  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 08:00 PM) For that, no thanks. The 8 for 200 has no legs....the 6 for 160 probably does. The Cubs had to overpay to have a chance at getting him.
  2. I must say....never thought this team would get this far in the negotiations....impressive offseason.
  3. I've heard all sorts of price points for the Cubs today. 8 for 200 and now 6 for 160.
  4. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) Bernie Pleskoff ‏@BerniePleskoff 2m Formal offers for Masahiro Tanaka were submitted by #Yankees, #Dodgers, #Dbacks, #WhiteSox and #Cubs. Surprise for me-no #BlueJays. All offers were atleast 6 for 100
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 05:40 PM) According to Heyman, it probably will come right down to the deadline since each team was given the results of his physical. It may have been Rosenthal....but I read that Wednesday will probably be the danger zone. Just because there is very little time to get the details sorted out.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) He took a physical when he was in LA. Doesnt matter...once he agrees to a contract he has to do a full work up at the teams facilities.
  7. Keep in mind everyone that a deal may be announced in the next few days. He cant wait until the last minute because of travel, paper work and a physical.
  8. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 05:17 PM) Bunch of rumors claiming this or that, but Kenny was actually quoted that White Sox are very much in on Tanaka, until they hear 'no' . Thanks.....didnt see the Heyman thing a few pages ago. Really cool...that should make everyone a little more optimistic.
  9. What did I miss? Sorry I sleep during the day(night job)
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 07:53 PM) I hope not if it's 20 million per year or higher Just sort of interperting what Kenny was saying in that article...but it sure doesnt seem like the White Sox will be going all in money wise. They seem to be hoping that former Japanese players success plus the young team will make him comfortable here.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 07:45 PM) I would be stunned if it's not the Yanks, Dodgers or Cubs. Thing is, if the Cubs want to be dumb and give him something like 5/120....then I hope they get him. I think that is the only way the Cubs will sign him.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 07:41 PM) Lots of talk about the Cubs with Tanaka Follow Jayson StarkVerified account ‏@jaysonst In non-replay news, amazing how many owners in Ariz. were convinced #Cubs are ready to blow away the field & sign Tanaka to a monster deal. There is so much Tanaka rumors right now....I wouldnt be surprised to see any of the teams mentioned to be interested sign him at this point.
  13. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) Ooooooh, an industry source. That changes everything. So what number is going to wear for us? Will he be at Soxfest? A random industry source has this inside scoop apparently, someone tell the jersey manufacturers. Where did I say it changes everything? We've been in the running for him. Some people were questioning whether we still were at this point. Stop being dramatic and read the article next time. Kenny breaks silence of the situation http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/willia...masahiro-tanaka
  14. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 06:21 PM) The only "proof" they had of that was that the Sox publicly announced meeting with Tanaka. This article could have been written any day in the past week, there is nothing new in it. Just trying to temper enthusiasm over a sensationalized NY Post headline. "According to an industry source, both the Cubs and White Sox are still seriously in the hunt for the Japanese right-hander, along with the Yankees and Dodgers." Maybe reading the article next time would help. They were clearly just reiterating that we met them already just catch people up.
  15. I was going to post the new Cubs report that they are major players....but the person reporting it seems questionable

  17. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 09:39 PM) I'm thinking he will be an Angel or Dodger. This is just too far fetched. Mike DiGiovanna ‏@MikeDiGiovanna 1h GM Jerry Dipoto confirms that #Angels were not one of the teams that met with Japanese RHP Masahiro Tanaka in LA last week. https://twitter.com/MikeDiGiovanna
  18. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 05:20 PM) ^ Garza is a KW move. I don't think Hahn brings a flyball pitcher to the cell for that kind of money after putting together a full bullpen of groundballers It really makes very little sense to bring up Garza. Tanaka is a different story. Young pitcher who could be next to Sale for years and drastically improve the team. Garza doesnt drastically improve the team and we know what he is.
  19. Why the hell would we sign Matt Garza? He did so well in that launching pad in Texas lets put him in another one.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 07:17 PM) This feels like how the Bulls pitched to LeBron. We declined to comment until after The Decision, and it turns out he pretty much knew where he was going before the meetings ("I decided this morning" was B.S.). Except the part where many thought that LeBron was going to the Heat in the first place and nobody really knows where Tanaka might go. Plus the situation for both at the time isnt remotely close. But other than that yeah its similar.
  21. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) Translation: Tanaka will not sign with us. Sounds like they are doing what every team is doing. Exploring what his interests are.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 05:41 PM) I lived through the Jack Morris era, and I never remember thinking Hall of Fame pitcher. I think he makes the Hall of Really Good. He did a lot of really good things, but I never saw him as a dominant or top notch pitcher. I was really little when he was pitching so I never got to see him first hand. But the numbers plus that seems to be the testimony of plenty of people support why he shouldnt have been voted in. Hall of Very Good isnt a bad thing....but everytime I say that people act like I'm saying he is one of the worst players to play the game.
  23. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) I gotcha. I do and don't agree with that though. I understand the flaws of the stat, but I also do believe that there are some players out there who just know how to win. I mean, if guy consistently gets 15+ wins a season, he's probably more good than lucky. But yeah, I do understand your point and W shouldn't be the sole basis for argument unless you are above that 300 number. If a guy has worse numbers than the number 2 pitchers behind him combined over his career what does that tell you?
  24. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) He also had 169 complete games, three world series rings (1 times world series MVP), started three all-star games, was the undisputed ace on most of his teams, something like 500 consecutive starts without missing a turn into the rotation, all while spending the majority of his time pitching in a hitters paradise. Thats all fine and dandy...he still shouldnt have made it and thankfully he didnt
  25. Great news....glad I got to see this day....also glad I dont have to hear about Jack Morris anymore
