  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 08:11 PM) My Eastern Conference prediction that I posted on a Bulls forum: 1. Cleveland Cavaliers (65-17) 2. Chicago Bulls (56-26) 3. Miami Heat (50-32) 4. Washington Wizards (49-33) 5. Milwaukee Bucks (48-34) 6. Toronto Raptors (46-36) 7. Atlanta Hawks (44-38) 8. Orlando Magic (40-42) ------------ 9. Detroit Pistons (39-43) 10. Brooklyn Nets (37-45) 11. Boston Celtics (37-45) 12. Indiana Pacers (34-48) 13. Charlotte Hornets (33-49) 14. New York Knicks (29-53) 15. Philadelphia 76ers (21-61) ------------ 1. Cavaliers def 8. Magic 4-0 2. Bulls def 7. Hawks 4-2 3. Heat def 6. Raptors 4-1 5. Bucks def 4. Wizards 4-2 2. Bulls def 3. Heat 4-3 1. Cavaliers def 5. Bucks 4-1 1. Cavaliers def 2. Bulls 4-3 Cavs lose to Spurs 4-2 in Finals Good post. I think this is pretty spot on. Despite my continuing frustration regarding the Bulls' place in the NBA right now, I think Hoiberg improves the team in the short run. At first glance, it would appear that the team would get worse defensively, however their personnel are becoming increasingly offense-based. This teams offense was improved last year with a Thibodeau offense. I expect big things under Hoiberg's offense.
  2. QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) It's pretty evident that your Stars fandom is coloring your perception, just as you say it's affecting that of Hawks' fans. Hockey has nothing to do with it. I would never support a scumbag. I'm mad about Greg Hardy, too.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) People who engage in sexual harrassment are pretty bad people to be speaking down to people on how to react to allegations of sexual assault. It like like having the Klan speak to racial equality. No, it's not. It's like a thief speaking to you about manslaughter. Sexual harassment is bad, I get it all the time, but rape is quite another thing.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) People who engage in sexual harrassment are pretty bad people to be speaking down to people on how to react to allegations of sexual assault. It like like having the Klan speak to racial equality. Why? Because sexual harassment is something even close to rape? Please. You're trying to defend an alleged rapist because you want to have another parade in your city. You don't know Patrick Kane and he doesn't know you. I'm embarrassed for the city of Chicago and their despicable victim blaming of a young woman. I suppose a bandwagon fanbase would be a second rate one at that.
  5. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 06:35 PM) Crazy talk. The White Sox ARE currently doing what you want them to be doing. They just did it so damn fast and well that you didn't even notice and took a shot at competing with the new core because it's so damn good. Either your television doesn't work, or you are being sarcastic.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Some reports that Rose is looking like his "old" self. I think he's going to take a big step forward. Not necessarily MVP Rose, but I think we are going to see All Star Rose this year. Of course I'm the resident Bulls homer. If he can't get to the hoop and settles only for threes, it's going to be a long year. Rose shooting threes is like trying to ford a river in a Cadillac.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) Between the Cubs and the Knicks dynasties, the next 10 MLB/NBA titles are all spoken for. This nonsense is silly. All that matters is the White Sox and Bulls are locked out by their own stupidity. The White Sox management lacks the guts to do what is necessary.
  8. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) You know, I really wish one of his fellow media guys would call him on that too. Why does that matter at all? Unless DB raped someone, this is a non story relative to what Patrick Kane has done. I know you feel hurt because you're a Blackhawks fan. Get over it. Your hero may be a complete monster. Luckily for you, he likely gets away with it.
  9. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 07:15 PM) What made him great was he won the only World Series in almost every living White Sox fan's lifetime. Not many of us can wait another 88 years. In all honesty, that was a perfect storm. The White Sox can do better at manager. But I agree with the general sentiment that our front office is an obstacle to any real progress in the organization.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 05:45 PM) Ozzie has come out and said it was his decision. So you can go ahead and put your Ozzie shield down It's really easy to criticize Ozzie for what he did as a manager when he made a mistake. The truth is, what made him great is he took credit for his decisions. I miss that. I miss having a manager, too.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) Rose opting out of Team USA. Not surprised. He fears getting embarrassed and no was was he making the final cut barring a lot of injuries. His rope is so short at this point. He's not very good anymore and another injury will all but ruin his marketability for future contracts. The more interesting question is "Where does he sign next?". I doubt it's Chicago.
  12. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 06:15 PM) I hope Kane is innocent in all this. Well, duh.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) Wait, we are now using the NFL as the gold standard of punishment? LOL No, we're using it as a precedence. The worst league of all of them when it comes to punishing abusers gave a guy 4 games (1/4 season) for being cleared of a crime. I would expect, the NHL is better, the NHL would outdo that, for sure.
