  1. QUOTE (harkness @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 09:34 PM) People who let their personality out in jobs like Harrelson are always going to be hated by some. Just like Dick Vitale, John Madden, Gus Johnson ect. Sure you can be the safe "khaki pants" speaking, which some here seem to prefer. But If I watching a white sox game I prefer "homer" announcers... If I'm looking for a different perspective I'll listen to the royals announcers or Twins announcers on foxsports KC,North, ect. Hawk isn't perfect.. but at least he doesn't take an innately boring game and make it more boring like 90% of the announcers do. Who hates Gus Johnson? The difference between Gus Johnson and Hawk and Vitale is Hawk and Vitale blatantly make things up. Gus Johnson is extremely listenable, whereas Hawk and Vitale are complete garbage at this stage in their career.
  2. Starlin is such a strange specimen. he's likely to reach a number of HOF-type milestones, and yet not have a shot at the HOF.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 08:12 PM) Everyone is so upset with Danks. The Sox scored 1 run, that means to win he would have had to give up 1 run or less which Sale, Quintana, and Rodon also failed to do. Teams lose baseball games. Even great ones lose more than 60. I find myself agreeing with this. Obviously, Danks wasn't good today, but Rodon got hammered and only gave up 2. It's baseball, weird things happen.
  4. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 07:23 PM) But he cant field! Did you watch the playoffs last year and think he was going to figure it out? No, he was going to get himself hurt because he has zero (absolutely zero, its almost remarkable) spacial awareness in the OF. He would dive at nothing. There was talk going into the offseason of Theo trading hin for pitching, talk which quickly evaporated, I suspect for non-baseball reasons. Theo had to have seen this coming. You think they stockpiled all that OF depth just for yucks? No self-respecting GM would trade a bat like Schwarber for fear of him having to play the worst defensive position in football. Rowand nailed it: This narrative is silly. If your bat is as good as Schwarber's is, you can play outfield. Manny Ramirez played left field, for heaven's sake.
  5. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) The point of it is not to orient the entire offense around 1 player, but to try and create an environment where a few hits can be strung together. Point taken, but that lineup completely focuses on on-base and not power.
  6. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 07:08 PM) If I'm Schwarber or his agent I'm demanding the Cubs move him once healthy (aka this offseason). They really should have done it this offseason but didn't for obvious reasons. His risk of injury playing the field was exponentially higher than most players, lo and behold the first game the Cubs dont have the DH to fall back on he completely wrecks his knee. Left field is a suicide mission for Kyle Schwarber. This is actually crazy talk. The Cubs have to field him, it's in the rules, and he's not a catcher.
  7. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 07:02 PM) 1 Jackson CF 2 Abreu 1B 3 Eaton RF 4 Frazier 3B 5 Rollins SS 6 Melky LF 7 Lawrie 2B 8 (pls no Avi) 9 Catcher platoon So you have the Catcher, Garcia, and Jackson setting up Abreu. That doesn't make any sense. Most lineups feature their best power hitter to early in the lineup (like 3rd). If anything, power should fall between 4-6 with on base in 1 and 2. This accomplishes none of that.
  8. That totally sucks for a kid on a verge of becoming something special. He'll be back, but I can't imagine him ever catching again.
  9. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) Where did I say I wanted something like this to occur to Schwarber? I had to re-read my post because based on the reactions I thought I must have mis-typed. We know what you meant, but it's still silly. This is peoples' livelihoods. I want to beat the Cubs in the World Series, but I bear no ill will for any of their players.
  10. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) I love how it's opening day, fifth game of the season, we're 3-1, and you guys are talking about next year and draft compensation picks! Baseball business doesn't stop because the season starts. If anything, the business intensifies.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) I know nobody cares about my fantasy team, but I had Schwarber as my catcher. Good thing the Cubs signed Fowler eh? They still have too much redundancy in their lineup, IMHO, but the depth for now is certainly good fortune. At some point, though, they would probably want to strengthen their pitching and move some of these guys that won't get full seasons in Chicago.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 10:18 PM) They beat your Stars 5-1 on February 6th, so give them some credit. Yeah, their recent play gives you no reason to believe, but You just can't give up on a franchise that has won 10 of 11 playoff series with the one loss in Game 7 overtime. That's not really better. I think they can beat either potential opponent in the first round, but I'm really worried about the defense overall.
  13. Blackhawks haven't beaten a Western Conference playoff team since January 24th. Why start now?
  14. When they focus him to talk about only today's game, Hawk has so much more to offer. I thoroughly enjoyed that.
  15. Because the White Sox do nothing for the state of Illinois. I get the "no stadiums are good for cities" thing, but this isn't a new stadium, it's a $7 million scoreboard. And I hate the "Why aren't they paying for the schools instead of ________?". The school system broke itself. Period.
  16. I respect Hawk for what he was in his prime as a broadcaster, but he needs to be done. Hawk since about '07 has completely phoned it in. I look forward to not having to watch the opposing feed out of pure embarrassment for Hawk's silliness. And Benetti is 10 times the announcer Hawk is now.
  17. "bring an element" Like insanity?
  18. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 11:02 PM) This should be a fun AB For the A's
  19. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 10:58 PM) haha okay bud, you gonna tell me witches aren't real too? wake up SHEEPLE Okay, i loled.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 10:57 PM) Did someone say Cubs? Oh, austinillini said Cubs. The only thing dumber than the word Cubs is the word "Jinx" They're not real. Period.
  21. We use the term "jinx" a lot for a fanbase that hates the Cubs.
  22. Are we seriously on the f***ing Jungle Cruise?
  23. It just sucks that the same holes are bursting in this ship again
