  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) Playing it at every single sporting event, every single day is a slap in the face to the meaning of the song. It gets routine and loses some of its meaning after awhile. That's the crux of it. We as a country need to learn the difference between Patriotism and Nationalism. Patriotism is significantly more meaningful. Playing a song during which a crowd in made to stand is Nationalism. A standing ovation for an honored veteran is Patriotism. Taking a knee in protest is patriotism. Revealing that your government of the people, by the people, and for the people is trampling on the rights of its people is patriotism. Besides, the National Anthem has no real meaning. It's a crap stanza that ends in a question mark with a tune from Great Britain. American, The Beautiful should be the national anthem anyway.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) This continues to be true: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-na...m=.a7b7cb975f0b Well, the more voters you can suppress, the more idiot conservatives can get into office. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) Related, the scotus rejected north Carolinas voter restriction appeal. Really looking forward to a fully liberal scotus. It's critical, especially as the GOP won't let go of the religious right garbage?
  3. I really hate that the military pays the NFL all this money to make this happen. The NFL wouldn't even play the anthem if the military didn't pay them. The whole thing is a farce and nationalism at its finest. Sitting down during the national anthem is more patriotic than standing during it. DoD paid $53 million of taxpayers' money to pro sports for military tributes, report says
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) I am VERY excited to see how he does, it's going to be a tough road to 6 wins but they have a shot. Next year is going to be BRUTAL. What about it? I'm not being confrontational, I just haven't followed Illinois football since the Tim Beckman scandal. Came back when they fired Cubit.
  5. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 05:33 PM) I'm surprised there are so many ranked vs. ranked the first week. It should be a good weekend of football. Yeah, it definitely works out where week one is awesome and week two blows. Good thing the NFL ramps up in NCAA week 2
  6. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 05:02 PM) I hate to throw in the towel for next year already but I think we all know deep down they are going to do the same type of roster moves that were made last year. Part of me doesn't really want to bother with next season...but I will. Right now i'm just so football mode.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 08:30 AM) Wrigley Field is fine once you are in your seat. Everything else sucks about it though. Limited beer options, the food is bad, there are people everywhere and nowhere to walk, minimal ATM machines, it takes forever to get there. I usually go once a year because my wife is a Pirates fan but other than that I wouldn't take free tickets. I don't hate the Cubs either. I'm just a White Sox fan that isn't real interested in the whole Wrigley Field thing. Right, and I understand that, but I can't really recommend a Sox game when the baseball product is really garbage, the environment is bad (empty stadium). It's a great park to get around and it has a lot more character than it used to have and the food is still amazing, but I can't recommend that horrible product. I wish I could.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 07:13 AM) Yup, that's something I came to realize over the past 10-15 years. Despite all the stereotypes of Wrigley, the baseball experience is so much better at Wrigley than at the Cell. Fans just pay more attention to the game and are more into the big moments. And it's not just because they are good now, I've seen it during the down years too. I get questions here all the time about going to Chicago and I have to mention attending a Cubs game. The fact is, when the White Sox are competitive, the White Sox game is a cultural experience. The regional nature of the White Sox fanbase (when they play well) is really quite charming. However, the current Cubs experience is just incredible for tourists who are fans of the game. The neighborhood, the park, the quality of the play (a major change) are just such a great image for Chicago culture.
  9. QUOTE (staxx @ Aug 28, 2016 -> 03:30 PM) Lincoln Way East seems like a team to beat with the schools combining. Roster over 100 Since 2002 has Lincoln-Way Central ever beaten Lincoln-Way East? I think the answer is no.