  14. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) Why are you lead to believe that all other professional entities will act as the NFL does? They arent quite the model of conduct that everyone wants to follow. Sorry, but the recent NFL struggles with violence against women is precedence enough. Either way, the EA sports cover is gone.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 02:48 PM) nhl, nfl, nba ml are all different and have different ways of running their league. again you are making an assumption. I assumed the NHL takes violence against women as seriously as the NFL now does. I would count on not having Patrick Kane of at least 20 games if I'm the Blackhawks.
  16. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) get real. you are calling AD naive and yet you are talking about something like you are a voice of authority???? do you work for the NHL front office, and if not, how do you know how they will react. I am real, dude. The NFL punishes people who settle or are cleared. I expect the NHL to do the same.
  17. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) The response should be that they are going to follow the law and unless/until there is a guilty verdict, he is a hockey player and member of the Blackhawks, and presumed to be innocent. End of story. You are not 'aiding rape culture' by letting him play or be in the team while this is adjudicated, and you are not pandering to those calling for his head without evidence yet. The NHL is about hockey, not justice, social or otherwise. This posts oozes naivete. This line of thinking he is dead. The NHL cannot have a player under investigation for rape on the ice. Period.
  18. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) If he survives this situation as not being guilty, it would behoove him to have a security system put in place in his house that records everything, all the time, to prevent future incidents. If he is guilty, then he has to deal with the courts. If the rumor that the woman was very young is true, the camera doesn't help. The issue could be a matter of consent or her age, which is grey and a camera doesn't necessarily help.
  19. QUOTE (RegionSox @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) It seems really weird for the NHL to suspend him if he were cleared of the charges. It would happen in any other league. If it were the NFL, you're looking at a quarter of a season suspension (Greg Hardy). I expect the NHL to hold Kane to the same standard.
  20. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) If he's cleared though, what "situation" has he put himself in? Going out with friends? Sleeping with someone? I don't know if he's got a girlfriend or not (if he did, then obviously there's the cheating component), but if he's single and he's cleared of wrongdoing, he has not put himself in any "situation." Still need more details, but we know there was a kit. We also know he didn't contact the Blackhawks about his situation, so they're more in the dark than even we are. And don't think a clearance won't get him suspended. That seems inevitable now, as the NHL does NOT have to obey the "innocent until proven guilty" clause.
  21. QUOTE (Julius @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) In my opinion, the sox will not get Chris Sale into the playoffs during the remaining years of his contract. In other words the "3 year plan" will be an utter failure. Once his contract is up, they will let him walk. In turn, the sox brass will be let go and JR sells the team. The sox brass are at fault. People who think that it makes sense to go from Mark Kotsay->Adam Dunn->Adam LaRoche deserved to be canned. They won't move him now, and they shouldn't, but the White Sox will move Chris Sale before the three years are up. I would expect him gone a year and a half into the last three years.
  22. Taking a step back, this is an absolutely dreadful offseason for the Blackhawks. Even if he is "cleared", it is a huge problem that Patrick Kane keeps putting himself in these situations
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 09:54 AM) With this pitching staff, this team doesn't need a full rebuild. Those that think they do are just b****ing to b****. It is the same group of people everytime. Simply put, the Sox dug themselves a hole the first 2 months of the season that they were unable to dig out of - poor pitching, god awful defense and a historically bad offense will do that. The pitching has rebounded and is now one of the best staffs in MLB this season. The defense has been much, much, much better this summer. The offensive has shown signs, but definitely needs work. IMO, a 3B and C would be my top priorities this offseason, but I don't know how you'll find longterm solutions. The FA class is void in those positions (I would resign Soto, though), so it will require Rick to make a couple trades. I don't think LaRoche is going anywhere, but I do expect him to rebound some next year. He's battled a hand issue all season, which obviously has negatively impacted his bat speed. The biggest issue I see is there are no "quick fixes" to this offense. I think it just needs another chance, which isn't what most here want to see, but I just can't see any other way around it. But a full rebuild is out of the question - and rightfully so. How many seasons does this or some variation of this have to happen before we start over, though? All but one in the last 9 seasons has been "Well, player X is battling an unseen Y injury and player Z is going to rebound next year and the pitching has been good and the offense has shown signs...". Wake up. They have the worst offense in the AL and now the pitching is going south.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 05:39 PM) i agree, i do not think a complete rebuild is necessary esp now, i think a couple of final pieces are necessary. whether that is address via trade or the fa's rt. if the beginning of this season, which is a mystery to me, never happen the way it did, and the team won a little more than 1/2 of their games, this would have been a different season. better yet, a little more than a 500 record in the al central would have been better. The bold is indicative that you are not watching games. New right fielder New DH New Third baseman New Shortstop New Second Baseman By that logic, everyone is a few pieces from contention.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) As recently as 2009 the Astros brought in as much revenue as the White Sox did. With the mess that has been their TV deal, that has had a huge hit to their revenues. Clear that up, and they are pretty identical franchises. And that is after averaging right about 100 losses a season over a 5 year period. As a team dominated by another team's fanbase in their own city, comparing Houston to the White Sox only bolsters my argument. The Astros are THE model for the White Sox. They're similar. The Astros are NOT a typical "Major Market" team.
