  1. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 11, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) Woj report: Sounds like they will be big spenders Whitman set quite a precedent with Lovie Smith. Might as well spend the money and get it right the first time. I would think Cuonzo Martin, maybe. As far as off the grid candidates, I'd take a flyer on Becky Hammon.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) Missing the following steps... - Shingo flames out - Mark Buehrle unretires - Shotguns beer - Becomes WS closer -Pitches like he might have accidentally left the stove on and has to get back ASAP to make sure his house doesn't burn down -2 hour baseball games
  3. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 09:31 PM) Why the f*** would we trade Burdi? "We're all out...again"
  4. Good deal! Hopefully some Goose Island, too.
  5. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) These two pretty much go hand and hand, dont they? They certainly should, so I wonder if a guy like Melky should be moved.
  6. It's been clear for a while: Hahn is unwilling to accelerate a rebuild by accepting lower offers for key assets. The question I have is whether or not he should move some assets that appear to be at maximum value.
  7. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) If you call him up at the end of May you're giving him an extra 4 months of MLB experienced that does nothing to his service time. If he is playing well there is no point in leaving him down in AAA once he crosses the date to give him an extra year service time. Agreed, but at the same time it's probably better to make sure he's playing really well in AAA to avoid stunting his development (the fear if he comes up to the majors too quickly)
  8. Sucks to have to be so patient, but unless he owns AAA, I think May could be a bit optimistic.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 10:31 PM) Yeah...the fact that is all he drafted is why he isn't here (along with Trestman). Pace's draft last year (one year in) looks fantastic. We'll see what this next draft brings. I wonder if Bears look at Poe / Pryor? Personally, I feel the same way. It's hard that FA starts before the draft. It seems like GMs want to function the opposite way by building through the draft and filling in the holes with free agents.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 10:22 PM) He did draft Jeffrey and Kyle Long. Is that it? That's a pretty s***ty run. Between Floyd and Howard, Pace beat Emery in one draft. Edit: I forgot Whitehair. People forget what a terrible GM Emery was.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 07:16 PM) I f***ing want Phil Emery back. Score one for the irrational. Didn't he sign Cutler and fail to draft anyone?
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 05:55 PM) Geeze...how could we not have worked out something with Alshon. Judging by the fact that Alshon turned down a longer term deal from the Vikings and Alshon isn't work $14 million per, it's not surprising they didn't want to overpay him.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 05:21 PM) wow, was out for 3 hours and worst fears of this offseason confirmed. If you were to run all the possibilities of this offseason in January how many had you with Bears losing Jeffrey for nothing, getting no top cornerback, and signing Mike Glennon as a starter Short of Myles Garrett suddenly falling to 3, this is the worst case scenario. Worse case scenario involved franchising Alshon and having him spend half the season on the bench. That's what Alshon does.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) Michael David Smith‏Verified account @MichaelDavSmith 1h1 hour ago The Browns had the most picks in the 2016 draft and now have the most picks in both the 2017 and the 2018 drafts. If the Browns manage to Browns this up, it would appear as though they are beyond saving.
  15. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) There really never is. Guys are FA's for a reason. But when you dont knock every every draft pick out of the park you have to over pay for guys in FA to fill in the gaps that you failed with. Bears have too many holes to fill them with free agents. No need to overspend.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) So what are we gonna do with all this cap space...? You roll it over. It's part of the game. What you cannot do if you're Chicago is overpay for what's left of free agency. And the cheap bulls*** is lazy research. If there was $40 million worth of high value talent, the Bears would spend ALL the cap space. There isn't.
  17. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 03:52 PM) 40 million cap space unused and no #1 receiver............McCaskey's and cheap will start back up soon. Get your PSL money sent in asap. I'm no Bears fan, but I get them not wanting to pay Jeffery franchise money.
  18. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 03:45 PM) NFL Network just had a segment with Jeffrey's gone, they went through Bears WR's and do not know what management is thinking about with that group. They're thinking Alshon would have been too expensive and even for one year he's not worth $14 million. He's not Dez Bryant and he's even less durable.
  19. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) Ah ok. Not sure there is a guy like that in college bball. I wouldn't mind Bryce Drew. He did a decent job at Valpo. Roger Powell was or still is his assistant. Maybe you can get Scott to come instead to get away from the impending Baylor implosion. edit: i guess Monty Williams fits the criteria of out of the box. NBA lifer who has never coached at the college level or recruited. Hoiberg, despite his recent college success, would be that type of coach. A guy no one really thinks is available for college at the moment. I mean, I just want the s***show to stop.
  20. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) Not likely. The program is in such s***ty state, and you're going to have better programs like Indiana competing for the same candidates. I'd love to throw a guy like Greg Marshall a dump truck's worth of money, but that's not happening. I liked the Hoiberg idea, but I think it's a year too early for that. I should have said "out of the box" a la Lovie Smith in football.
  21. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) When there's a coaching change, the player will almost always get released from the NLOI. I would expect that to happen here. That makes sense. Maybe Whitman can make an "out of the park" hire.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) That is what I would be worried about. I know Tilman waivered for a while. If Groce is out, does he reopen his recruiting process? I could see it. Pretty sure it's not that simple. It's not a verbal commitment. He signed. Can he just go back on a NLOI? Yeah, just verified. The questions is whether or not Illinois would let him out, which is unclear.
  23. If Stan can accommodate DeBrincat in the NHL without moving him as a piece to get under the cap, I will be thrilled.
  24. We're going to have an awesome pick next draft.
