  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) Looked real bad over the weekend in Milwaukee. Seems he's just hoping to make contact and has no confidence in his swing If TA is bad and Moncada struggles hitting at the Major league level, Steverson is in trouble, i think
  2. "So I know science gets a bad rap in some circles" lol Benetti
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) If you are watching the White Sox, you are paying for MiLB quality at MLB prices. A ton of good teams have done this in the recent past.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) Welcome to what everyone is wishing for. For those who wanted it, they better keep watching and supporting the team. Your way sucked. Go watch some MiLB if you're upset. The Charlotte Knights have the most top 100 prospects of any team in the minors
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 03:37 PM) Ok, the Garcia baby announcement thing is probably the happiest thing that will happen in our ballpark in 2017. That was really cute.
  6. Verlander is coming back out. Might want to save him up 4 runs
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) It's going to be interesting what the consensus is on the state of the rebuild on August 1st. It will certainly be easy to find the stupid people. We're better than this. A rebuild takes years.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) Rebuilding is the right move. Keep saying it. Speaking of things that got old fast: Watching Adam Dunn, Adam LaRoche, Avisail Garcia, Alexei Ramirez, Gordon Beckham, Nick Swisher, Jeff Samardjia, Jake Peavy, and countless other people I can hardly remember anymore grossly underperform for a decade. This is the right thing. It sucks, but it's the right thing.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 03:27 PM) I couldn't believe how huge Petricka is in person. I literally ran into him at Soxfest. He is gigantic. Well the Astros drew a 0 rating one game during their rebuild. Now they're good. So there's that.
  10. QUOTE (Scoots @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) I think the toughest thing for me will be the amount of time the Sox get runners in scoring position but dont get them in. Currently, the Sox have more hits in the game than the tigers do, yet the tigers are leading by 4 runs. Situations like that happened oh too often last year, and the year before. The back end of the lineup is just horrible, but that's mostly by design.
  11. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) It's going to be a really long year, isn't it? It's for the best. You hear stories from Theo Epstein talking about watching Cubs prospects do amazing things in the press box, cheering like crazy, and then having to go down to a press conference and put on a long face. Yeah, it's going to be long, but it's building towards something better.
  12. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) I think the same can be said for Abreu, Frazier and Robertson's value to a lesser extent... its funny I look around on opening day literally rooting for contending teams to have bullpen meltdowns in hopes they will make a run for Robertson or jones That feels like an inevitability. He will get moved.
  13. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 01:47 PM) This season is already going to suck, but it's going to be extremely bad if Quintana ends up sucking and destroying his trade value. It would take more than a couple of bad innings to destroy Q's value. And now he's getting lit up. Yuck
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) I think we do much better in picking say 10th with 75 wins, but getting some decent value for the veterans versus winning 55/60 games, and getting nothing for guys like Frazier/Cabrera/Garcia/Robertson etc while getting the #1 pick. In the first scenario we are able to add many players to our farm system. It becomes deeper, richer and more diverse, versus adding a minimal amount in trades, but moving up the draft boards. That's certainly true. I haven't thought much of it, but the White Sox might not be in the hypothetical "Bottom" of a rebuild. We talk about how we might only win 65 games this year, but the reality is if we maximize value of our current roster and move them, we might get a 10th-type pick. At that point, the minors might be really stacked, but the major league team might still not be very good the following year. Then we're talking about the bottom of a real rebuild where the draft pick could potentially be higher. If this is a multi-year rebuild, that is certainly possible.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) The difference is that you get to upgrade one player, versus bringing in a whole package of players. For example if Q bombs this year, and directly contributes to our 2017 level of suck, maybe we can move up from say the #5 pick to the #1 pick. Or we could get a huge package of players for Q in addition to getting the #5 pick in the draft. I think the problem is we can't be sure that even without Q we're bad enough to get the #1 pick. I would much rather get more high level prospects in exchange for a lower draft slot.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 11:57 AM) In the Chris Sale deal we got a Kris Bryant potential level of player in Moncada, as well as Kopech and Basabe. If a draft were to occur today, all three would be first round picks based on their ceilings. Kopech would be a top 5 pick at lowest. I hope you're right. I don't think any one of those guys has to be Kris Bryant good (No player has had a better first two seasons statistically) to bear out. If Moncada is 80% what Kris Bryant is and Kopech meets our expectation, we did great in the Sale trade.
  17. Hopefully a good game for Q. Gotta up that value.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 08:11 PM) The S8's hardware looks great. I contemplated ordering one. Then I remembered Samsung's crap software goes to a crawl after a few months like Windows Vista. I hope Samsung at least pioneered the industry for new screen technology and design. Because the S8 is a gorgeous piece of hardware. Android rots bad enough without bloatware. Samsung still has the least forgivable software lag. Add to that the ridiculously high price. Android folks who want a phone as good should order themselves a OnePlus 3T and use the extra $300 for something else.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 07:12 AM) The line up might actually produce more runs later in the season with the young guys + Abreu if the Sox keep him around for Moncada's sake. Ideally the Sox could move Q, Shields and Gonzalez but then who the hell starts ? The Rodon situation doesn't feel right, like it's a precursor to a larger injury. Sox might want to sign Peavy or Fister or Edwin Jackson or check into the remaining free agent starters. I think they need another guy to eat innings when Covey , Shields and Gonzalez all bomb. They will wreck their bullpen arms. Yeah, the Sox will find someone to pitch, but we're not going to like it. On the bright side, this has a chance to be the worst season of it. At least Moncada might be exciting.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 08:42 AM) They played game 2 of the 2005 WS in far worse conditions. I wonder why this is...
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 08:22 AM) For a rebuilding team, the Sox have very few young players. Anderson is obviously the big one, but Narvaez and May are probably long shots to ever be part of the future core. Saladino is hardly a youngster and the pitching staff other than Covey, who seems like an organizational arm at best, are veterans. The organization has long been lacking positional talent. They're kind of stuck with what they have at the Major League level. We're so early in this rebuild that the goal is to have players play well enough to grow their value for potential trades. On one hand, having some seriously valuable pieces can certainly jumpstart your rebuild. On the other, it feels like we're just so far away from the "competitive" White Sox.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 09:32 PM) It's all uphill from here! Bout time to start our first beer run.
  23. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 09:21 PM) They should totally bring back the vest. I think the Rockies are the only team that still wears them. It says a lot that the Rockies and the White Sox have the same look and the Rockies haven't really changed their home whites since their creation. Such an awesome look.
  24. Jeremiah Tilmon has announced he will still attend Illinois. Big keep for Underwood.
