  1. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) It's not just Reinsdorf's money. It's the money of the entire ownership group in which Reinsdorf is a part of. He has to run the team with the interests of the other owners in mind too. He can't just take money out of their pockets to overspend for his pet project. He's the majority owner. He can do what he wants on that front. And it's not like one outfielder is what is going to blow up this deal. The White Sox have the money. Don't worry about overspending. 1) There's no cap 2) The 2017 team sheds a lot of weight I don't want to go for it every year. I'm a rebuilder guy, but if you're going to go for, go for it.
  2. QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Extend that - what if they want to sign Cespedes and Upton. No salary cap, Reinsdorf has the money, should be easy, right? If they want to pay it, go right ahead and don't worry about overpaying. It's not that big of a deal.
  3. QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) You overstate your No Salary Cap point. Teams operate within very real budget constraints whether there's a hard cap or not, I'm not sure why you pretend otherwise. If the White Sox want a FA outfielder "not being able to afford it" isn't going to stop them. Period. Reinsdorf has the money.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:45 PM) Stop what? I'll make my posts less antagonistic on this if you think they are, but Sox aren't going to be abe to sign a Gordon or Upton or Cespedes. They don't have the $$ for that. If I'm wrong there, I'll be the biggest Hahn fan forever. Right now, I want Lexi and want Avi to turn into Little Miggy. What's wrong with that take? I'm just $aying a fan is dreaming if they think we can sign one of those 3. Rock, you make your statements like they are 100 percent fact. I feel I've been reasonable in my assessment of what I see as an overpay. I already said I want Frazier and Sox need Frazier. I could counter your first sentence with Trayce can field and he looked like a guy who could hit; Micah has always been considered a great prospect though his glove was thoroughly disappointing in his one stint with the Sox and Montas throws 100 and is supposed to be a certain big leaguer. Are you sure you watched baseball? Everybody knows what Trayce and Micah were. Trayce was a guy with a big name and Micah was kind of a disappointment. and for the 400th time Major League Baseball Salary Cap Infinite Dollars
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:29 PM) Shocker, Greg thinks trading fringe big league players is overpaying. And even if it were, who cares? There isn't a salary cap. It doesn't matter at all how much they pay him.
  6. QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) Come on man, this is so intellectually dishonest. Trayce is not a .900 OPS guy. The fact that there are people here who believe TT is a .900 OPS guy is enough that we should move him. He's not very good at baseball but his value is very high.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) I LOVE this trade. Gave up three talented but flawed prospects for one of the best 3B in baseball. With two years of control, you can give him a few months and then possibly discuss extension, but if he's not interested you'll most likely end up with a comp pick when leaves and hopefully have Trey Michalczewski ready to replace him at that time (obviously not a sure thing). Having said that, we still need to add an OF to replace Avi. Do that, and this team can be serious contenders next year. Agreed. It's refreshing for Hahn to sell high on a guy like Thompson instead of sitting on him until he's no longer a viable bargaining piece.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:16 PM) It really is amazing guys whose profession sort of requires they know some things, are totally clueless. Well, ever since the big Cubbie move to WSCR, you knew their focus would shift heavily.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) Spiegel speculating Courtney Hawkins as a 4th outfielder this coming season. Turns off radio... I don't mind S&G at all, but Spiegs has no business talking White Sox. CH as a 4th outfielder is nonsense.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) I wonder if we hear Hawk say "the strong arm of Lawrie" on every double play Well, at least it will only be every road double play.
  11. I'll take either, but I think the White Sox have a positive history with Cuban players and might have an easier time convincing Cespedes.
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 09:56 PM) That Sharp trade looks really bad now. Hopefully Goose is up permanently now. Scuderi is slow as molasses. Horrible. You get a bad defenseman in exchange for your best prospect, trade him for a worse defenseman. Jim Nill completely exploited Stan Bowman.
  13. This is the kind of trade you make when no other GM is going to help you out. Everyone knows where the Blackhawks are weak. No GM in this conference, let alone the rest of the NHL is actually going to help the Blackhawks solve their defensive issues without some massive return.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) Guys, having Eaton allows us to have Laroche, don't forget that. /thread
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) Contracts are the biggest parts of trades and signings anymore. It isn't about player comparision. I think everyone here knows Heyward is the better player, but if you have $23 million to spend, you are better off with Eaton and whatever else you can get with the balance. This is wrong. There's no limit to how much money teams can spend, so the Heyward money is play money. It's all about player value. Teams can sign guys and sit them if they want.
  16. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) Ofcourse they get a ton of credit. But if we're doing about player comparisons I'm not taking Eaton over Jason Heyward. I think comparing their contract status is silly. The circumstances are completely different for each player. Agreed. This is a reasonable, non-homer answer. In other sports with caps, contract status matters. Both the White Sox and the Cubs have enough money and there's no salary cap. You take Heyward.
  17. The right answer is Heyward, but I still like Eaton a lot.
  18. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) Why not? Because of the TV deals and attendance? You watch how that suffers the next couple of years as the cubs continue in this direction. Because Chicago is big enough to support two teams. There isn't an obviously better TV market that needs a team. And I get called out for being critical of the White Sox. They belong in Chicago.
  19. 3-0 Nashville with three minutes left in the first
  20. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 09:54 AM) OK, when he starts beating his wife and driving drunk, somebdy PM me so I can get worked up about it. That's not enough to anger sports fans.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) It was never in doubt. If only the rest of the league played the same way, it would be the early 80's all over again! If I were a real Stars fan, i'd be frustrated. As someone who only subscribes to the Blackhawks and gets the Stars for free, they're a lot of fun. They're just build like a first round exit.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 10:01 PM) Stars gonna Stars. 4-0 quickly becomes 5-5 Sharp scores. Stars win 6-5 in regulation. 21-5-2 on the season.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 09:42 PM) Teuvo with a nice game When he's good, he's special. Good to see him catch fire.
  24. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) Did that really happen...? Wow. If it did, tough. There are so many layers representing the players, this should never actually happen. It's clear both parties miss each other.
