QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) So, the Mariners pitching staff is awfully awful. They just traded for Miley from the Bosox, and are in on Adam Lind at 1b. They seem to be going for it. I wonder if we would be trade partners at all. Do they have anything interesting beside Alex Jackson, whom I'm guessing would be untouchable for them. I'll just say that their bullpen got much worse...that was not a good trade

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) Dan Hayes said the asking price is outrageous I'm sure it is. He doesnt suck and is signed for a few more years.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 12:08 AM) Examples? Just last year it was David Robertson. Pretty sure he was one of the first with the Shark rumors and Melky as well.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 12:03 AM) Nightengale simply said he thinks Upton ends up with the White Sox, but he didn't say they were talking at this time or anything really. He was just guessing where each FA ends up. He's pretty connected with the White Sox organization obviously from the news we've seen him break over the years. I doubt that it's just a guess based on zero evidence or no talk.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) So GreenSox is a confirmed troll right? Only explanation for some of these comments Yes. Jason Heyward,Adam Eaton and Todd Frazier arent good enough for the White Sox. Apparently Avi is though.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) How about actually rebuilding? What good does Frazier do? Keep these prospects and build that way. Every year the same discussion is brought up. Frazier doesn't make the Sox a playoff team in 2016. Signing a 3B over 30 who had a rough 2nd half combined with the fact that their best prospect- Fulmer- would have to be involved is a horrible idea. Where is the evidence that Fulmer would have to be involved? Frazier doesnt make the Sox a contender by himself but his 3.4 oWar and 4.6 last year is a really good start to putting them in that race. I highly doubt that the White Sox will fill 3rd base and then stop trying to upgrade at all other positions.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) Stay far away from 2 year rents with .660 2nd half OPS'. Will do nothing but set the Sox back. Enough damage was done last year with clowning like this. Is there anybody that you would actually want? I bet if Mike Trout hit the market you would find some way to talk yourself into thinking he isnt good enough.

Somehow I hope Hahn pulls a trade off for Frazier.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 04:32 PM) Without Greinke maybe they are thinking about going the Royals route of having an unhittable pen that shortens games. I think that's very likely

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) The problem with Heyward is that he's not a great hitter. That's a lot of money for excellent defense and solid, but not great, hitting. It's not "great" but it's very good.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 04:50 PM) When Samardzija really sucked, right after the All Star break, that had zero to do with bad defense. I'm going to steal this Allen because it's a really good point that's often missed. It's way easier to blame the Sox defense for his troubles than delving deeper into the overall issue. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) Something interesting about him - 3 of the past 4 seasons he's been worth exactly 2.7 fWAR. Only season he was worth any other number was 2014. If you just look at that, you think that's about what he might produce. But, in each of those same 4 seasons, Baseball-Reference's WAR has shown him underproducing fWAR by somewhere between 1 and 2.5 WAR. In other words, it's like UZR always blames the defense behind him and says he's doing fine, while DRS says he's doing much worse and blames him for the runs he gives up. But, outside of his time in Oakland, that's always been spent in parks you might call "Hitters parks", at least under the right wind conditions. That's actually very interesting. A conflict of stats on a players overall value. Fangraphs in their latest article mentions this just a tiny bit http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/giants-inve...-dave-righetti/ I think it's easy to point to the defense and go that's the main culprit. But there was so much going wrong at once that it couldnt possibly be the only answer. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) Playing in SF will help a whole lot if he can't get his K-rate back up because he'll give up hits but they won't leave the park. It'll be interesting to see where his location is next season. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) He really has only had 1 stellar season as a starting pitcher. I wouldn't want to owe him 90 million. That and you had some bad signs from him like SO/9 going down and hits+HRs going up. -

QUOTE (Saufley @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 12:44 PM) I don't and I couldn't care less about the cubs and what they do! Post this on their message board! Ok thanks for your input. Didnt realize that even if it's a good baseball move you cant post about it if it's about the Cubs. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) FWIW, this deal puts the Cubs close to $140m in commits next year. The highest opening day payroll they've had on record was $146m, back in 2010. With the stadium renovations/extra advertising and a big boost in shared revenues since then, plus a packed ballpark and some ticket price gradual increases, they probably still have substantial room to add next year. I'm assuming they are still having some dialogue with Shark and Jason Heyward. Not sure they can sign both but I dont expect them to be out of the loop on those guys.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 05:06 PM) That's not how it works any more. The Cubs would lose their 2nd round pick but the White Sox would still be in the compensatory round between 1 and 2. This deal could well make more sense if it's not the only QO'd FA they sign, where they're losing a couple picks and saying heck with it. Thanks. Good deal. I dont see why they shouldnt just try and load up a few of those free agents at this point. Probably should bring Fowler back.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 04:43 PM) Please let this mean Ross is his personal catcher also! He's the opposing teams favorite catcher. He's just awful at this stage. I think this is a decent signing even with the draft pick although that does dull it down a bit. So basically what we should probably want is Shark not to sign there right? Because we'll get their second round pick now.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) i am 1/2 hispanic and my english was horrible b/c of my spanish background. i had to learn english which i failed may times. the compositional part killed me and even till today. no matter how many times i took extra classes. i never got my degree in college b/c of that. it is hard, if you really do not know english or born into a family that is all english speaking. Your english is much better than some of the people born in this country especially my state.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) I keep seeing people reference this article and stating that the Sox are interested in Nova. It doesn't say that. It says nothing about the White Sox being interested. It says they were at one point. Then goes on to say that the Yanks will move him and nobody is really interested. San Diego fans on twitter seem to think he will be a Padre. Well that and it sounds like they really want to move Shields. Cant say that's a surprise.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Bids due in 15 mins, anyone have an idea how soon we should see the winner announced? I imagine it's going to take a day or so. Not sure if the weekend will effect anything. But there was something that just popped to mind about Hwang that I didnt share earlier. But did anybody read that tweet posted I think a week ago about a few GMs doubting that he could start? *edit*(Just saw it was posted 2 pages ago) That's a little concerning. How much money do you want to shell out on the posting fee plus the contract for what maybe be a backup?

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) Why are posters blocking each other? I don't get it. We are all fans of the same sports team. Shouldn't we all, ya know... get along and all that? I havent blocked anyone on here or anyone really in general for that matter. Unless you start receiving threats there's really no need.
