How many times have we seen that type of infield single happen to Bummer

Tim was flyinggggggg down the line, great start to the inning

Especially given the upcoming schedule.
Everyone cites the division lead, but the Sox are like 1.5 games out of the #1 seed. You can't be giving games away just so Keuchel feels better about himself.

Why is Jake lamb here over Gavin sheets? Don't get it
Sheets is in Charlotte right now.

I think you give the vet a chance to finish his inning. Didn’t work. What’s the big deal?
Keuchel turns the average hitter he sees 3rd time through into peak Jose Abreu. The Sox have the deepest bullpen in baseball. There's no reason to push your luck with Keuchel in most situations he's out there.

Yeah how dare people call for the pitcher to be pulled at 100 pitch mark when he’s a massive liability 3rd time through the order
Hitters are only hitting .316/.387/.495 of Keuchel 3rd time through. You can't expect a Hall of Famer to know that!

Here for the piping hot TLR-disease taeks.
When there's a glaring very obvious in the moment mistake, rightfully so

will tony finally learn that Keuchel is a 5 inning pitcher? or will he continue to roll the dice and get burned
no chance but at least it won't be an issue in the playoffs
hopefully

What is it with Tony leaving starters in who are obviously struggling with one elite setup man and TWO ELITE CLOSERS
That's without even including Tepera, Bummer, or Crochet. No team has close to this many resources in their bullpen.

You can't expect a Hall of Fame manager to understand times through the order splits

Sano getting another look here at Keuchel is a bit scary

Can't wait for the automated strike zone

Every batted ball that inning was crushed. Jax is very fortunate not to have allowed any runs there

Feels like blown calls hurt Vaughn as much or more than any hitter in this lineup

Yoan can't stop hitting ~100 MPH line drives right at people

Abreu just loves hitting in the month of August, huh

It seems like a lot of people here want a bad inning just to say “I told you so…”
Which is an odd mentality for a fan.
I think everyone here just wants the Sox to win.

If you don't overextend him, Keuchel is still a perfectly fine twice through the order/5 inning SP.
Ask him for anything beyond that and it gets very dicey.
-
I really hope Tony doesn't push his luck and let Keuchel start the 6th.

Playoffs are a long way away but there is no way with a straight face anyone can say Keuchle should start over Lynn-Rodon-Giolito-Cease at this point. Just zero chance.
Even if he turns things around, for me at least, there's nothing he can do to surpass Cease as the playoff #4. Maybe he can steal a bullpen role but he's not someone whose stuff is going to play up in relief.

I know its popular to dump on Keuchel (and he certainly deserves it so far tonight) but this is actually really unusual. This season, first time through the order DK has given up a .285 wOBA against, which is 61st in the MLB (fantastic for a 4th/5th starter). The problem is that after that he is giving up a .356 wOBA against (which is 115th, so actually around what you would expect from a 4/5).
We'll see how the rest of the season goes, but based on the season so far I would be perfectly happy to let DK go once through the order to start a playoff game.
There's no reason for him to even be a once through the order guy with Cease as the #4 and an ultra deep bullpen. For a lot of teams, though, yes I think Keuchel would still have a postseason role but the Sox aren't one of them.

Not cool for the CSN broadcast to not mention the article on Fangraphs that covered this exact topic on Vaughn.
