  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) Wasn't that all proven to be not true? Also, how does Cubit get a pass here? He's the OC. How do the OC and DC not know about players playing hurt or not getting treatment? To answer the first question: I don't know, but didn't the assistant immediately run for the hills? If this were a regular end-of-year firing, I would fully expect Cubit to be gone, however I understand the Illini do have to field a team.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) Sox were 3-3 vs. the Cubs and 2-2 vs. the Cards. Why are they considered so good and the Sox so bad? These things are so random. You might have your bottom 3 starters face their top 3 in a series. Its hard for me to think a team could be 20-30 games over .500 in one league and just be average in the other. I think the teams that are good in each league would be good if they were in the other league. Because the White Sox are really, really bad. The Cubs are over 20 games over .500. What team are you watching?!
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) Here's the problem with that. He is the AD. He hired Beckman. Beckman had issues at his previous job. The guy running the department needs to know what is going on. If his excuse is being naïve, that kind of goes against his job description. He needs to go. Didn't he also sign the abusive women's basketball coach?
  4. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) Beckman gone now time Mike Thomas is FIRED also. If Thomas doesn't get fired, this doesn't matter.
  5. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) I don't how you can say that. First of all, the AL is 140-118 in interleague play, that's a .542 winning percentage, or an 88 win pace. Small sample size, but the Cubs have a losing record against the AL Central this season (I'm not saying they'd be under .500 in our division though). The AL is clearly better this year in my opinion, the worst six teams in the major leagues are all in the NL. All the top teams in the NL get to pad their win totals against them. I'm not convinced that the Pirates or Cardinals are better than the Blue Jays or Astros at this point, the schedules are too imbalanced and there's too much variation in baseball to simply say "better record = better team". It's been discussed endlessly and tirelessly that the lack of a DH is a major disadvantage to NL teams in interleague play. Until there's a DH in the NL, they will continue to have a worse record.
  6. Still waiting for those 30 home runs a season pace Hawk predicted.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 12:04 AM) Just have Hawk do all home games and like somebody said, the Boston and Yankee road series and Cubs road series. He doesn't need to be doing all those boring Central Division road games. I hope they don't bring in some golden throated homer. The former Sox announcers are great. Let Stoney do the play by play in the games Hawk doesn't do with DJ as his color man. Let the remaining two radio guys do the radio, whomever they may be. He's such a horrible broadcaster at this point they should force him to resign. He doesn't even make sense anymore.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 03:29 AM) What is sad is it's pretty obvious they might finally win a WS. Probably not this year but soon. They have the core. Now they just need to keep signing free agent pitchers. For them to not win it all, they have to blow it like we did with Shark. If I had to handicap the WS champions over the next 5 years, the Cubs would only trail the Cardinals in the NL. Their organization is just incredible at this point. Think about next year. The Cubs should be favorites to land David Price (they have his former coach). Lester, Price, Arrieta? Holy cow.
  9. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 09:58 PM) I think the cubs would be under .500 in the AL The NL is better than the AL overall, though. They have the hardest division in baseball. They'd be 30 over in the AL Central.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 01:56 PM) What professional athlete do you know of that hasnt taken a girl home from a bar? Obviously he's a moron for not vetting them better but I dont see that situation as abnormal Or, you know, he could have been stupid for sexually assaulting a woman while under the influence of alcohol.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) Yup, this is what I meant. If I had to guess, the reason they don't do this is the Cubs discussion would flood the MLB discussion.
  12. I would hope people are smart enough to know games won are completely meaningless, especially in this day and age.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) Wouldn't you rather discuss it with people who follow their team and not another? Do you use Cubs themed sites? Why should we? I like a lot of the people here. Why should I have to go somewhere else to discuss other teams? There's a general baseball board and the most popular topic would be the Cubs. Might as well have a Cubs catch-all thread. Plus, I hope someday the White Sox will have similar success to these Cubs.
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 08:15 AM) I have friends that love them too. Doesn't mean I care about them. I suppose. Personally, I'm glad there is a site where we can talk about the Cubs and not be essentially hazed. A certain other site kicked me off for like the Cubs. Admittedly, part of it is being far away from Chicago now, so a lot of the cultural clash of the two fanbases seems to be in the distant past for me. There are a ton of Cub fans here and they all just want to watch and talk baseball. It's reasonably refreshing relative to the scumbags on social media who flame Sox fans that like watching the young and exciting Cubs play.
  15. QUOTE (Wedge @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 07:54 AM) I took a look at the 2015-2016 MLB free agent list: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/09/2016...ree-agents.html What's depressing to me is that I'm not sure the Sox could buy their way out of their present situation, even if they had infinite money. I'm not seeing how the Sox can cobble together an average lineup without trading off at least one of the young guns (Quintana, Sale, Rodon). Your best bet at this point is to try to jumpstart the club with a 1998 Astros/Mariners type trade (where the Mariners got Carlos Guillen and Freddy Garcia for Randy Johnson). Agreed on this. We tried to buy fixes last season and none of them hit. A smarter organization would start moving pieces for prospects. Unfortunately, we don't have that luxury and the position player drafting is mediocre.
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) I know this has probably been addressed over the 109 pages, but why do we even have a Cubs catch-all thread on SoxTalk? Some of us want to watch and talk about actual baseball in September.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 10:19 PM) LMAO, that's simply ridiculous. Chris Sale says hi. And Abreu > Bryant/Schwarber at the moment, too. 1) I meant position players 2) Bryant is a better base runner and position player than Abreu. Rizzo is better all-around. He's having an insane season.
  18. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) Schwarber would look good in a Sox jersey. That kid is a beast. The crazy thing is Schwarber, Bryant, or Rizzo would be the best players on our team. Russell would be the best fielder on our team.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) talking about missing the silver bullet. i wonder if a civil suit will happen, or would kane and legal rep just buys her off. now for the big question, does the hawks still look into dealing him??? Absolutely not. They might discipline him, but he'll be a Blackhawk.
  20. So much Cub hate on this thread. Too bad, because the Cubs will be better than the White Sox for the foreseeable future.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) Last month a group of Senators met with the negotiating representatives of the other major powers in the agreement & heard their positions about what would happen if the US voted down this deal. Cue the imperialist Republicans.
  22. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 08:17 PM) If they are profiting AT ALL, it is illegal. They should know what thier costs are so they can recoup them, if that's all they are doing. But instead they are making money off it, which is illegal. Change the law if you don't like it, but it is illegal. Have we established they are profiting? What evidence do we have other than you don't like them?
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) Rizzo calls Sale the best in baseball Most of the time, he is right. The issue is, it feels like every year Sale has one or two poor showings. Just enough to eliminate him from Cy Young contention. That being said, that dud King Felix through might help our guy.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:49 PM) He's not a legend? He's legendary. He was a legend 10 years ago. Now he's just overstayed his welcome, honestly.
  25. QUOTE (AJUribe @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) Would take hawk all day over dorkiest man on the planet in len kasper. Len Kasper talks about baseball and understands the game. Hawk blatantly makes things up, ignores statistics, and puts everyone to sleep with references about nobodies from the 70s.
