  1. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 20, 2016 -> 10:50 AM) Lol - "the internet truly is a wonderful place", indeed! Here we have the White Sox who have made one and very brief postseason appearance in the last decade, are on the heels of three straight brutal seasons, and who have now been in first place for nearly a third of the season, and you say there's nothing for a White Sox announcer to get excited about. What a point of view. How quickly we forget the frailty of winning baseball.
  2. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ May 19, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) If the Sox want fans in the seats at a high rate they need a lot of we brought W's to the park night. Pretty much. If the Sox were able to establish a dynasty, they could theoretically change their situation long term.
  3. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 19, 2016 -> 11:20 PM) I can't believe how much I miss Hawk & DJ. Content-free baseball broadcast.
  4. QUOTE (harkness @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:24 PM) I don't mind stone... but I can't say I've ever been amazed with his "intangible" perspectives. His ability to call pitches before they happen is truly excellent. He's an amazing analyst, and when he calls games with Jason he's like a new guy.
  5. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 19, 2016 -> 06:40 PM) Ya, the Cubs are the best team in baseball imo but Arietta is not the best pitcher. Kershaw has been, is and probably will be for some time the best pitcher in the game. Fair, but going back to last July it's hard to argue Arrieta isn't a valid "best pitcher in baseball". My particular problem with the "even better than Sale" crack. Chris Sale is a great pitcher that was (until this season) wasted on a bad team. It's not hard to understand why he was left out.
  6. QUOTE (South Sider @ May 19, 2016 -> 06:26 PM) FYI tan·gi·ble ˈtanjəb(ə)l/ adjective 1. perceptible by touch. Too easy. Are you actually Hawk? Tangible
  7. QUOTE (harkness @ May 19, 2016 -> 06:20 PM) Which one is taking the movie seriously? Steve Stone. The only one with real, tangible baseball thoughts.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan85 @ May 19, 2016 -> 05:53 PM) It is just his cockiness and arrogance in how he states that the Cubs are undoubtedly the best team in baseball and Arrieta is the best pitcher in baseball, better than Sale. You don't like that he's telling the truth? Clearly the truth upsets you.
  9. I'm not sure he's worried about employability at this point, but it is clear he needs to seek attention.
  10. QUOTE (harkness @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) Ahh k so Benetti doesn't get excited because it's early in the season...You know this how exactly? I also never said he didn't care - that is the presentation style. I more I listen I'm starting to not like him and Stone together that much. It's kind of like being at the movie but your friends are joking and not paying attention and you are trying to watch the movie. It's fairly obvious Jason is a professional and the Sox have done nothing to get over the moon excited about. The season is too young. Get back to me when he calls the Sox winning the division. Also, if you find the horsecrap Hawk spews out now "a broadcast" and you can get past the fact that Stone visibly dislikes Hawk and hates his antics. Hawk and Stone are like a movie where one person is trying to take the movie seriously and the other is trying to spoil it.
  11. QUOTE (harkness @ May 18, 2016 -> 11:29 PM) I guess a lot of you enjoy the type of announcers that put on the persona that they don't give a F*** about the game. Jason has some good qualities... but he sorry as dottering as Hawk can be at times I prefer his passion and the fact over the years he truly cares about the outcome. Jason is a lifelong White Sox fan. He cares about the outcome of the game. The difference is Jason has perspective. The reality is, there is no reason to get too excited this early in the season. Hawk's "passion" is played out and boring. He gets frustrated and upset by things a month into the season. Please save some of it for when the team is really accomplishing things.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 18, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) Baylor is proving your point I honestly wish it weren't true. I wish colleges could get past the athletics money and deal with the behavioral issues.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 18, 2016 -> 10:03 AM) That team would be a mediocre in the Pacific League. Gross. That team screams first overall pick every year for half a decade. That's just awful.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) Like hell he would. He would have had an epic meltdown. Epic meltdown with zero substance.
  15. QUOTE (shysocks @ May 18, 2016 -> 08:57 AM) Props to Benetti for getting on Twitter after the game last night and hashing out the interference rules. Jason Benetti ‏@jasonbenetti 9h9 hours ago Don't tweet without a rule book in front of you: If a batter is out and impedes a play made on a teammate, the teammate is out. DP. Jason Benetti ‏@jasonbenetti 9h9 hours ago In the case of interference with an on-going batter, runner returns to base. In case of interference with batter who is out, runner is out. Jason Benetti ‏@jasonbenetti 9h9 hours ago As many have cited, the rule is 6.01(a)(5), and the standard is "hinders or impedes." So, no requirement of contact on catcher. Hawk would just go silent and provide no feedback. We're lucky to have Jason.
  16. Not calling/enforcing rules is part of the NBA. There are just certain "basketball moves" where you can break the rules.
  17. If I'm baseball, I want the Cubs to win the World Series ASAP while their guys are young. The media surrounding that franchise would be huge for the sport. If the Cubs had a "dynasty", it would be like the Blackhawks in the NHL magnified tenfold.
  18. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ May 17, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) Joe and Jane Average Fan aren't going to pay for MLB.TV. MLB.TV also has lots of feed problems and, outside of its replay capability, is inferior to a standard TV broadcast. Don't automatically assume that the Cubs' national popularity trajection will remain the same indefinitely. They're no longer getting free airtime on standard cable/satellite packages, and that's going to make a huge difference. And we haven't even begun to consider how the growing popularity of soccer will affect baseball's popularity over the next few decades. Joe and Jane average fan only watch 20% of games anyway. Joe and Jane didn't watch WGN Cubs games because Joe and Jane have jobs. I get it, you don't like the Cubs. That's fine. They're the third most popular team in baseball year in and year out and they're likely to only get bigger regardless of any of your made up scenarios. If the Cubs continue to be good, fans will find them. I could give a crap about the Cubs, but please stop living up to the mantra that Sox fans only care about Cubs failing. It's still not a good look for you.
  19. Here's a 2013 Bleacher a Report article on why bunting is bad in today's game It makes me all the more frustrated. People just don't understand you DON'T bunt with a runner on 1st and no outs. That's not a productive out. Strikeouts are way up and slugging percentage in the top and bottom of the order is way up, so there is no longer a need to waste an out.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ May 17, 2016 -> 10:00 PM) Bulls fire Jen Swanson. Good Great. Send the message to Derrick Rose. His time in Chicago is coming to a close.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 17, 2016 -> 11:22 PM) Times like this the Sox could use the leadership of Drake LaRoche i wish our guys had that TWTW
  22. 162 game season. No reason to dwell on 1
  23. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 17, 2016 -> 08:51 PM) #NBAHell This is absolutely it. Your "star player" is really only a "second best player on the team" caliber player.
  24. QUOTE (Tony @ May 17, 2016 -> 08:50 PM) The more I watch Rodon, the more you can see how young he is, how you can actually see him learning on the job. I'm not trying to sugar coat anything, the Sox REALLY need him if this season is going to be special, but we are watching someone from a progression standpoint that probably should be in AAA, but the talent has won out. Mixed results should be expected right now. We were spoiled by Sale, honestly. We're asking a lot of Rodon early on.
