Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal
Bananarchy replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 12:56 PM) This should have been known already. Samardzija has always wanted to test free agency. He's looking for a $100 million deal and I think he gets it. If it comes to something like 5/$85-$90 million, then I could see White Sox getting involved. I'd rather spend that $$ elsewhere though and go with young rotation. When you look at the free agents for next season, i would be interested to see who would offer that kind of money. Yankees? Red Sox? It's a lot to pay for Jeff Samardzija. -
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) Not comparing pitchers, but lets take a look at Kershaw's rookie season: 107.2 IP, 109 H, 52 BB's, 100 K's, 4.26 ERA Rodon: 80 IP, 86 H, 48 BB's, 87 K's, 4.84 ERA Again, not saying Carlos is going to turn into Clayton, but the talk about sending him down, he's an average prospect, ect ect is incredibly premature. Almost every redraft has Rodon going number 1. Smarter people that us seem to think he's a big piece of the Sox's future.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) Wow, that's pretty crazy. We're really fortunate the AL is rough this season.

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 12:19 PM) Small market teams like the White Sox have no business signing pitchers to contracts that average out to over 20 million a year. It's just stupid. They will get hurt or will get rocked at some point and won't be worth the dough. If they were willing to spend 200 million or more per season on contracts, fine. But not in the current climate of small market teams. Small market? Yeah, okay. The White Sox have deep pockets and a huge, sleeping fanbase. If the pitchers can win games, get butts in the seats, you pay for them at market price even with the bad money at the end. -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 11:45 AM) Spending $20 million per year for a guy whose stuff has been declining the past couple of years would be a big mistake. That's the nature of pitchers, though. You have to accept that you're going to pay bad money at the end of his contract. But it's not a big deal, there's no cap. -
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 10:07 AM) The Yankees broadcast crew sure were impressed on the play, and also with Garcia's arm. People either forget or refuse to accept that Avi is 24 and still getting better. Another reason to take him over Viciedo.

SOXTALK HOT TAKE: Why the Sox did NOTHING
Bananarchy replied to witesoxfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's really that simple. The White Sox had one tradeable piece. If they didn't get the right offer for Shark, than I'm glad they didn't move him. -
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 08:28 AM) 4 or 5??? After the Sale and Rodon starts this week, Danks is ace material until at least his next start. That's what Danks is, a 4 or 5.
-
QUOTE (gosox41 @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 07:24 AM) Haha. Doubtful on the plate discipline. Not sure why he's back here. Don't we have guys at the ML level that can hit .220, not play D, and strikeout a lot? Bob Well, for now he's not back here, he's down there. He's a Charlotte Knight
-
QUOTE (Nokona @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) The last two weeks, he's really liked being here. I think it's nice. "But where's he gonna play?"
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:59 PM) Was at the game today, crowd was fantastic. Awesome to see that park filled up. Danks was on The stadium rocks supporting a winning team.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 11:01 PM) Cardinals and the Mets are pretty strong too, although this version of Danks makes the Sox look pretty good Agreed, but as of late the staff has been terrific top to bottom, except for a few blips.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 11:25 PM) Winning is fun. Someone tell this team that lol How did LaRoche look? Look in from tonight's contest
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 11:21 PM) Apologies to Greg from the majority? I've been quoting stats like these and getting ripped mercilessly. Go Sox! Can't just beat the teams in first place. Have to pitch well vs everyone.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 11:26 PM) Just keep in mind. Never know what can happen with these teams injury wise. Still a lot of baseball left. This is why I'm glad calmer heads prevailed when Jose got hit. Retaliation is just going to get someone on either side hurt. I don't want another situation like Quentin in '08. Hawk was calling for retaliation. I'm glad Robin is smarter than Hawk.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:55 PM) You forgot the $10.5 million worth of goalies on the roster See, right now that matters less, as Benn, Seguin, and Klingberg are on bridge contracts. When Benn is due for money, Hemsky is off the books and when Seguin is due for a raise, Spezza is off. I swear, the Blackhawks would have won 5 if Jim Nill were there GM.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 11:05 PM) Sox 18-10 the last 28, which is great. Now play .600 ball the rest of the season for 86 wins. Sounds so daunting when you put it that way
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:45 PM) Eaton's OPS is now higher than last year. Amazing. Makes me feel better about his contract, but he has to keep it up. It's the same thing I worry about with this team. They stayed put on free agency, but they have to keep winning.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 07:39 PM) That'd be the Nats. Second best in AL. I'll still take the 'Stros over us, but not by much
-
QUOTE (harkness @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) at least Tank can hit home runs... Avi is better on defense but offers zero punch at the plate. Give me Avi. Dude hits for average at least. Viciedo isn't a major league baseball player.

Detroit and Cleveland...yikes
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:18 PM) It would stil be 2.40. Despite what some want to say, 3 out of 4 Danks starts are not awful. I'll take him as a fourth or fifth starter. Sure, he's overpaid, but there's no cap, so meh.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:12 PM) Danks: "The first time I looked up and saw 93, I wanted to throw confetti out there."

My Stars Benn-Seguin-Nichushkin Sharp-Spezza-Hemsky Roussell-Eakin-Sceviour Moen-Fiddler-Ritchie Goligoski-Klingberg Oduya-Demers Benn/jokki/oleksiak-johns Offense so good, Defense so bad

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:04 PM) Danks at 93?! He was seriously insane tonight. Really makes me feel good about our staff. Duke was good, too.
