When your team has been bad for essentially 8 years, there's not a lot of room for positivity, I'm sorry I'm not sorry. A number of us have said this for a while: This modus operandi isn't going to work. If we can't develop our own players, we're sunk. It's no longer pessimism, it's just being realistic.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) When Lawrie is back. Put Saladino in the field and DH Abreu. I quit watching that clown fest. I'll get interested when they start moving players out Agreed. Give me young and bad over this.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) I get the feeling Hahn wants to but KW never wants to not compete.. KW always wants to compete. He caught lightning in a bottle in 2005 and now assumes the way to win is overpay talent other teams don't want. It's not that he lacks TWTW, it's that he's completely misguided.

QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) If the Sox trade Sale I might have to devise some crazy physics experiment to check if i'm still in the same reality as I was before the trade. If the Sox trade Sale, it means Hahn and Williams have finally entered the same reality we're in.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) For Q no question IMO. I'd be beyond stunned if they moved Sale. If they did, it'd be great for us because that means we're getting someone like Correa. Agreed. The more I think about it, I'm okay with moving Q but a little bit hesitant on Sale. I'm glad we're hearing a lot about selling-type moves.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 08:22 PM) It's crazy now. We just can't hear the conversations. There's a really good chance Hahn gets an offer he really likes for either Sale or Q. These contenders are all chomping at the bit

Things could get so crazy as the deadline approaches.

QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) Move Q, Sale gave the Sox a massive discount cause he wants to play here. Sale probably would do the same when he becomes a free agent. Not a chance. He gave us a discount and we rewarded him with a terrible lineup and minimal run support. He's gone when his contract is up.
-
A package including Correa for Sale would be an unreal grab for the White Sox. That's why it won't happen.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 05:32 PM) Needs a separate thread (vs. being burried in existing massive catch-all thread). Dodgers clearly have a lot of potential prospects and even some major league pieces they could offer (you'd have to assume that the starting price tag would be Urias plus one of their young, but streaky outfielders, along with at least one frontline prospect. I'm not sure who I would want to move. Sale has less control left, but is a better pitcher than Q.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 05:44 PM) According to T.R. Sullivan of mlb.com, the Rangers are "making a serious effort" to land Sale. The Sox are going to have a number of options if they're serious about moving Sale and going in a new direction.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) Are they prepared to give up Moancada, Swihart, Benintendi, and Bogaerts? *That is officially the craziest "fleecing" deal I've ever typed out. That's like Playstation. Make it happen KennyRick -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 03:06 PM) Hahn has always said they would listen to offers for any of their players. Has he ever said the organization was "mired in mediocrity"? -

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) Jon Heyman @JonHeyman The #WhiteSox are at least listening on offers for Sale and Quintana, with the #RedSox among many interested parties That's really good news at least. -

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) So Hahn took a job where KW would use him as a puppet? I would assume it involved a pretty big raise. -

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) KW is Hahn's boss. Hahn has wanted to rebuild and was overridden by KW and JR. I don't love Hahn, but I would be for canning Williams and letting Hahn facilitate the rebuild. -

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) That's a narrative man, if Hahn let KW dictate his moves as a GM he's an even worse GM than I thought. This is a different discussion, but you do realize KW is higher on the totem pole than Rick, right? -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:13 AM) sure it does. Do you think the sox would be in contention if Abreu was hitting his norms and Petricka and Putnam were pitching to their norms? Also, I didn't say to keep Sale and Quintana, I said you need to keep one. They need the guy at the top. I'm all for trading one, preferably quintana. No. The whole team has an OBP problem. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) This is actually a great example. Anyone expect the Sox to lay down $150 million for a player to take them to the next level after a rebuild? Yeah, me neither. The Sox have not been in a situation where they're spending bargain basement money on their players. I don't know what they would do if they were young, good and a starter away from contention. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:05 AM) The cubs for all of their young players still depend on two veterans for success, Arrieta and Lester. One was a pure luck minor deal, the other a significant FA signing of well over 100 million dollars. why depend on luck or over spending when the Sox currently have that piece? The Cubs are the opposite of us. They have two pitchers they bought and a team loaded with young talent at key positions. We have a garbage team we bought and home grown pitchers. The problem is our team sucks and we would be better off being bad and drafting better talent. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) The fact that you couldn't look at it logically doesn't matter either. There is no logic that states this current method is working and there's really no good way to keep Sale and Q and magically turn our team into contenders. Time to wake up. Attendance and interest is at an all-time low. There's no excuse not to start over. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) So you want these people to trade their established players for people they think will be good one day? Yes, because that's what MLB teams do now. You're either contending or you're rebuilding. Not sure why this is so hard for you. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) Yep, either give Fulmer 10 starts in the majors until he hits his season innings limit or send him to AAA. I think the FO is trying to replicate the Sale strategy. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) i think they were. The players have all just had career norm or down years all together. The only player playing above their norm is Melky. Any team that wins the world series needs to have a few players having career years and very few below thier career averages. I liked the plan with adding frazier and Lawrie among others. With their pitching it should have been a really good team. Unfortunately, Abreu tanked, they lost two bullpen pieces to injury and no one on the offense is having that career year. A good plan that didn't work. I have no problem with selling but they need to keep that one piece that is the most difficult to find....The Ace. The fact that you were fooled didn't make this team a contender. Sorry. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) And trade the prospects you got for Sale for an ace that makes double his salary? Prospects bust. You can't give all your talent away or you wind up really sorry. Like the Astros and the Cubs. They seem awfully sorry.
