We're up there looking dead red fastball while Wacha is throwing his change up right down the middle.
Wacha could face Eloy 1,000 times in that situation before throwing him a middle-middle fastball. I don't know why he wasn't sitting change.
-
Eloy should have known Wacha wasn't going to challenge him with a fastball

WHAT A SLIDE BY TA WOW

*insert Steve Stone's line about TA scoring when he gets on base to start an inning*

Obviously they could but would you rather go spend money on a 2B or a SP?
4 SP's are under contract for next year and Kopech is going to take a spot. If they can dump Keuchel's contract on someone, by all means, go for it. But I think the rotation for next year is looking set already.

Gio looks dominant tonight

I think they pick up Kimbrel option and trade him
That seems possible to me as well, but then I think that money would be available to spend elsewhere. That would bring one of the SS on a 1 year deal like Semien signed in play.

Do you think everyone in the lineup should be all-star caliber? Would rather spend the money on pitching, Hernandez is fine hitting 8th or 9th on this team
I think they can do better than a 2 WAR guy at 2B, yeah.

I’ll believe Kimbrel is back when I see it. Seems very unlikely to me.
I don't want to derail the thread, and I don't want to think about trading Madrigal for 3 months of a rental. That is too depressing for me to contemplate right now.
If Kimbrel isn't here then I definitely think that salary slot would be available, but maybe it's wishful thinking.

Doubt they have payroll flexibility to go that high
Thank god they'll be giving ~32M to 2 60 inning relievers, then

Decline option, sign Escobar
I prefer Escobar, but that seems like a lateral move. Maybe one of the SS would be willing to sign a 1 year pillow contract like Semien did with the Jays.

Hernandez isn't good enough to be an every day guy on a team with aspirations the Sox have. 2B will still be a position to upgrade in the winter.

Just got home How is there 7 hits and only 1 run in 3 innings?
7 hits and 1 run doesn't cut it.
Hitters have started swinging before the ball leaves Wachas hand with RISP
-
Failing to come through with RISP in a pitching matchup this lopsided is just brutal

Yoan can't make contact with a guy on 3rd and less than 2 outs and Vaughn can't hit with RISP and 2 outs. This is literally where our rallies go to die in the lineup.
Vaughn's #s with 2 outs and RISP is one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen. In those situations his approach seems to completely erode, I don't get it.

Please elevate the ball here Yoan

This is the best version of Robert we've seen at the plate

Wacha doesn't have to throw the change anywhere close and Sox hitters can't stop flailing at it

Time will tell.
Is the guy who (amongst position players) lead the team in WAR in 2018, 2019, and is 2nd in 2021 good?

Dude was literally about to lose his rotation spot and we're trying to help him keep it.
It's almost impossible to start for the Rays and have an ERA close to 6 considering everything they do to put pitchers in a spot to be successful

Gordon Beckham. The Yoan Moncada of the 2010s.
Moncada is actually a very good player
-
Another issue with Beckham in the booth is he constantly says things that are illogical or factually incorrect.
What he's saying about using feel for defensive positioning is asinine.
-
Sox hitters are reacting to Wacha like they've never seen a changeup before

I think I'd maybe consider Carlos Perez or Ti'Quan Forbes over Blake Rutherford or Hunter Schryver at this point.
Perez over Rutherford is a no-brainer, to me. There's an obvious path for Perez to stick as a big league that I don't see for Rutherford.
