QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 05:53 PM) For this team to be in contention for the #1 pick, that likely means winning 50 some games. It's hard to believe that any of the assets we'd be looking to trade outside of Quintana, and perhaps Jones and Robertson would have any value in that scenario. Getting meaningful assets for Frazier, Melky and onwards down the roster is going to be very important to progress this rebuild in any significant manner. That seems like a reasonable hypothesis, but depending on when we trade these assets, we may lose a lot more games after. Also, we will probably be worse next year and get another high pick.

QUOTE (AJUribe @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 11:45 PM) I've heard whispers he may be available by the trade deadline. From my sources losing the first two starts have tempered interests in a few possibly contending team. Teams that were interested do want to acquire the southpaw from southern hemisphere and are now quietly rooting for the young man to have an inflated era in the hopes they can somehow get a better deal. Basically Q is going to be awful for us because it is simply impossible for him to care when he knows he's getting traded and it completely effects his entire psyche. Hahn's a ballbreaker and l think he'd rather sit on Q before taking a penny less than his preseason asking price. Dude. He's a professional baseball player. He can handle it.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 05:20 PM) Give him a chance He has had more than enough chances. He can't outhit the way he plays right field and I'll take Abreu at DH first.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 03:36 AM) A lot of people liked the team last year at this time. Just look how it turned out.... Right. They're playing okay, but there is nothing going on to indicate that the Sox should change direction
-
QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 09:06 PM) Charlotte vs. the Sox...who wins? The White Sox organization. We're very early in the rebuild process, but Charlotte's play is currently very encouraging. I would expect the Knights to be good for a while as we cycle in new young talent
-
QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 05:20 PM) With this game Avi bought himself another 200 ABs this season. If we're lucky, a lot of them will be for another team.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) Why would anyone be b****ing about Avi now? Yes, he will probably go back to what he was, but he is showing everyone right now why they keep him around. His talent is immense. He's pyrite. If we're lucky, teams will fall for it long enough that we can throw him in as a sweetener.

NCAA basketball thread 2017-18

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) I can't even pretend to care about that one. Obviously would have loved to have Tilmon come but Pickett was really only offered for his connection to Goodwin and Tilmon. Agreed. I just couldn't care less at this point. No one should expect Illinois to be all that good this year. As long as they are a better coached team, Underwood gets at least a B. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 08:43 PM) Average below .250. Not looking like a first round pick. Hashtag stays because it's funny

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 09:32 PM) Probably Buxton because Saladino would be a pretty darned solid SS...but we don't have a game-changing outfielder other than Basabe. If you guaranteed Robert was coming on board, would have to rethink it. Buxton has certainly had longer periods of flailing away offensively...but the huge 30/30 potential and more walks. That said, Anderson has the quickest hands on the team and should be a 15-18 homer guy pretty consistently. Anderson has yet to fail. I call it a wash. I like Saladino, but he's a utility player on a good team.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 09:25 PM) That and always deferring to Stone and asking him to explain things even non-pitchers should be able to grasp. Feels like he is trying too hard to teach a community college class on baseball for dummies that everyone's auditing. But that seems a lot more fixable than "You know Stoney, this situation reminds me of the time..." followed by a story that no one under 50 can relate to. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 09:25 PM) Yawn. Wrong. Meh, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but significantly more relevant people (who understand broadcasting) share my opinion. Your problem with Benetti is he is new. That's fine, he has room to improve. Hawk has been on the downward swing since we missed the playoffs in 2006.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 09:22 PM) Benetti is very mediocre. He has been a little too silly and needs to focus on baseball, but Hawk is bad by comparison. Where Benetti makes a dumb joke, Hawk makes an incorrect or unprovable statement. Hawk phoned it in a long time ago.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 09:19 PM) To be fair, it's a lot of the same players that have been bad on defense for a while That and a bunch of temp bad players
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 09:14 PM) Ive heard a few others that are brutal It's like you guys don't actually listen to hawk. If any other broadcaster said something along the lines of "Latins aren't funny", they would be fired immediately. You can tell Hawk is done and has been and you can also tell Stone hates working with him. He makes everything worse.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 09:13 PM) Lol no QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 09:14 PM) Not by a long shot. Yup. They're dead last. Chicago (Away) is dead last. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2016-broadc...-final-results/
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 08:55 PM) Maybe it's just me but I cant watch the Sox broadcast until Hawk gets back. Hawk and Stone are easily the worst broadcast team in baseball. Do they raise your self esteem or something?
-
Anderson robbed. All good though if he keeps making that kind of contact.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 08:37 PM) "The odds are long, but here we go. Jose Quintana does his usual thing. James Shields suddenly starts pitching like the James Shields of at least 2014. Derek Holland makes 30 starts and has that one big year that's maybe buried deep inside him. Miguel Gonzalez is solid. Carlos Rodon suddenly turns into Steve Carlton, with the best slider in the game. Then Yoan Moncada comes up in June and is an immediate star. Boom. Print your playoff tickets." For Greg's optimism club. Yes, Moncada walks a lot more than expected, to an earlier point. I'm still solidly on the TankforBeer train. But weird stuff happens. Kris Bryant now has the longest hitless streak to start a season for a reigning MVP.
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 08:29 PM) Saladino > Frazier I meant in the batting order. I guess the question is does Moncada walk?
-
Can we only bat?
-
Frazier screwed up. Thank god the catcher was slow
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) Moncada has another single...think that's 7 Mid may can't come soon enough. Can you imagine swapping him with Saladino?
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 08:14 PM) There is zero reason to get worked up about Avi being here this year. This. Once the rebuild started, old signings didn't matter. The whole previous effort was deemed a mistake
-
What the heck is going on?
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 07:58 PM) I mean I dont know how much keeping in AAA beyond that will actually help him. Well said. It's mutually beneficial.
