  1. Just makes me more annoyed we can't find any fielding talent. Before I get flamed, I meant we can't draft fielding talent.
  2. Nomar Mazara (age 21) just hit a 491 footer at Globe Life Park. Holy crap.
  3. When you consider it from a heat factor, there was a summer a few years back where it was over 100 for 100 days in a row. If that's going to be the weather, I get why the Rangers would want an indoor facility. It's a lot of money, but it almost has to be done. That's a ridiculous number of scorching games where weather drives fans away from the ballpark. I love GLP as well.
  4. QUOTE (Tex @ May 25, 2016 -> 08:39 AM) Which tosses all the intangibles out the window. There is no such thing as momentum, confidence, etc. We play the games with humans, not computer models. Humans bring emotion and character to whatever they do. Do the players get up just a little more knowing who is on the mound? Do they feel like they owe it to some pitchers? While I agree wins are not THE best measure of a pitcher, but spend some time coaching and you see how much emotion can change things. What does a pitching win measure well? Nothing. Human or otherwise, a pitching win is meaningless.
  5. QUOTE (Tex @ May 25, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) It seemed like more of a comment on how the Cubs get all the press and the Sox are shuffled to second team status. Which is true for most of the country. Here in Texas, despite having AL teams, people think of the Cubs when they think Chicago baseball. Same in more areas of the country. Because so many people in Texas are Cubs fans. They could watch the Cubs on the WGN superstation for much of their lives. People who have never even been to Chicago in Texas cheer for the Cubs.
  6. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ May 25, 2016 -> 07:35 AM) I am not a huge fan of ESPN as an entity, but there are plenty of good writers who work for ESPN.com, people. You have to cut through the fat, though. And there's a ton of fat.
  7. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ May 25, 2016 -> 08:08 AM) This is silly. Nobody is saying that wins aren't important. They're obviously the point of the game. Pitcher wins, on the other hand, are not the same thing as wins, and are not terribly important. The rule is convoluted and arbitrary. Right, the only win that matters is a team win. Period. A better stat is "The White Sox are __ and __ when Chris Sale starts", but that's not the same as a pitching win. Pitching wins don't matter.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 24, 2016 -> 11:24 PM) Would absolutely laugh if Golden State loses to OKC. All of the media and fans were convinced they were unstoppable, better than 72-10 Bulls, dynasty, etc. I could see GS blowing out the Thunder in Oakland in game 5, but I can't imagine them going into OKC and winning at this point.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 24, 2016 -> 10:14 PM) Spanky, I'm not sure that's called for, lol... They're still in 1st by 1 1/2 games. I don't think anyone expected to run away with the AL Central. The lead we're squandering doesn't make me feel confident about flipping the other way, either. I get the feeling if we go down into second or third, we won't make it back out.
  10. QUOTE (harkness @ May 24, 2016 -> 11:21 PM) There is no way ventura can survive much more of this bad play in the division? Right? If the White Sox blow this and Ventura isn't fired, I'm not sure Robin could do anything to get fired.
  11. QUOTE (SpankyEaton @ May 24, 2016 -> 10:25 PM) What happened to the days when they could get players like Dye, Konerko, Ordonez, Lee and Thomas who could jack one? I hope they draft a hitter this year and scout better for position players. I'm tired of all of the failures, lots of other teams get it right, why can't the Sox? The Sox have been unable to draft a position player for a decade. They have tried, but they have failed. I'm convinced it is a scouting problem. They can draft pitchers, but that's really it.
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ May 24, 2016 -> 10:48 PM) I just hope OKC doesn't get worn out after beating the two best teams in the league them lose to Cavs. Would be a shame. So far, I'm not thinking they're worn out. Should they win game 5, this was a huge let down of a series and OKC should be fine in the finals.
  13. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 24, 2016 -> 09:43 PM) Just curious is anyone following some other teams this year on MLBTV? I watch Rangers, Nats, Angels. White Sox are still my jam, though. But there's no position player on our team I'd rather have over Mazara
  14. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 24, 2016 -> 07:59 PM) Ha, I got the volume muted at work who is in the booth? A comedian. Not very funny, but he's better at play by play than Hawk
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 24, 2016 -> 05:46 PM) I wonder if there are any articles in the financial news about whether those media companies are satisfied with their new broadcast rights deals? We know about Houston and LA already. Ewok wrote that Angels ratings were way down despite the presence of Trout and Pujols (only one playoff appearance since 2009, which was a very brief one in 2014). The Phillies have a new deal, and they're rebuilding. The Rangers one should be okay because they got back to the playoffs and brought Darvish and Hamels into the fold and have an exciting offense. Seattle's doing much better since the beginning of last, and looks to be improving on that this season. Royals, Tigers, Indians and Twins all inside the Top 15, fwiw. Obviously smaller markets than Chicago. http://www.forbes.com/sites/maurybrown/201...2/#6bdc21e4c04e But if there’s a team that seems to not be able to gain traction of any sort, it is the Chicago White Sox. Last year they ranked last in ratings at this time, and they do so again this year. The difference is that they have dropped 42 percent to a 0.8 average rating one week leading up to the All-Star Game. The White Sox currently rank 27th out of 30 in attendance and are last in the AL Central with a 41-45 record, 11 games out of first. Yeah, but the Chicago market isn't the White Sox market. The White Sox are the smaller team in the metropolis. Now that the Cubs are good, there's even less reason to watch the Sox if you're a neutral party.
  16. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ May 24, 2016 -> 05:56 PM) After this start, that'd be horrid. Probably 20, but again, who knows. He could win 17 and it wouldn't be his fault. Pitching wins are meaningless.
  17. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 24, 2016 -> 04:20 PM) Soccer does not seem right. That is 90 minuets and the stoppage for fouls and injury is not 50% of the time. Every time the keeper has the ball, play stops. Every time the ball goes out of bounds, play stops (corners and goal kicks even longer). There's a ton of stopping in soccer and even more inaction.
  18. I feel a lot better. Still a lot of problems, but this was a step in the right direction.
  19. QUOTE (Dunt @ May 24, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) I wonder how long they roll with the 13 man pitching staff. That bench is ugly thin now. Can Robin still play third? I also am weary of our bench situation.
  20. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ May 24, 2016 -> 01:53 PM) Biggest mistake here is opening an ESPN.com article. The TMZ of sports. Pretty much. There's no analysis on ESPN anymore. Just manufactured debate or G rated "controversy". If I could just get the live action and 30 for 30, I would be satisfied.
  21. QUOTE (Tex @ May 24, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) It makes the argument that baseball is too slow seem weak and unnecessary. Innings are not a finite length and the pace is still not fast enough. The NFL commercials are ridiculous, but once the clock runs, it runs. NFL games are super short.
