QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:36 AM) Is there any statistical correlation between this event and increased injury risk vs their normal routine? Assuming that international play is the same intensity as an NHL game, the odds of getting injured in any one game are roughly the same. So yes, there is absolutely an increase in likelihood of injury. The reality is, however, because the NHL is behind the World Cup of Hockey, it will likely stay, but Olympic hockey will likely end for NHL players.

MLB proposes new road to majors for Cubans

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) Peter Gammons @pgammo 5h5 hours ago MLB proposes easier path for Cuban players http://atmlb.com/1TacylS via @mlb. Creating a fork in their roads without involving human traffic This needs to happen ASAP. The stories about Cuban baseball players defecting read like horror stories. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:28 AM) Personally I love to watch the Hawks play in the Olympics/World Cup, but I will be furious if Chris Sale ever throws a single pitch in a World Baseball Classic. Which is kind of funny, because the White Sox aren't likely to win it all with or without Sale, but a loss like Toews or Kane could derail the Blackhawks "dynasty"

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) They are getting paid less than Adam Laroche. Then they should have played baseball? They're among the highest paid players in the NHL. They're paid to play in the NHL. Period.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) Which they do a lot. Right, well until they retire, they're getting paid insane money to win cups, not play international matches that don't matter and risk injury. There's a reason the NHL wants pro players out of the Olympics and this is no different. Every year is critical in this Stanley Cup window. The last thing the Blackhawks need is a star player breaking a collarbone or worse.

QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 08:54 AM) You hate the World Cup of Hockey. Got it. So next season, you'd rather watch pre-season hockey than 8 teams made up of primarily All-Stars compete in a tournament where they actually care about playing and it's intense hockey? Makes sense. It's all fun and games until your guy gets hurt. Kane and Toews are paid to do one thing, that is win the Stanley Cup.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 06:26 PM) I didn't realize if the season ended we would be out of the playoffs. The Bulls have more to gain with a lottery pick than they do making the playoffs. But just you wait, once Jimmy Ball starts, the Bulls will get the selfs a 7 seed, solidifying themselves in complete irrelevance.

QUOTE (kevo880 @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 05:30 PM) I know it's not a huge position of need, but knowing how John Fox loves having multiple RB's and how our RB coach used to be OSU's RB coach, who apparently get's all the credit from Elliot for Elliot turning into the beast that he is; does anyone here think it's even a possibility that the Bears could draft Elliot in the 1st? The Bears should take the best overall player at 11, period. If it's Elliot, go for it. The only position the Bears really don't need is quarterback, and even then you take the future starter anyway if it's the best talent for the position.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 10:39 PM) Seabrook had 4 points. Not defensive statistic. Also, I hate the World Cup of hockey. Call me old fashion, but if the champion doesn't hoist the Stanley Cup at the end, it doesn't matter. Kane and Toews are paid to wear the red sweater with the indian head.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 09:38 PM) Or the league's 2nd best goalie this season has been saving the defense's ass? This all day.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) Hum. Apparently I forgot how to multiply and divide yesterday, oops. I just asked Siri... ...then she sends me to a website on bing then I type in the maths.

2016-2017 NCAA football thread

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 06:48 PM) Not just a booster, but a member of the board of trustees, but then this is the same school that currently employs Bobby Petrino and Rick Pitino, so is anybody surprised? Texas big money guys are looking for a reason to fire Charlie Strong. Should be interesting if anything comes of this. -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) 3 games, really. 30/162 almost equals 3/16. I think it should've been more. Agreed. Should have been 50. Approximately a third of the season.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) We may not have a legendary lineup like the Cubs but we have better blogs etc: https://twitter.com/DEvanAltman/status/705059075088900097 I chuckled. That's just typical.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 08:34 AM) And if you want to win, what kind of strategy is selling high? Should the Sox trade Sale, Abreu, Quintana? How will their trade value be any higher? Unless you like perpetual rebuilds, you build around good players. Eaton is a good player. Agreed on this. Midseason, I might change my mind, but in the preseason it's way too early to talk about selling high. A team with this staff isn't a seller, period.

I'm hoping for at least some regression towards the mean this season. I just don't get the feeling he's done.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 02:08 PM) I think the Bears will have to tag him twice if they are insistent on $12 per. No reason for him to do that. Thomas' deal was for $70 million and $45 million guaranteed. What I proposed is slightly less than that. Couple of easy reasons why it makes sense 1) The guaranteed money will more than cover the double Franchise money 2) The chance of an injury derailing a career or hurting value always looms Especially point 1. Alshon is not as good as Dez Bryant.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 11:01 AM) I agree with everything here Austin. Frazier just seems like a more personable guy/player. Fans will love him here. I hope he's really good to go along with the personality.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 07:34 AM) Not enough in this environment. I bet he's asking for $15 million per year. Bears are probably offering $11-$12 million hence the wide gap. I think right around $13 million probably get its done. 5 years $65 million with $36+ million in guaranteed $$. I dunno, that's like Bryant/Thomas money. He had a bad year last year in the durability category. I'd say $12 million per is max. With the young talent coming out at the receiver position every year, I'm shocked the market for these guys hasn't softened yet.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 10:39 AM) Samardzija never once committed to the Sox Samardzija may have said a couple of things, but he made it 100% clear he wanted to go into free agency. The bad season last year sunk him, so the Sox wouldn't even bother competing for his services as any contract was an overpayment. I feel this is more genuine.

Bad defense is ingrained in our culture. You can only hide so much bad defense.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) I agree, although I think once they start talking about it, it's going to happen. At that point, MLB will have doubled since 1901; that would be a good place to cap it. What I'm concerned about is radical realignment. If the Sox and Cubs have to play each other 6-8 series per season, I think I might be done with baseball. And if they ever go to 8 divisions of 4 teams, I'm for sure done with baseball. That would be a guarantee of bad teams making the playoffs only because they are the best team of an arbitrary 4-team grouping. It's bad enough with 5-team divisions. 4-team divisions would be a train wreck for baseball. No way the MLB ever puts two teams in the same city in the same league. Also, if you're that fickle, you might as well just stop watching.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 12:48 AM) Does Seattle have the right to protect its market from competition in Portland or Vancouver? I guess not. For all these years, the Giants have been able to block an Oakland move to San Jose, and then the Nationals/Orioles have their own long history of disputes as well. I would ask the same question about the Rangers and the Astros in Austin. I'm not sure where they would build a stadium like that here. Maybe near the F1 track?

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 08:08 PM) http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/which-l...xpansion-022816 http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/how-wou...baseball-022816 John Paul Morosi had a good take on possible expansion and realignment today. It would be nice to see Montreal get a team back, and I think Vancouver and Austin would be good spots as well. The realignment proposal is interesting and he's really just throwing stuff at the wall. Seeing the Sox in a division with the Cubs, Cardinals and Brewers would be fun though. We'll pass. The Rangers and Astros are popular enough here. Plus, most of us are transplants, anyway. Edit: Although I guess seeing the White Sox in Austin would be pretty great...

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 09:14 PM) Anyone ever read the tweets from Gordon beckham's wife? I'm surprised that never became a topic back when he was with the team. Gordon Beckham's wife is 1) Not a celebrity 2) Not affiliated with the Chicago White Sox
