Anyone have experience in luxury watches and/or handbags? I’ve got a bit of unexpected cash coming in shortly, and I think I’d like to get myself a TAG Heuer and the wife a Louis Vuitton or Prada bag. Keep it around $4-5K total.

For mine, I really like the Formula 1 Series and I much prefer an automatic at that dollar amount. I have also considered an Aquaracer. Any other brands or models I should consider? Frederique Constantin has some interesting ones in my range but I don’t know much about them.

I used to own a Formula 1 (quartz) but I now have an Aquaracer. The Aquaracer is definitely better quality IMHO. The automatic movement is definitely the way to go so it will last forever. If you can afford the ceramic bezel, get it.

If you're open to non-TAG models, I strongly recommend looking for an Omega Seamaster or Speedmaster. There are some good ones which can be had for $2000 with guaranteed legitimacy.  Then I would recommend you find an Omega boutique (they have them everywhere) and have them give the full service. They'll replace the gaskets, clean it out, make it look like brand new, and then you'll get it back. For about $2500 you have a rehabilitated watch good as new.

I know nothing about Prada bags or LV, but if you buy a TAG and a LV bag, you'll be writing a big ole check to the same company (LVMH).

It is against the rules; I don't know why people keep saying otherwise.

It is defined ambiguously so, in terms of contract law, the arbiter has to side with the ownership side because there are no defined terms to determine "readiness." This was an oversight by the MLBPA, but it doesn't mean it should give ownership the right to act in bad faith.

It's similar to the players escaping punishment with the sign stealing situation; it "technically" was not against the rules for the players because it wasn't agreed upon within the CBA. It was very obviously wrong, though.

I agree the Sox have treated some young guys well - although some would say the Sox are leveraging their exploitation to get players to sign extensions - but that doesn't excuse them manipulating a system in bad faith against Madrigal. Young players should be paid more in general.

It's not against the rules, period. If the rules are poorly defined, the parameters for breaking them are flawed and cannot truly be broken. Period.

I disagree with the bolded. I don't think that 7th year really matters for someone like Madrigal who likely won't figure to receive a huge payday in FA like Robert or Jimenez would

Meh, it's bad business to to sacrifice a year of control for 7 games.

Still think my man Madrigal will be #9 in the lineup on OD.

I think there's a less than 10% chance that happens. They would have to agree to a contract extension. Madrigal is a good player but he's not Robert and the Sox are less likely to commit to him right now.

Yeah. I'm not really sure why this has gotten so much more attention than the Patriots cheating infractions. It may be because the MLB actually did something about it where the NFL barely did anything.

It's far more egregious than what the patriots did. The Astros had real time, full time pitch tipping. It's far worse than anything the Patriots did.

1 in 2009, when he came back. It’s on baseball-reference if want to look at the history. Unfortunately they only have players, not coaches numbers.

I do remember that. Super weird.

This is probably a stupid assumption, but wouldn’t mass under reporting likely mean that the true mortality rate is much lower (as I presume those who pass away get checked more thoroughly for the actual virus)?

I write this as there is one case in my city and here I am coming down with a fever and chills (thanks to my kiddos who repaid all my kindness for taking care of them and staying up late with them by infecting me haha)

Not a stupid assumption. That's generally considered accurate. The cases are more likely to be underreported, leading to a higher overall mortality estimate.

However, it's early so we don't know a lot yet.

Destihl is amazing.  The joint and the food. Great service and more like a fine dining experience than the usual brewery with food service.

Another great place to try here in the suburbs with great beer and food is More Brewery in Villa Park, although the awesome head brewer left to start Phase Three.

Agreed on this. There's a place in Austin that sells a ton of Destihl. Good stuff.

  9. I'll start by saying I don't drink a lot of beer. I am much more of a wine person. I basically only drink beer on vacation, and when I do, I drink mostly Belgians and preferably Tripels.

Pollyanna Bourbon Barrel-Aged Fun Size (Lemont, IL)

    Adelberts Tripel B (Austin, TX)

Austin Eastciders Extra Brut (cheating, but a great cider - Austin, TX)

    Deschutes Obsidian Stout (Portland, OR)

    Delirium Tremens (Belgium)

Oud Beersel Oude Kriek Vieille (Belgium)

    Jambe-de-Bois Belgian Revolution Triple (Belgium)
