QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 06:40 PM) Axelrod or Johnson? Well both...but it sounds like itll be a competition between the two
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 06:33 PM) One of the worst starters in the AL. Hopefully he's out of the rotation as soon as E. Johnson is healthy. Hahn mentioned him actually as part of our potential rotation for next year with Santiago,Peavy and Sale
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 06:29 PM) Which also could be for show. If he is set on dealing Peavy, letting the other teams know isn't going to help the bids. Might as well let them know you consider him a big part of the future, it will at least cut down on some bulls*** conversations. Very well could be

Axelrod still throwing meatballs....what a surprise

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 06:19 PM) But Hahn is right, build around the pitching. Sale, Santiago, Quintana and Danks in his last 4 starts all have done excellent this year. They just haven't gotten any run support. They haven't even hit arbitration yet and are on and will be on team friendly contracts. The Sox trade a few pieces this year like Peavy, Rios, Alexei, Thornton, Crain, Lindstrom and get some valuable prospects back and the team can be relevant again in a couple years. Then with that money, go after some free agent bats in the upcoming off seasons. 100 percent agree....he did however mention Peavy going forward btw.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 05:43 PM) So when I posed this suggestion to the board two weeks ago, specifically if you are willing to trade Sale for the right offer, 70% of the board voted no. I like how people are more open to the idea right now, just proves I am not crazy with my idea. Thats not what I got out of reading this thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) And unless you do a Sale for Stanton type of trade, you are taking a major step back until those guys are maybe able to step up to their potential. That could be a year, that could be never. Plus what GM is going to give you what you actually want to make this work?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) if you do it, you send the message that you are rebuilding for the long term, and not the short term, and you have to live with those consequences as a White Sox organization that is still marred by the history of White Flag. There is probably a 5 percent chance that happens.
-
Even Ken told me that they probably wont go the full rebuild. As for Olt....do people pay attention to how he is playing? I saw him play just the other week.
-
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) Texas might, they have the $$$ to cover up the lack of prospects. You need a future #1 in the deal plus another A player. I would want to decimate Texas's farm for Sale...thats what it would take for me.
-
I replied to Ken and told him that this is all under this assumption that the Sox want to do a full rebuild. To which I told him that probably wont happen. He replied yep. So this is all imagination land at this point. Not going to happen.

Alex f***ing Rios

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 09:04 PM) Hey all you playoff contenders out there. This RF who went 5-5 with 2 SBs is very available. Best offer wins. Best offer who isnt giving us a bunch of mediocre prospects wins

Good lord Rios

Rios is the only player to have 4 hits off Verlander

Well that slump is over

QUOTE (staxx @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 07:58 PM) Rios 2-2 Please have a few good weeks so we can get something useful for your ass. Did he do something bad to your family?

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 04:05 PM) Next year is pretty much a lost cause as well. There just is not enough offensive talent on this team to compete. Rios is not a leader, he is a good player but is very influenced by his environment and would definitely benefit from being a guy outside of the spotlight. PK is gone at the end of the year. Just too many holes to fill and not enough players to fill them. I think they should move Peavy, Santiago, Rios, Crain, Reed, De Aza and Beckham if they can get an adequate return. Re-sign Gavin to an incentive laden contract as he sits next year, sign Corey Hart to a 1 year deal, and try out guys on the mound to see what you have. In 2015 you start spending to fill holes on offense and by 2016 the farm should be producing position player talent to go with the pitching that will still be in place.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 03:54 PM) Of course it's an assumption, no can actually predict the future. But anytime you see an exceptional performance, whether very good or very bad, it is most likely that future performance will regress toward average. If the team isn't a piece or two away, how do you expect to add to it in the offseason such that it has the chance to win and increase attendance in 2014? Sorry but I hate absolute statements in sports and that sounded like one of them. I never said any of the last statement. All I said was trading Rios for marginal prospects which I think is probably what is being offered is pointless. I would rather keep him. As for money...we are going to be getting some relief very soon. So that really isnt an excuse.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 03:42 PM) I guess I just don't see the team as a piece or two away. The pitching will regress, too. While the hitting/defense shouldn't be THIS bad, the pitching shouldn't be THIS good. We've gotten a ton out of Axelrod, for example. And you still don't have anyone that can get on base. I think Konerko retires. You've still got a lot of money tied up in Dunn that you can't re-allocate, an Rios too if we keep him. If we had $40-50m to add to payroll, I'd agree, but I guess we just don't agree on what this group is capable of. Also, I'm not talking about tearing it down completely, I'm just talking about punting 2014. All that good pitching will still be here in 2015, with the exception of Peavy (who could still be here but I'd like to trade as well). I think that Rios' return would have more 2015 value than Rios, AND you get to reallocate his salary. Assumption and no one ever said this team was a piece or two away.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 03:37 PM) Im not saying we are competent. I'm saying I fully expect the goal will be to get competent. Trading Rios fir a middle level prospect will shock me in that regard. Agreed....I think a mid level plus another low A ball prospect is all we can expect. If that ends up being the case I hope he stays.
