  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) Detroit sucks ass just as much as anyone else in this division. They have Verlander and Cabrera and 23 levels of suck. They probably have the best offense in the Central. .300 hitter after .300 hitter. Pitching, however, is another story.
  2. Are the Sox the only team in baseball that uses a roster spot on an infield coach?
  3. Honestly, how can anyone with any knowledge of baseball still bat Dunn 4th? Is it any wonder why Konerko has been so average for the past month? The bat consistently gets taken out of his hands before the game even begins by his own damn manager.
  4. How did Wills not get the play by play job after Rooney left (still breaks my heart that Rooney left, but at least he went out with style)?
  5. Hard to believe that Matsui has already spent 8 years in America.
  6. Wasn't Dave Wills the pre and post game guy during the 05 season?
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 08:29 PM) You don't honestly think Guillen wants to play Dunn do you? Dunn is the anti-Guillen player. Bad defensively, strikes out a ton, and can't run. Dunn, Rios, and Peavy are clearly Kenny guys. Isn't Rios on the team because Cora (thus including Ozzie by default) loves him and coached him the past? Eh, I'd go 50-50 on Rios and Peavy. Dunn for the most part is a KW guy.
  8. Anyone else think that whats holding back this team from making any changes is a power struggle between KW and Oz?
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 08:50 PM) He is an employee of the same station that these dopes are. By that logic there is no difference between the two. Don't the White Sox get complete say over who does the pre and post game shows?
  10. Just a quick lineup/roster thought that has probably been discussed: Hopefully Dunn goes on the DL, Morel gets sent down (to get regular AB's although I'm not sold on him being any thing more than a career backup), and we see Viciedo and De Aza come up, with Rios going full time on the bench. Pierre, Ramirez, Konerko, Quentin, Pierzynski, Viciedo, Teahen, Gordon, De Aza/Lillibridge That lineup still is nothing special, but would hopefully be a great breath of fresh air compared to what we are used to seeing.
  11. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 09:45 AM) Have you forgotten about Lillibridge's sleepwalking play in CF in Colorado? Yes, the same Lillibridge who is the offensive juggernaut Ozzie used to replace Dunn in the Tuesday lineup against the KC lefty. No, but the point I was trying to make is that as bad as the outfield defense is, I dont think it has cost as many games as it probably should have. I'm going just off my head here, but I'd say outfield D has cost us at least 5 games for sure, which is still terrible, but not as terrible as some of the previous outfields we have seen in Chicago.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 09:37 AM) I think it actually has...it just doesn't show up as unearned runs. I think Rios cost us a few runs with a play he should have made the week before the AS break, for example. OF's don't get credited for errors on broken plays nearly as often as IF's do. I agree, but I still think we've gotten lucky with the outfield D. It also helps that the Cell might have the easiest outfield the play in all of the majors.
  13. Of all the things wrong with this team, is there really a heated argument over Crain's workload? Do the Sox need another reliable righty reliever? Definitely, but that is at least no. 6 or 7 on a long list of needs. And Crain hasn't been overused. Oz has actually done a great job of not overusing certain guys in the bullpen this year, and I'll give him credit for that, as much as it pains me to see Brian Bruney out there in the 7th or 8th in a tied or close ball game.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 09:28 AM) You know the amazing thing? Carlos's defense has probably been the most reliable this year out of any of our OF's not named Brent Lillibridge. UZR actually likes Carlos's RF defense this year and thinks he's been slightly above average, for example. I'm actually surprised that outside of Pierre's dropped balls early on, the outfield defense hasn't come back to bite this team in the ass more often.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) I don't know why we'd want to dump Quentin. He actually can hit sometimes. I think it would be in the best interest to trade Quentin now while he still has value, whether we are competing or not. I mentioned this in a different thread a while back, but outside of the injury concerns and terribly streaky offensive output, his defense leaves a lot to be desired and he's not getting any younger or cheaper. If we can get a good young pitcher back in return, like the speculated Beachy trade, at least I think, is a slam dunk for the Sox.
  16. God Quentin is bad in RF. And this Tigers offense is pretty freaking good. If they can get some pitching and not choke, they got a chance to be really scary.
  17. And after having a good swing, Dunn looks completely lost again with 2 pitiful swings.
  18. No. Whether we are buyers or sellers, our top two needs are CF and 3B.
  19. That was possibly Dunn's best swing all season.
  20. He still needs to change his approach. Most of his hits have been on pitches he can handle, like low breaking stuff and low fastballs. He still has a huge hole in his swing that leads him vulnerable to any fastballs thrown at the belt or higher.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 09:25 PM) f*** FOX even when they show the White Sox. It's always a wretched broadcast. I can live with the wild thing, he wasn't terrible the other weekend.
  22. I don't see how Brandon Allen and Dayan Viciedo are even remotely comparable. No disrespect to Brandon Allen, he could become a decent player. But he wishes he had half the talent Viciedo has.
  23. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) Did it with style. But screw him. He' a dick and a selfish player. ARod was a better SS This makes no sense. Jeter has always been a team first player, never proved to be a distraction to the team, and has the 5 rings and clutch moments to back it up. Rodriguez, on the other hand has provided several distractions throughout his career, especially with the Yankees, and I have no respect for any man who cheats on his wife and their two children, especially with a stripper, or even worse, Madonna.
  24. Wouldn't Jeter refusing the ball back be similar to the fan offering him the ball? I really don't think there would have been a wrong choice for the fan. Whether if he wanted to sell it; if he wanted to keep it on his mantle (would you have to pay taxes on the ball?); or if he wanted to give it back to Jeter; I don't think anyone should object to any of those. Now, if he was a Red Sox fan and decided to burn the ball, that might not fly with the public. Me, personally, I'd give the ball back to Jeter and be happy without getting a penny in return. Whether you hate him or love, there is no denying that he epitomizes what a baseball player should be like, and to me as a fan growing up and watching him, he deserves to have this ball sitting on his mantle and eventually passing it down to his children (if he decides to ever have any).
  25. One of the most competitive derbies I've seen recently between Gonzalez and Cano. It was fun to watch. On the other hand, the celebrity softball game is as lame as ever.
