  1. QUOTE (Soha @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 09:15 AM) I want to dump players as much as anyone, to secure going on the 'Beer Run'. That said, I'm not so sure trading Robertson really makes this team worse. He is probably the only guy I'd prefer they hold on to until the deadline. See if he can rebuild his value back up. We have no use for him, though...
  2. I hate owner/JR threads. RIP to what most seem to think was a great man.
  3. Caught the Stars for the first time this season. They are the definition of fun-bad. That offense and pace is nuts, but the defense and goaltending is just pathetic.
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 08:54 PM) Is that an A4 or A6? I still really like the Q3, but lately I've been drooling over getting a 2 door sporty convertible. 100% stupid for Chicago but dammit I want one 2017 A4 2.0T quattro. There is an A5 sport Cabriolet, but yeah, in Chicago that's a little silly. The Quattro is excellent and the handling is nuts. This one makes 255 hp and it's on the Torsen quattro setup.
  5. Funzies. Picked up one of these last week.
  6. 63 - 99 A number of meathead fans here will doubt the process of rebuilding, but it's still the right thing to do.
  7. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) "He would have never won any Super Bowls without Brady" You could say that with just about every coach. Wouldn't have won without their hall of fame QB. 51 Super Bowl winners. 41 have been won with hall of fame quarterbacks or will be hall of fame quarterbacks. 42 if you consider Joe Flacco a hall of famer. The others had historically good defenses. Bears, Bucs, Giants, Raiders, Redskins. Joe Flacco shouldn't be allowed near the hall of fame.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) But are extra innings really the problem (particularly with non-baseball fans)? In a given season, about 10% of the games go into extra innings. Of those, the vast majority only need an extra inning or two to complete. I would argue that the non-baseball fan is going to think that baseball is long whether it goes 9 innings or 11. A handful of games each year turn into marathons of 14-18 innings. But that’s so few as to be statistically insignificant, really. To me, this move from the MLB is a solution in search of a problem. Extra innings aren’t the problem. Pace of play is a problem. I think you hit the nail on the head in the major leagues. Extra inning games are not a problem. Let it be in the minors. It's fine.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) Do what you want in the minors, but for the major leagues? No. I'd be more for ties after 12 innings than starting a guy on 2nd base. That's how I feel, too. In fact, I would go as far as saying do this everywhere except the majors. There's no need to have MLB prospects playing extra innings.
  10. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/02/08/rep...-minor-leagues/ I don't hate this in the minor leagues. The value of minor league victories are so small, they're not really worth playing 18 innings.
  11. Martin Havlat retires. Tallon gets a lot of credit for moving away from him, because he was never as valuable again as he was in 2009.
  12. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 02:39 AM) CTE, Dementia, along with depression and other things. But the main issue seems to be dementia. Showed that he has to walk around with a fanny pack that contains his ID, wallet, keys, and phone in case he gets lost and forgets what he's doing.`It was a pretty sad interview. Is there a test for CTE that can be run on living subjects?
  13. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Feb 4, 2017 -> 09:28 PM) Man, the Stars' defense and goaltending are horrendous. It's always hilarious how much credit Jim Nill gets for being average at his job. He gets a ton of credit for the Seguin trade, but his inability to draft or add defense is wasting years of two solid players in Benn and Seguin.
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 3, 2017 -> 08:46 PM) Its not just the clubs that think this way. Its also many of the fans. Just look at the posts on this one. If the team doesn't have a chance to win the world series they should tank the season for better draft picks. I wouldn't go as far as saying "tanking is necessary". I would go as far as saying good drafting and system building are more critical now than ever before, and teams are less and less likely to let their home grown assets leave. As a result, the quality of free agents is bad, teams overpay bad free agents, and they lose. I mean this isn't as bad as the NBA, where if you don't have a generational talent, you're not winning championships, but being bad at least prevents management from trading away young talent for a short fix.
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) Seems like the kind of segment that would work better only responding to emails so you can filter through some of the terrible ones. I assume they would call screen it, but maybe not? QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) Is "Who ya crappin?" still a segment? I always used to catch it on my drive home when I used to commute in my car from work but I haven't listened to the Score at around the time they would do that segment since like early May of last year. A week before Terry retired, B&B explained that Who ya crappin was ending because the world had kind of moved passed it.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) When the going gets tough, schedule the Coyotes to make it all better. And then commit a ton of delay of game penalties to let them back in. This game should not be close.
