QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) Soler free agent Fowler trade free agent Heyward free agent Bryant draft Russell trade Zobrist trade Rizzo trade Montero trade Lester free agent Lackey free agent Hendricks trade Arrieta trade Hammel free agent Rondon trade Truth hurts. Not much imput from the developmental staff. Right, because only players drafted by a team gets "imput" from the development staff.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 02:54 PM) No, not really. Theo deserves credit for lots of things, most notably all the trade robberies they've pulled off. The role of drafting in their success is overstated. Except that whole "best player" thing. And back on topic, I would be completely satisfied with a Houston Astros type rebuild. Yeah, it would suck, but unlike this garbage team, we would know the direction we're trying to go.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 02:49 PM) Bryant was the only guy on the Cubs roster 2 days ago the amazing Theo drafted. Schwarber looks like a good pick, but he didn't rebuild the team through the draft. He signed a bunch of free agents and made some great trades. So my point stands. Dick Allen being Dick Allen.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) Can we DFA you? Hopefully WSI will claim you. ALEXEI!!!! !NO!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) From the opening day roster, John Danks, Jerry Sands, and now Mat Latos are off of the 25 man roster. JB Shuck was already sent down once. My guess from playing patterns is that Jimmy Rollins is next, unless there is a trade that changes the roster differently. Who is going to DH?

So bad. Thanks for catching lightning in a bottle for a month.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 02:22 PM) This is exactly correct. The Cubs have actually done a pretty poor job developing their players aside from Bryant and have covered it up by dropping an ubsurd amount of money on guys. The Sox would have much less of a margin for error on their rebuild, but they would also being selling some of the most valuable contracts in the game with Q, Sale and Eaton and would accrue a massive amount of talent in return. "The Cubs have done a pretty poor job developing their players over the last three to four years except their best player and the guy that carried their team for much of last season. And Javier Baez." Come on guys. You're smarter than this. How many more Cubs draft picks have to be good before you give them credit for actual drafting and developing players?

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 12:56 PM) Isn't this thread kind of the whole Sox board in general? I don't think there is one positive thread! haha. I tried -- and then they went like 2-9. I now reside in the hate crowd. What on the field would lead you to show any meaningful positivity? Sale and Quintana are good. We still have struggled of late when they pitched.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) the last half of 2013 and all of 2014, the Sox were rebuilding and there was a ton of complaining around here. Everyone still holds the record during that time against the manager. I don't think many who are calling for a rebuild truly understand what a rebuild entails. A lot of us are aware of what it is. The problem is, the Cubs are a best case scenario when it comes to rebuilding. They drafted well and were smart with international players. The White Sox have shown consistently that they are completely incapable of drafting positional talent and I would guess their rebuild process would be closer to the Astros' rebuild than to the Cubs' rebuild.

We're like bad baseball community college! Every bad baseball player can come in!

Only one of the options is a real baseball broadcast. Jason and Stone is a real baseball broadcast. Hawk has overstayed his welcome.

Nationals (Scherzer) @ Sox (Shields)

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 10:45 PM) The Sox are going to start winning games again. They aren't going to play the next 27 games at 7-20. The thing that's going to happen is they'll play well enough to make some trades that won't make a difference when they ultimately lose to division teams the final 33 games of the season. Your post 2005 Chicago White Sox Win or die trying. Tons of dying. -
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 09:55 PM) Oh, I'm quite serious. You derail one thread after another with your baseless accusations about "others" - not yourself - but "others" about what you perceive to be misery, angst, and bitterness. You are obsessed with the topic. Meanwhile, the irony of all ironies is that you are the one exhibiting misery, angst, and bitterness with all of your constant harping on this made-up nonsense. You pick fights with all the wrong people. What's worse is you never make much sense.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) Do they roll out 3 outfielders for the whole game? If you're not top three, you're not in and therefore no closer than anyone else who is not in.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) I did say sniffing not in fwiw He's not really sniffing. He's pretty far behind the other guys.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) How the f*** is Jason Heyward sniffing an all star game? He's not. He won't have the votes and he definitely won't make it on merit.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) This is the truth. Ventura doesn't matter. "The buck stops" here is a phrase JR has never heard of I guess. Not necessarily. For Hahn and KW to admit Robin was a mistake and replace him with a better manager is the most sensible thing IMHO. To leave Robin in charge and let this thing get driven into the ground is quitting on the season.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 05:14 PM) Looking forward to your next list of failed White Sox players past... It would be easier to list the successes

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) Expansion draft doesn't help for this year at least. Right. On one hand, the cap trouble and shorter contracts help the Blackhawks. On the other, there is little chance of cap relief from the draft. Second City Hockey estimates the Hawks situation is That's great for keeping the core together for sure. Or this diagram I found on twitter covers all of our assumptions
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 10:23 AM) From what I was reading yesterday, most of the core have no move clauses in their contracts which would prevent them from going in the expansion draft. That may be why they are looking to trade Teuvo now, because he may likely have to go in the expansion draft anyway. Not all of them. If I had to guess, Crawford, Hossa could be exposed. Nothing is official, but it sounds like we could know about expansion very soon. The idea of exposing Crawford sucks. He was actually the Blackhawks' MVP. NHL still up in the air on NMCs, but most seem to think they won't be selectable. Kind of sucks.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 10:02 AM) If the cap drops, like is being talked about, the team is pretty much capped out, and one of the core has to go. That's why I think the the Blackhawks will likely expose at least one core player in the expansion draft. The problem remains, though, a guy like Seabrook or Hossa can still hose the Blackhawks by retiring early even from another franchise.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) how about Lester? Take away him as well and I don't think they are where they are without those two. Don't get me wrong they have built a really good team and look like they are going to have a good run. But don't fool yourself that it is built solely on drafting good players and "doing it the right way" by not buying players. Right. I think the takeaway from the article is yes, Epstein is a legendary organization builder, but he makes his fair share of mistakes, especially when the team is okay throwing serious money at players. I sometimes wonder if Theo would be a better GM in a more cost controlled smaller market in the mold of Beane in Oakland.
