QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 08:59 PM) I think they might tag Houston, or has he signed an extension? He got his deal

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 08:26 PM) Yes. Something tells me Berry gets tagged, but Smith would be a good signing QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 08:34 PM) Or is he just not that good? Or maybe the Bengals aren't that good? Every year people throw the blame on Dalton for losing in the playoffs, yet now with him out, they still aren't playing well

Sorry about last night. My longer post about the Pens and Hawks is good enough considering the circumstances. I'm pretty proud of myself actually

TVR too sorry about bad grammar lots to drunk

You watch the Pens and Hawks and wonder how the Hawks have been able to be consistently great despite two major tear downs of their roster. Both teams have invested a lot into their core group, but the Hawks have been able to add guys like Panarin, Teravainen, Gustafsson, Danault, etc while Pittsburgh hasn't. The names that come to mind for Pittsburgh are Suter, Bennett and Staal, 3 guys who were supposed to be the next wave but they never did what they were supposed to.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) There were 6-6 and finished 6-10. Their drafts have been good (Jason Licht makes the picks) but Lovie runs free agency, the 53, and has personnel control. Here is why he got fired: Michael Johnson, Alterraun Verner, Dane Fletcher, Bruce Carter, Sterling Moore, Henry Melton, Tim jennings, Chris Conte, and Major Wright. Hitching your wagon to bad football players usually ends up being your demise. Don't forget Anthony Collins QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) I dont know if I would want to jump into a job with Glass Bradford as my QB, but Gase is supposedly the whisperer Isn't Bradford a UFA?

As long as Tampa loses, the Bears will pick 11th

QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 10:07 AM) Coming out strong with hot takes early in 2016, I'll give you credit for that. He's 39 games into an eight year deal. And is 27. And by many is considered a Top 3 player in the NHL given his intangibles. And has consistently showed up during the playoffs. I can keep going, but it doesn't seem necessary. Jim Nill didn't give out the contract so therefore it's a bad one

Between the Cespedes & Gordon rumors as well as this thread, I just want to say that there has been some great discussion in this forum of late.

Kane has more 3 point games than he does 0 point games. What a hockey player

Alabama is really good. Cook has looked horrendous. 31-0. -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) Adam Gase is reportedly expected to leave the Bears to become a head coach, as he figures to have several offers But the question is: why? The Bears are a middle of the pack offense Not many jobs will be open and I'd much rather have Shula, Payton or Hue Jackson. Hell, I don't even think I'd want him over Fangio

RT @JonHeymanCBS: chisox are at least weighing yoenis cespedes & alex gordon to fill an outfield spot @Ken_Rosenthal & @JesseSanchezMLB on it

The Hawks haven't scored a goal since December 20.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 27, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Lovie have a lot of personnel pull? I was going to ask the same. He's had 2 drafts and 2 FA periods now. What's the issue?

QUOTE (zenryan @ Dec 27, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) Didn't realize it was Lovie who fumbled twice, threw the stupid INT that took away 3 points and grabbed the face mask to take away a turnover. Besides Kwon Alexander, the Bucs have neglected the defensive side of the ball in the last two drafts. They've fixed the OL, drafted a franchise QB, drafted Evans and Simms. ASJ might be a player if he stays healthy. Now Sign a WR and fix the defense through the draft and keep building. No but it was Lovie's defense that gave up 26 to Bellamy, Mariani and Royal at WR.
-
f*** the draft slot. Pace found Goldman, Amos, and Langford. If White & Grasu work out, that is one of the best drafts you'll see as most GM's are lucky to get 2 pieces in a draft. This could be 5. If the Bears win next week, they *could* pick 20th. I hope not, but you could get a guy like Reggie Ragland or another impactful player

