QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 14, 2017 -> 06:20 PM) Astros are a very, very good baseball team. So glad we're rebuilding in their mold. We would have to be very fortunate to have the players develop the way Houston has succeeded, but it feels so much better to have a direction similar to teams that have achieved success.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 15, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) This is a short look into Kaplan’s thoughts about baseball: When the cubs were losing 100 games a year, and fans(especially him) were questioning the patience that Theo was advocating and saying “spend spend spend” In the off-season, with Rizzo ALREADY ON THE TEAM, this is what Kaplan advocated Think about how different the cubs would have been if they gave Pujols the contract that the Angels did He's like sportscaster greg

John Greenberg was asking for suggestions for Chicago based rap artists to play for Cubs' closer entrances. Too bad the White Sox own the Chicago hip hop market. All these Chance the Rapper posts. Nope.

QUOTE (Quin @ Oct 15, 2017 -> 10:19 AM) I'm so happy for Q proving morons like Kaplan wrong. Not to derail this thread, but Kaplan makes me so mad with that crap. Between the Q nonsense and the "If the Sox had all these assets to trade, why didn't they win anything?", he has few redeeming sports thoughts.

As if there were any doubt of the superior team. Give me an Astros/Dodgers World Series.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) That's pretty much what happened to East when North closed, right? It's more to do with the feeder programs. The two best youth football programs in the area are in Mokena/Frankfort. It translate to East always being good. That's not even considering how much more affluent Frankfort is than the other towns in the district. Since the schools split in 2001, LWC has won once (2001). East has won 16+ meetings (there is at least one playoff meeting in there). What might change that is the fact that Mokena now attends LWC. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) Yeah I'm sure DiCaro would have stopped tweeting 100 times a day if it was someone on the Hawks and not Russell. So what? QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) How Ovechkin is still ringless is beyond me. The Penguins

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 09:15 PM) Someone told her to shut up, it's a poorly kept secret. The fact the Score is their broadcast partner has caused a few stories to be underplayed. There just hasn't been a lot to report

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 09:52 AM) In summation, Trubisky looks decent, the Bears are still crap. I'm quite pleased with Trubisky seeing as he has no offensive weapons and was playing that Vikings defense. His accuracy is as advertised. The rookie mistakes can be cleared up. So far, so good.

What do you take from the 2017 season?

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 07:12 PM) The Sox have been that way for quite some time. They just seem to miss on position players. Maybe position players are more valued now than pitchers. Good to see the Sox going more for position players. I think the Sox are thought of that way, but if they really had system pitching depth we would be in the position we are now. The fact is, Kenny Williams drafted a guy in Sale who didn't need to be on the farm at all (He was in relief that same year IIRC). If this org were ever loaded with pitching depth, we would have moved some of it for MLB talent. That never materialized. Good on Hahn et al for replenishing the pitching in the minors. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 04:31 PM) It tells you something, and you don't have to be that smart to understand what and how it can be used. We're all waiting for you to tell us what is evident to you yet the rest of baseball has long discarded. What does it tell you about a pitcher that isn't better explained by advanced value statistics? QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) In the information age, I highly doubt any teams are eliminating bits of information. You're really trying to save pitching wins when it is clear no one uses them any longer. You aren't even justifying W-L existence anymore. They have no justification. It's pretty ridiculous that someone as intelligent as you who has watched Quintana's entire career would put any credence into pitching wins and losses. I genuinely think you're a smart guy, but you're better than this.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 09:39 AM) The pendulum has swung WAY too far here. While it isn't the most important stat, if you are getting a high number of wins it means you are pitching well enough to give your team a chance to win on a regular basis, while you can get some statistical flukes built into that such as the year Nolan Ryan led the league in ERA, but went 8-16, it is usually a pretty good indicator that a pitcher is doing two things. They are not giving up a lot of runs, and they are pitching relatively late into games. Last I checked, those are two pretty good things to get out of your starting pitcher on a regular basis. It isn't an important stat at all. It doesn't tell you anything. That's an extreme example, but a player like Q is the poster child of why wins are a bad stat. They don't tell you anything.

Jesus, guys. He just didn't have it. It's not about "playoff baseball". It's a bad start in one game against a high powered offense.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 09:46 PM) The sox are in trouble then. I don't think they will spend spend 155 mil on a pitcher like the cubs did for Lester. I wouldn't worry about that too much. Sox have a deeper pitching farm than the Cubs have had since Theo took over. They will be in the market for a starter in "win now" time, but that's not a big concern right now. The one thing I would be concerned about is the White Sox ability to keep their pitchers longer term. You're probably not going to get very many Sale/Q type deals anymore. If Arrieta gets a boatload of money this offseason, expect it to get harder and harder to sign pitchers to extensions. -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) Sale has not beaten the Yankees yet this year. Some have been no decisions but some players have that kind of luck. Pitching wins are trash. Who gives a crap about them?

QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 8, 2017 -> 01:21 AM) how huge is it for this team having Saad back?!? Really sucks not having Hossa...but having Saad...and a seemingly rejuvenated Sharp is really nice. Young guys have been skating very well too... It was worth getting Toews Saad even if it cost Kane a line mate. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 8, 2017 -> 01:39 AM) Well this is absolutely horse s***. Exactly. If women were the same size and weight and strength as men, there would be women playing now. Women are as capable as men to figure out a route tree.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) He wasn't half bad until he took on that Score mentality of a professional troll. If he dropped that act, he wouldn't be half bad. I think that's why i enjoy Spiegel and Parkins so much. They aren't super trolls by any stretch. I feel like Bernstein is the only super-troll left, although his opinions are often well thought out.
