Sox attended Lincecum showcase day - Angels expected to sign him
Bananarchy replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 12, 2016 -> 07:40 PM) Take a look at Lincecum's stats. ERA might have gone up but less hits than innings pitched and lots of strikeouts. But walks are up. Injury was hip related and not arm trouble. He might be worth the shot Yeah, I'm starting to warm to the idea. Fifth starter. Worth a shot -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 11, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) The Cubs fans at least think they only need to give up minor leaguers for Trout, which is hysterical. I just can't see a way to trade for Trout and not severely alter their current team. I know it's Trout, but he can't play every position.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ May 8, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) Radiohead's A Moon Shaped Pool: 10/10, AotY. Unbelievable. Tears were shed. Pretty stoked to see them at ACL. Really good stuff.

QUOTE (Tony @ May 12, 2016 -> 05:59 PM) I actually think this year may be the worst, considering the Sox are in 1st place and leading the AL in wins. The over-reacting to every pitch is getting obscene. And before you post "That's just how it is every year", don't. It doesn't make it right. I think the reality is a bunch of us have forgotten how to win. To be good still involves losses. I would agree, the last couple of game threads have been pretty rough.

Japan's olympics bid could have involved bribes

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 12, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) This Rio thing is gonna be a litmus test imo. The water quality, the zika virus, the apartments that they werent planning on putting AC in, it seems like its gonna be bad. Agreed. Sochi was just the beginning. Rio could be a disaster. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2016 -> 03:09 PM) The Cubs are on track for a historical season and STILL talking about adding guys like Braun or Trout...or trading Soler to improve the team. That's not a bad thing to have high standards and want to improve a team or make it even stronger to get through the inevitable rough patches and stretch out a divisional lead. How many times have we heard "Well, our leaders Thome/Dye/Konerko got together with KW/Hahn and convinced him we have enough horses in the stable to win this thing..."? Of course, part of that's PR spin to convince the fans to buy in when money hasn't been spent in an attempt to improve the team. And you do have to give them credit, they did everything they could in 2012 with Liriano (flop), Myers (flop), Hudson (won a couple of games in the late innings but in general was toast) and Youkilis (great three weeks and then just couldn't hold it together health-wise)...2010, with Manny Ramirez, that was almost kind of insulting. *Checks website URL* *Checks Forum* The Cubs rant is a little out of place here, now isn't it? Yeah, I want this team to be better, but I'm not just going to cut players and figure it out.

SoxNet: Reasons to believe in Avisail Garcia
Bananarchy replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ May 12, 2016 -> 03:22 PM) I wonder if Garcia's surge at the plate in the past two weeks has raised his trade value. Unfortunately he still profiles as a Right Handed DH and a substandard corner outfielder. In that sense, he is somewhat similar to the guy the Cubs have - Jorge Soler. That kind of player has to hit a ton against LH and RH pitching to stay on a roster or to have much trade value as a DH. Except Soler isn't hitting, right? -

QUOTE (kevo880 @ May 12, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) Interesting. I'm encouraged by Miguel Gonzo's last start anyways. Let's see if he can keep it up! I agree he'll get another start, but I feel like we need to get Rodon going and approach the current situation like we need another pitcher. -
QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ May 12, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) I know I'll sound like Hawk but I still believe it has its place in the game. Yesterday with a cold Sanchez at bat and a slow Jose at first in the 9th inning would've been a great time for a sac bunt, imo. If it's the 9th inning and you need one run, bunting might be appropriate. Even then, I'm not so sure.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 12, 2016 -> 12:57 PM) We must have lost a game or something and once again it's time to get rid of players The Sox win and people want to get rid of players