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 26, 2015 -> 08:42 AM) I think DE and ILB could very well be addressed during free agency. Former Broncos Derek Wolfe, Malik Jackson, Danny Trevathan could possibly all come over and play with Fox. I have a feeling 2 of the 3 will. As for TE, I think they'll trade or cut Bennett (similar to Marshall last year), and then go after Dwayne Allen. When healthy, a Jeffery, White, Royal, Wilson, Allen, Miller receiving corp is really really good. I'd be good with that. Jackson has improved year by year and will cost more than Wolfe, but he's the better player. I don't think Trevathan is enough help at ILB.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) Jaylon Smith as well. Vernon Hargraves III. I may be in the minority here but while Smith is athletic as hell, I don't believe he's great right now. He's a project. Myles Jack, while smaller, is the much better player *right now* and he would immediately become one of the best cover LB's in the NFL as soon as he's drafted; he's that good. Sign Trevathan and no TE down the field or WR crossing route is an option for opposing QB's. I do like Hargreaves, but he's an option for me at 9-12. If you're picking 6th, you better get someone who's not only good but fills a need. Porter has played well and Fuller has been a top CB in football since week 1. I think the best bet is to extend Porter and sign a guy like Casey Heyward to play NB. Chicago's holes on D right now are FS, DE and ILB. Jack, DeForest Buckner, and Ramsey have to be the pick if they're there (unless Tunsil falls).
-
I looked at the teams ahead of the Bears in terms of draft order & their last 2 games. If the Bears lose out and the teams ahead of them finish as I project, the Bears *could* be picking 6th and with Bosa/Lynch/Tunsil/Goff almost assuredly going top 4, you have to think there's a good chance Ramsey is there at 6.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) Yes. The "organization mishandling" of the Hossa deal was the excuse the Blackhawks needed to fire Dale Tallon and put in Stan Bowman (good move). The Campbell contract was early on in McDonough's tenure and everyone knew it was a bad deal. Yes my bad. Campbell was in 2008, Bowman became GM in 2009. My bad
-
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) Stan has won two cups, no small feat. However, Nill started with a LOT less. The Blackhawks were going to be good, plain and simple. Nill has taken a team that had nothing and added Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza, and Patrick Sharp (and the Blackhawks' top defensive prospect) and has created a team that actually runs four deep. Jim Nill did the Hockey equivalent of trading for Jonathan Toews entering his prime. The Seguin trade will go down as the best in Stars franchise history at the end of Seguin's career. Regarding defense, maybe, except it turns out John Klingberg is a stud, so one could say "maybe we shouldn't move for defense if we have this stud and having Hemsky will make Spezza more comfortable. By the way, Spezza is great. He was slow to start last season, but he is certainly worth the garbage Nill through away. He has more points than Toews and dominated the faceoff last night. That sounds an awful lot like making excuses. Dallas was on a second game of a back to back and were a step slower than they normally are. Spezza is not great. He hasn't had more than 80 points since 2009. If Spezza needs Ales f***ing Hemsky to make him feel better, he's a pu**y. Klingberg is a great offensive defenseman. If he can improve defensively, that's a great move by Nill. Bowman has 3 Cups. While Tallon did a lot of the 2010 work, he also f***ed Bowman over with the Barker and Byfuglien deals. Bowman's signings of Hossa and Campbell those years put them over the top. The Seguin trade was a great one, there is no doubting that. I also wouldn't compare him to Toews. It's not an excuse. It was a bigger game for the Stars. Face it. Do I think Dallas is really good? Yeah obviously, but I'm not going to bet the Stars if they meet in the playoffs.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) how many people forgot, sharp had to go, b/c of the keith's marriage and the divorce. it had nothing to do with salary and salary cap. ref bickell stan screwed up that neg on a trade at the draft as well. mention on tsn hockey. geeze No, Sharp was traded because of salary cap reasons. The Hawks won a cup last year with the Keith/Sharp nonsense. When these players get on the ice/field/court, it doesn't matter anymore.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 07:56 AM) Bowman was out negotiated by a better GM. How can you say Nill is a better GM than Bowman? Bowman has torn down a great team twice and won 3 cups. He tore down 2010's team and won again in 2013. He tore down 2013's team and won again 2 years later. He has added guys like Shaw, Hjalmarsson, Oduya & Saad (originally), Panarin, Anisimov, etc. What has Nill done exactly? Jim Nill has done literally nothing to prove he's a top 3 NHL GM. He dealt for Spezza and he's pretty underwhelming. Sharp was average last year and like Steve said, he's on pace to do better but on a loaded offensive team. If Nill was such a bright mind, he would have acquired more defense, not bums like Ales Hemsky. Last night was just as I predicted- the Hawks get blown out and people overreact. This was a statement game for Dallas. I'm sure the Hawks really give a s*** that they lost a game in mid-December to the Dallas Stars. Meanwhile this was the biggest game for the Stars in a long time.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) I'm no mathematician, i never mentioned anything about per and I couldn't break it down. All I know is Leonard has been a far better player on a far better team for his career, and when I read about Leonard functioning within the Spurs he gets nothing but high praise. Butler had a great year last year and has done nothing but improve since he got into the NBA, but Leonard is next level when I watch them play, he knows his role on his team and excels within his team. But thanks for calling me to the carpet, you can explain per if you would like to. And that's find. Don't explain PER, but don't just say what everyone else did. "Butler's not as good as Leonard." Four others said it. Why do you have to?
