  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:03 PM) I'm honestly gonna be sadder to see Q go. God speed, Flying Serpent. The whole thing has a "peeling off a bandage" type feel. I wish they could just move everybody and rebuild already, but Rick is wise to work the field to get the best returns. From a fan standpoint, I agree it's pretty sad. Then I think about how bad some of these "win now" teams have been.
  2. Loved Sale on the mound, but his locker room antics and the whole Duck Dynasty attitude was, at best, unlikeable.
  3. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:57 PM) We aren't there yet. This is a great start, and all indications is this is just the first domino to fall. BUT........lets see what else happens. If Sale is the only major piece moved this winter, the direction will still be muddy. Rick made it sound like this would be a slow rebuild and our guys are in no hurry to move players. They're waiting for the right packages.
  4. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:37 PM) Understandable, what's to like about a CF with good defense and a .845 OPS? I don't know what it is about it. Maybe it's the fact he winds up in trade rumors. He's a decent player (6ish WAR in 2 seasons)
  5. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) One of my favorite players. So happy for him that he's back to playing really well and scoring. Mine, too. I honestly thought he was done last season.
  6. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 2m2 minutes ago Aroldis Chapman may get his $100 million deal after all. One team says he has offer of $92 million. That's insane. The one year we have two aces to move, the value of a closer skyrockets.
  7. It's so refreshing to be Mr. Positive here, now. Look, Moncada is going to give you some great moments. He's the best prospect in baseball. Can he flop? Sure. But there's a good chance he's going to be a very good piece for years to come.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) Yeah, go ahead and turn that crown back in, we might need it. I'll be honest, I'm really happy with the White Sox doing this. It simply indicates the FO knows the current tack was unacceptable.
  9. QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:57 PM) Another name that could be targeted is Joc Pederson. Keep a look out for him. That's old regime stuff. Not a JP fan.
  10. Hossa's performance has been astounding this season.
  11. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:35 PM) We got a few good prospects but this deal falls far short of what a good GM could get for Sale. They better be sure Moncada is a future all-star or this is one of the worst trades in franchise history. And I'm the board troll.
  12. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:14 PM) It definitely leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I wanted nothing more than to see Sale win in the playoffs or win his Cy Young in a White Sox uniform. Never thought I'd see the day the Sox trade the best starting pitcher to ever wear the uniform in order to fix years of ineptitude by the front office. Hears hoping Moncada and Kopech hit their ceilings. Bring on the firesale. The bold is your first problem. To hell with that moron winning a Cy Young in Chicago. All that matters is this We needed a lot more than Chris Sale for that.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:10 PM) What is Moncada's jersey number going to be with the Sox? Press conference scheduled, or is he out of the country? You would think with season ticket renewals going out that they'd try to milk Moncada for all he's worth, along with Anderson and Rodon. Yeah, and after 2018, they'll have a much better idea where they at in the rebuilding process. Serious players...not for Harper and Machado, but the next tier is certainly a possibility. I would assume he won't have a number for a long time if he's not playing this year. At least we won't know for sure until he gets called up.
  14. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:08 PM) The big free agent class is two years from now. Even if we shoot for 2020 instead of 2019 it could still make sense to be players in that class because any we sign will likely be here for several years. Should be interesting what happens with contracts by then. Before this CBA, I would expect some insane $ numbers.
  15. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:03 PM) If holding him out for two months, even if ready, keeps us from the playoffs this year, then apparently Rick is some sort of wizard. No worries. Moncada won't be the difference between the playoffs or not this season.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:54 PM) We will be at the absolute bottom of our rebuild or close to it in terms of fan support. I would say no pretty clearly on that idea, at least at the mega star level. At least Rick has been clear that this IS a rebuild. That's something Sox fans have seen on the other side of town. If we're going to be bad, let's be bad and rebuild, not be bad and go for it every year.
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:00 PM) Thank God. There's no reason not to extend to the 7th year of guaranteed control. Hell, even if he was "ready" (like Byrant) you hold him out the extra two months that's just how you play it from the club's long term perspective. Yeah, it's something like May 15th. A little too inside baseball for me.
  18. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:35 PM) It's better to trade a player one year early, than one year too late The White Sox could not really risk him getting injured or losing any trade value at the start of a rebuild Now for other domino's to fall in Melky, Frazier, Abreu, Gonzalez, etc. I would put Quintana on the block and see what offers you get for him And it's better to trade a guy and be bad than to be bad and watch him walk, which would almost certainly have happened without a rebuild.
  19. Per Rick, Moncada will start in AAA. Not a ready product. Really good stuff from him.
  20. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) To be completely honest, I always envisioned the Sox getting a bigger package in return if they ever traded Sale. I guess it was unrealistic. Moncada is fantastic, it's just that this feels a little top heavy. I thought there would be more depth. That doesn't make this a bad trade, just not the "blow your socks off" kind. They wanted more at the trade deadline, but they were never going to get it. This seems like about as good as they can do, especially considering Moncada's price to Boston.
  21. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) Kopech is just as likely to blow out his arm as Sale is. I have not seen any proof or correlation of innings pitched to injuries. Not even worth discussing unless there is new evidence or research brought forward. We now have a lot less money in Kopech.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) I'd say it is equally reasonable to worry about Moncada disappointing. Both things are possible. Pitchers get hurt and #1 prospects disappoint. In the end, that does nothing to change the calculus of this deal either way. Depends how you define "disappoint". He could be disappointing but still be a solid player for multiple years. That's his upside. If it's Garcia-type upside and Moncada winds up sucking, everyone is fired.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) And the award for biggest jump to conclusions goes to...
  24. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) Somehow posts like these are not ridiculous but posts saying that Moncada is completely unproven and far from a sure thing are? In this day and age, it is more than reasonable to think a pitcher is going to get hurt. So many of them do.