  10. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 07:03 AM) I'm surprised you or Deadpool haven't taken the bets floated your way for the Cubs winning the World Series. Aren't they basically a lock to win it all with how dominant they are? One guy even gave you 4:1 odds. Baseball is too random. I'll watch some of the playoffs, but I'm in full football mode now.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) If I was an owner, I'd be the first to have corporate logo's all over my teams jerseys too. Why, cause it would give me the most resources to put the best and most competitive team on the field, period, which ultimately should be my ultimate goal. This deal does nothing to hinder that ability (and if anything, gives additional resources and will ensure a very nice ballpark experience as that is money that can continue to go into keeping the park nice). I feel same way about jersey sponsors. Look at these guys. They don't seem to mind their sponsors all over their jersey.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 07:45 AM) Why does the name matter? How many people will decide not to go to the park because it's named Guaranteed Rate Field? Yeah, it's a stupid name, but so is US Cellular Field or the "Cell", especially considering you can't even get US Cellular in Chicago. Besides, is this the White Sox call or the actual people who own the stadiums call? This is my feeling as well. Overwhelmingly, the response has been 1) What a terrible name 2) What a terrible sponsor US Cellular is a bad sponsor and a bad name as well. Just keep the team in Chicago and you can name it "Kohler Stadium" or "The John" for all I care.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) Knee replacement doesn't make sense for him to be off air though. Boers has the DSN line connected in his home and does many B&B shows from his house. He could just continue doing this if it wasn't something more serious? I haven't had a knee replacement, but I can imagine the recovery could be pretty painful for someone in their 60s.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 05:23 PM) Caption: “Celebrating Cubs Opening Day on our roof.” Courtesy: Guaranteed Rate http://reviews.greatplacetowork.com/guaranteed-rate This post is pointless. Guaranteed Rate just inked this deal.
  15. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 04:31 PM) Obviously I was being sarcastic but I mean at a certain point as a fan you just say "come the f*** on man". As others have said this isn't even first or second most embarrassing thing that has happened this year. Thanks to Chris Sale and Adam Laroche this is only the 3rd most stupid thing. I can only express my frustrations via a message board. I feel like we missed an opportunity with Great Clips Stadium.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) Isn't this what happens when your teams consistently suck, you attendance sucks and your TV ratings suck? US Cellular was a bad sponsor, too.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) To be fair, it's not even in the top two of most embarrassing days to be a Sox fan this season No. I mean it is an awful name, but I can't blame a team for wanting to sell their park's naming rights.
  18. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) Globe Life Stadium All of them named after a product of some sort are all bad except Cincinnati Petco, Progressive, Safeco, Wrigley, Citi, Tropicana, Target, Rogers, PNC, Miller, Coors, Comerica, Citizens, Chase, Busch and AT & T They are all the same so what the hell difference does it make. They would be named something if the money was right. Also, I do not think the White Sox have anything to do with this as it is not their stadium as they lease it from the state of Illinois. I also financed through them and they were awesome. David Hochberg has got to be pissed. Lol. Those names aren't bad. They're the norm. Companies sponsor stadiums. The White Sox just got the crappiest name with an oddly appropriate logo.
  19. The down arrow on the Guaranteed Rate logo is perfect for this organization.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 09:01 PM) By my count he'd be the 5th age 22 shortstop to hit 4 WAR in the past year. You're right. They grow on trees. Where is ours? Oh yeah, that's right. We don't have one.
  21. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 07:31 PM) Guys you build around and not trade. Gonazales was doing fine until injury. You have 3 starters and two of them among the best in baseball. And a completely empty lineup and farm system. Sorry, the White Sox don't have the luxury of keeping two guys with that with how far they are up s*** creek.
  22. Addison Russell looks like he could be a 4 WAR player at age 22. Wow.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 01:26 AM) Are the Cubs a lock to win the WS? Would it be one of the biggest upsets in history for them not to make the WS? IMHO, the MLB playoffs are so tight there really aren't "upsets". There's no fluff in the playoffs in baseball.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2016 -> 06:34 AM) Altuve, Betts and Donaldson would disagree...Machado and Arenado would have their backers, as well. Statistically this season it's Trout, Altuve, Bryant.