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ May 12, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) Hawk is a national treasure - one of the greatest baseball announcers of all time. The way Hawk immediately left the booth to check on Frazier after he injured himself yesterday to make sure he was alright and give fans a quick report showed us a lot about this man. Most 75 year old men would not have done that or could not have done that. I find that criticism of this man to be pathetic. But I consider the source - normally Cub fans who detest Hawk while they deify Harry Caray, a sloppy announcer and a drunken fool. But he doesn't really have to do that. I mean yeah, it spares us a silly story that doesn't have anything to do with Frazier, but Hawk's job isn't to go interfere with what is happening in the clubhouse. Most of the criticism on this thread is justified (and coming from White Sox fans, btw). A number of us feel like Hawks was a special announcer and he's a great personality, but he's just past his prime and the whole act is pretty worn out.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 12, 2016 -> 12:44 PM) I was told the Sox were not impressed by Lincecum at his showing. Great news. Hopefully you're right. There's a reason we don't hear about him anymore. -
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 12, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) I remember watching an All-Star game where Barry Bonds was batting 2nd, and on the first pitch he showed bunt (but didn't). I rolled my eyes so hard... why would Barry effing Bonds (at his steroid peak) bunt? That makes NO sense. Ahh yes. The lost art of bad fake bunting. Awesome username, BTW.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 9, 2016 -> 10:42 PM) Green Room YES! Green Room was excellent. I went in not knowing what to expect, but it winds up being a great slasher film. Best I have seen in years.

The sooner we get an automated strike zone, the better
Bananarchy replied to shysocks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 11, 2016 -> 07:49 PM) Couldn't a batter theoretically defeat a technology that calls pitches by making his strike zone smaller by crouching more every at bat ? Ricky Henderson walked a lot because not only did he have a good eye but he also made himself smaller. So then theoretically could not a team of small folks make a mockery of the game just by standing there and basically dare the pitcher to throw the ball into a very small strike zone ? The 1st question I asked is serious. The one about little people not so much. Theoretically, but with the modern computer's ability to self-learn, auto balls/strikes could adapt. I would still have a home plate umpire anyway to double check the computer, anyway. The MLB could make it so that a computer feeds information about pitches into the ear of the home plate umpire or to a watch on his hands. -
WSJ: War on Bunting is Over and the Nerds Won Really interesting stuff. I thought it felt like bunting was way down. The game is changing like crazy with every-play shifts, insane pitching, lots of bad teams, and sabermetric dominance.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) Thought of this last night as I was watching Red Sox pitchers again spending 30 minutes between pitches and TWO challenges that just made my wife hate baseball after a great game to that point: - Every inning that the Red Sox or yankees slow down to a crawl and ruin young peoples love for the game MLB forces: - Red Sox to pay another $1million to Pablo Sandoval - Yankees to pay another $1million to Alex Rodriguez It both punishes the teams but also should work with the MLBPA as the money is getting funneled to players, one fat and the other a douchebag. Thoughts? Holy crap those games would go fast. Like "Did I leave the stove on?" fast.

Really good stuff citing real, tangible things without leaving us buried in numbers. Helps me justify my confidence for sure. -
Echoing the Maui sentiment. My wife and I went there for a non-honeymoon (we went to the Big Island for Honeymoon). Big Island was actually a lot of fun and outdoorsy and was cheaper at the time.

Eaton is the AL MVP nearing the quarter pole
Bananarchy replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Who was the last Eaton type player to win MVP? I'm not questioning the premise, I actually don't know. Ichiro? -
QUOTE (flavum @ May 11, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) Hawk will be in-studio on MLB Central on Friday morning. You've heard the same interview 40-50 times, but he'll be there for you. I actually like his interviews. He's an interesting guy in that situation where someone else is driving the talking points.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) Attendance is definitely a trailing metric for the White Sox. Definitely. Especially if your team is in your local market. Much less of a commitment than going to a game.

QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ May 12, 2016 -> 09:23 AM) Wait! I thought theo could walk on water.... If I'm the Cubs, I'll forgive bad contracts in favor of at least one WS championship. If they don't win this year, there is definitely some room for concern, as I would imagine the Cubs would prefer to not pay that kind of $$$$.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 12, 2016 -> 07:20 AM) I think Tampa Bay wins it all. Wouldn't that be nuts? It's pretty wide open, I think. The Pens look pretty damn impressive.

Winning baseball and a real broadcast team. Loving every second of it. Definitely getting my mlb.tv' subscription's worth.
