  1. I always enjoy the Cubs fans trade thoughts. Let's give them Baez or Castro for Rodon or Sale...yeah that'll work
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 10:55 PM) Hopefully aggressive in building the organization and bringing in young talent. Like we were in 2013. Hopefully not aggressive in bringing in"proven veterans" which failed miserably last year. Renteria did a good job with the Cubs. I'm fairly certain they dont want to repeat the strategy in 2013 again.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 10:40 PM) Bleh. Wasn't this guy the Cubs manager a year or two ago? He's better than Mark Parent by default, but it don't see how he's a huge improvement. It's just nice to have a guy with experience if/when our manager gets canned
  4. Good. Now let's get some players to get this team back to playing good ball.
  5. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 10:07 PM) Down to 8.. This is fun lol I would think if we weren't at least in the race somebody would have said something. It seems odd though It's a fun little start to the offseason. Kind of reminds me of the Tanaka bidding.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 10:03 PM) I think he is just saying since it's basically assumed its them because they have a hole at first (basically) and have Kang. I think its them or Astros (tried to sign Abreu and have that short porch in left. Could utilize his power there.). Yeah I was just rating our chances against theirs. If they didnt win then it becomes more interesting for us.
  7. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 8, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) Rays are out per Tompkin Well that didnt take long for me to be wrong
  8. "Manny would you take a 1 year deal to go along with our lame duck manager?"
  9. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 04:37 PM) Well his magic glasses fixed his hitting so it must be an injury. Next year we can get him a magic bat with magic batting gloves. I just cant wait for him to be off arbitration. Let some other team deal with this crap.
  10. Good...Flowers and Rick Hahn get to use the injury excuse for his poor batting again.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 11:06 AM) They will hire someone. It's a bench coach job. The next post blaming Mark Parent for the White Sox record will be the first. They apparently wanted Sandy, but he didn't want to be perceived as a guy after Robin's job. OK, now the Sox have to move to the next guy on their list. How far it goes, who knows, but I doubt anyone will take a few wins off their White Sox projection based on the next coach they hire. Again, I think a different 3rd base coach may make a bigger difference. I dont think anyone is arguing that. The point I'm making is I think they'll have to go pretty far down the list because of the position they have put themselves in with Robin's status.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) It's possible, maybe probable, but Sandy doesn't want to be that guy. If they hire a guy that would be an interim manager, that is one thing, but if 2 weeks after a slow start, Sandy signed a 3 year contract, in his mind, he would look like a snake. It's a real tough hire especially if the hire is a guy who is interviewing for managing jobs. It is one reason I think they might go for a 3rd base coach and let McEwing be the bench coach. Personally, I think this would effect the White Sox more. I haven't been so impressed with McEwing's decisions the last couple of years, although with the lack of offense, he probably had to be more aggressive than normal. I just think at times, it was being stupid not aggressive. Should we have no coaches? They are all threats to Robins job next year. It's not anyone's fault but Robin and the Front Office for the position they are in. Resign him to a 2 year deal, fire him or roll with him on the 1 year deal and the consequences it's already bringing.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) What it appears is Sandy was the choice to become the bench coach and probably the possible replacement. If Robin does get the axe, this decision doesn't preclude Sandy from being named the manager. If it is perceived that the new hire is Robin's potential or automatic replacement, there will be a million stories on it from the time he is hired, through spring training. It probably isn't good for Robin, the coaches, or the players. It's not going to help no matter who the bench coach is. That's the point. As long as Robin is on a 1 year deal with his job on the line there are going to be talks.
  14. I always find notion silly of being respectful to the guy that holds the position. Say he gets fired in May. You not going to consider the job a few months down the line after the season is over? Robin's going to be on the hot seat no matter what.
  15. http://espn.go.com/blog/mlb/post/_/id/9990...r-venturas-sake So many issues with having Robin still present as manager and here's one of them.
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 11:52 AM) Probably not alone but I don't want the Sox spending any money this offseason. Shed LaRoche even if you have to eat a lot of his contract and let young kids play for a year. Rotate DH between guys. Risking another bad FA contract is something I'm not really interested in. Good when are we trading Sale and Q? Since your strategy involves wasting time we might as well trade them.
  17. QUOTE (bear_brian @ Oct 31, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) Last winter I made a series of suggestions as to what the Sox should do. Among those was acquiring Kendry Morales. There were a group of regulars on this board who scoffed at that notion. He certainly would have been a major improvement over LaRoche, and would have given the lineup that much more flexibility as a switch hitter. Unfortunately, Hahn spent more money on LaRoche, and we now have to live for another year with that decision. The only possible silver lining is that LaRoche's hand was really sore all of last year, and he will bounce back this year. Probably because the last 2 seasons he was below replacement player value. I didnt expect him to turn into a positive producing player at this stage.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 10:43 PM) I'm just not sure the White Sox are going to be willing to shell out $10+ million for Fowler. Jackson's probably the better buy low candidate, like Rasmus last offseason. Better defender and younger. Also barely above replacement level. So he'll fit right in.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) In 2014 RV didn't get his extension until January. Yes yes we've gone over this. The point is he doesnt deserve one. But right now him sitting on a 1 year deal is probably leading good candidates away.
  20. QUOTE (beautox @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) Pass you can get similar if not better production for a fraction of the price with AJ and Soto without giving out a contract to an oft injured 30 year old catcher. Well this is a little more of a longer term solution than probably just a 1 year with AJ.
  21. Hahn seems to have a good relationship with Boras so I'm not worried about that part. But hopefully it doesnt go to 5 years.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) An OC has more of an effect on a team than a bench coach, but I do agree it does make the job less attractive. I was just using it as an example about the attractiveness of a job. Right now it probably doesnt look too great(like that job that I was referring to. Many people declined the job interview). I mean sure there's a pretty good chance that the bench coach is managing by May(if it doesnt go right). But he might not last after this year if the manager does get fired.
  23. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) Yup. It's a terrible strategy for this team. Just get rid of the f***ing guy. That or sign him to an extension. This is like Lovie I believe it was in 2009. Sitting on a 1 year deal and really Mike Martz was the only one who wanted the job as OC. Lovie if he didnt make the NFC Championship game was probably going to get fired.