  17. I don't mind the little I have heard from Parkins, but that low rent "can't do it" stuff isn't any good. B&B used to do "Ask us Anything" about once a year, but questions were like "What cars do you guys drive?"
  18. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) I have always felt like this was going to be at least a three year process to begin to become competitive again. Even if Moncada busts out next season, there is not going to be the supporting cast around him to help him out. I also think that Rodon is going to be traded as part of the rebuild process, possibly as early as next winter. There is little to no chance of an extension with him as a Boras client and with the way that I believe the window of contention is going to shape up, he will enter free agency right when the Sox are in the prime of the window of contention with the group they are assembling. I know people feel this team is going to be right in the thick of things as early as next year with the pitching core they are assembling, but the offense is going to be dreadful, probably worse than dreadful. This team is going to lose at least two of its three most productive offensive players after this season, and will be in firm contention for the #1 overall pick in 2019. I think 2020 is where this team starts being competitive again as Collins, Moncada, Basabe, and hopefully some of the acquisitions from the trades of Rodon and Q are ready to contribute in addition to top draft picks from 2017 and 2018. With hopefully an abundance of SP depth, Hahn can make some deals to fill in the holes in the roster that they aren't able to fill through the draft or in one of the rotation deals. You make an interesting point about Rodon, but the Sox have the luxury of "wait and see" when it comes to his development.
  19. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) Thanks for that, clears up my curiosity. Seems to fall in line with the mentality of the artists who started Tidal. From what I recall reading a while back, artists like Madonna, Jack White, Metallica etc started tidal because their music was streamed for free on Spotify so the artists want to eliminate that would be middle man in Spotify. I do remember some complaints about the music quality and iirc, is why Tidal has Flac files available for streaming. Eh, I like my way much better than streaming services. I get my music, add it to my collection and play anything I want add free and commercial free. Nothing but the music. As far as I can tell, FLAC is CD quality. Jay-Z and Beyonce are majority owners with minority owners including Jack White, Madonna, Win Butler and his wife (Arcade Fire), and others. Jay-Z bought the company for $60 million and it looked like it was doomed to fail, but now Sprint has bought a third of it for $200 million. I like it and the exclusives are great, but the curation isn't great.
  20. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 02:43 PM) Kudos the White Sox. I have a 17 year-old nephew battling lymphoma at Lurie's Childrens Hospital and he got a visit the other day from Renteria, Moncada and Giolito. The kid's a Cubs fan but the visit meant the world to him and genuinely lifted his spirits at a time when he can't keep any food down and is battling the effects of chemo. I've seen these pics on twitter and never given them much thought, even dismissed them as publicity stunts. I now know they're much more than that. Already love these new guys! This made my day. Cheers
  21. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 09:09 AM) Agreed, Rizzo is a bad example because he is still young and signed long term Frazier should be dealt at some point before the trade deadline, as should Melky Abreu likely will stick around unless we get a really nice package for him We want to have maximum payroll flexibility moving forward during the rebuild so that we are ready to make a splash once we are ready to contend again in a few seasons The Abreu/Moncada friendship is no small thing, either. Anything is possible, but you want Moncada to be comfortable when he's with the big league club. The right deal is the right deal, but I would move Frazier first.
  22. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 08:47 AM) So if I buy the mlb package I wont get sox games? Being that im in nrw york? I'm sure us out of market people are unaffected by this.
  23. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 09:06 AM) Well I hope he starts to get a couple more shortstop prospects and then later figure out who plays short, second and third. Agreed. There are no permanent fixtures on this team. I like TA, but I'm not going to buy a jersey of anyone on the team as currently constructed because anything is possible.
  24. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 08:29 AM) How many players on the White Sox are in Law's top 100? Does Callis have a top 100? Anyone concerned that the White Sox still don't have many positional players who are top prospects? I guess 2 in the top 100 isn't horrible, but are there others in the pipeline? Yes and no. Once you start a rebuild, you can draft and develop positional talent. Having too many pitcher is fine, because you can move them for what they're missing. At this point in an early rebuild, Hahn's job is to maximize value in the form of talent, regardless of what it is. When we were going for it every year, I was one of the people who said "The Sox can't draft and develop positional talent", but now they are going to have a number of better opportunities to do so and they have done quite a bit to revamp their organization (highlighted by a solid draft).
