  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 07:31 AM) This is why that line of research as well as the soviet research on using electrical modalities to increase strength have been invalidated. Also, that training method kopech is using is designed to increase pitch velocity. Many believe that attempting to throw too hard to often (me included) is what is leading to the increased frequency of UCL issues. While this training is effective in increasing velocity, it may not be a good thing, especially in the eyes of Cooper who doesn't think velocity is everything. Besides Kopech can throw 100 already. Trying to increase velocity from there is just an ego going crazy and will not lead to anything good. Well said. I can't imagine Coop will let that keep going. His arm is an asset for the White Sox.
  2. That plan sets our franchise back another half decade. I get what you're doing, but that's not happening.
  3. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 10:05 PM) There's being a front office apologist and then there's defending the Shields trade. Even Rick Hahn's dog knew that was a bad trade the instant they made it, let alone now.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 05:55 PM) Around the 16 minute mark, is Bernstein suggesting the Sox will move when JR dies or that someone else will now be in charge? http://download.podcast.play.it/media/d0/d...XP__0000000k3Dk The implication is that when Jerry passes, the team will be sold. I think the TV money will keep the White Sox in Chicago long term.
  5. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 03:44 PM) No everyone wants all the Sox players to have massive breakout seasons (do not deny this, the Predict Thy Numbers threads are insane), keep all the veterans, remain watchable but still pick #1 overall in 2018 and have a big rebuild with blue chip prospects everywhere. The definition of having your cake and eating it too. I see the Sox options as (a) rebuild or (b) dont rebuild. I dont harbor this childlike (also reflected in these pathetic """insults""") expectation that the Sox, especially with this FO, can pull off 10 different things at once. Cant have both. What are you talking about? We want Abreu, Frazier, et al to have good seasons so they make for good deadline deals.
  6. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) Well good to see the FO office sycophants are out in full force. They've done so much to earn your trust over the years I'm sure you'll be rewarded! Let's be real, this direction is enough to know someone in the front office watches baseball and knows what isn't working. The Eaton trade was a great one by Hahn.
  7. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) My favorite prank over the years was when Phillies trade Kyle Kendrick for Kobayashi the hot dog eater. If we could get similar value in return, I call that a win. We couldn't trade Con te Giolito for an empty bag of peanuts. He's a sell low right now.
  8. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) Can we trade you as part of the rebuild? Salary dump.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 12:25 PM) But why sell low on these guys? I don't get your logic here. I'm actually glad they're not dumping these guys for salary relief. I'm not sure Frazier or Abreu ever get a ton higher. I can see holding onto Jose until the deadline in hopes he has a better start to the season. I'd move Frazier and Robertson if the deal is right.
  10. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 06:48 PM) Finally saw Suicide Squad, albeit on a plane. MAN that movie was bad... Everything about that was a mistake. Every decision they made was the wrong one. And Jared Leto was garbage. Margo Robbie was okay, but no one could have made that dialog convincing. Edit: The only thing I think they got right were the Batman scenes. That's it. To hell with the rest of it.
  11. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) More Minoso numbers: Most times on base 1951-1960 Richie Ashburn 2771 Minoso. 2572 Mantle. 2550
  12. Todd Frazier will perform better than last year, but likely for much of the year on another team.
  13. Not a feel good game by any stretch of the imagination. Crawford was Blackhawks MVP before he went down and they just aren't the same team when he struggles.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 09:15 AM) I only saw Arrival and Manchester. I slacked off last year because of work. How is "Drive it Like you Stole it" not nominated for best song? I always find the Song and Score categories a little ridiculous. Gustavo Santaolalla has two Oscars for original score. John Williams only has five. That's borderline criminal. Edit: Didn't realize "Fiddler on the Roof" was original. For some reason, I thought it was adapted.
  15. So, I am on a free trial of Tidal, and I finally around to listening to Lemonade from Beyonce. I always wrote her off, but some of the stuff on this is incredible. "Don't Hurt Yourself" is a masterpiece.
  16. Jedi is singular or plural, so it doesn't tell us a ton. The red color of the logo is interesting.
  17. There's so little here now that Eaton is gone. I'm glad Rick pantsed the Nationals.
  18. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) So far the half booty tear down has garnered us the top prospect in all of baseball, and three of the top ten right handed pitching prospects. This effort has far exceeded the half tushy efforts they made to try and get to the playoffs the past few years. Give him a break. His user name is Brian Anderson. He's accustomed to failure.
  19. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 08:47 AM) As in, we are still only in the beginning stages of this rebuild, and we already have the #1 prospect in all of baseball, and three of the top RHP prospects. Cause for genuine excitement I should think across the fan base, with attendance being the least of concerns at this point. Yes sir. That's a great start.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) This is going to be a strange rebuild. I know this board has people who love prospects and the process of rebuilding, but the reality is that very few people care about stuff like that until the team actually starts winning. At major league prices I would imagine attendance will be at an all time low the next few seasons. This is such a non-argument. Attendance is terrible now. We have literally nothing to lose by rebuilding. Houston had horrible attendance mid-rebuild in 2013, but they have shot up the list and added like 750,000 tickets by 2016. This is a rebuild. The future in a rebuild is younger and more exciting. That's it.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 09:13 PM) 10 playoff games, two close games and one of those was a s*** show. It might just be luck of the draw but injuries are taking way too much of a toll IMO. There's just so much mediocrity and the quality of games is just bad overall.
  22. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 10:30 PM) No way you can say Q is a top 10 pitcher in MLB unless you are just an all out slave to WAR. Nothing against him, but he's not that guy. Top 20 is a bit of a different story, I think I could come up with 20 pitchers I'd rather have in 2017 tbh. Translated: "Unless you buy the best understood value statistic in baseball, you can't possibly think Q is a top ten pitcher" That makes zero sense. He's the 10th best player in baseball but the most popular and reasonable value metric. Or are you a pitching wins sheep?
  23. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) Why is Hahn excused for settling on Sale (a superior player to Q btw) deal that was more realistic when he won't do the same for Quintana? It's been said already, but Moncada is a total stud prospect. It's also worth noting Q's control and Sale's attitude as factors in why Q plays with pinstripes and Sale doesn't.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) The MLB wouldn't have to throw money at educating their own players, they could spend it on lobbying for stricter drunk driving laws or enforcement in DR. They could also just donate money to create more hospitals with helicopters for air evacuations to cut down deaths from injuries. If MLB believes deaths like these are hurting their product, no different than lobbying by insurance industries and alcohol industries in US. It's crazy, especially on a board where we talk about team money like it's pennies, but you nailed it on the head. The MLB has so much money, this would be an admirable charity.
