Certainly it would be nice to sign Harper. I know Rabbit said he doesn't expect it to happen, what I don't quite understand is why would they get involved even "in secret" if they can't or won't get past 300 million guaranteed? We know Boras won't sign for anything less than Manny. Do they think Bryce really doesn't want Philly bad enough to take 315 or something from them?

I use this site and Twitter to get rumors most of the time. Maybe they thought his price would be low? Maybe if he is a Boras guy they thought of a package deal to try and help get Bryce? I get that until the Sox land him we should all be skeptical that it will happen, I just don't think that one thing means a lot.

My post didn't go through. My point more or less was I don't get how Moustakas going back to the Brewers means Manny is going to the Padres. If he got 1 year and 10 million from the Brewers, why would the Padres a team who seems to be a year or two away sign him?

Are the Padres a few years away even if they land Manny like the Sox? If so, why would they feel compelled to sign Moustakas either way? I could see the Phillies grabbing him as a back up option if they still needed someone at 3rd. You had the tweet earlier about Manny and the Yankees as well and Simenotti claims talk or gut feeling he still goes to NY. Who knows what is going on. Maybe Manny does go to SD but I'm not sure Moustakas is the lynch pin.

I'm sure in this thread we've beaten every point to death but now that we're close it seems here's the main question. Are the Sox going to die on an opt out hill if the Padres are willing to give him one after 2 or 3 years? I truly cannot believe given where their payroll is, the money spent for Alonso and Jay that they are going to let money be their hill to die on. If the Padres go to 300 and we're at 260, 40 million over 7-8-9 years cannot be the deciding factor for the type of jolt Manny would give this fan base.

I looked at his feed and he made a comment about the Sox signing him to a long term deal if Bryce goes to Philly, but he also retweeted the Heyman comment about going to the West coast might be OK by him now.

You still believe they get one of these guys or has something changed for you? Seems like you've held onto the theory that they'd have to mess it up for things not to break right for them.

I have 2 kids and my wife and I both claim single 0. My wife doesn't work the same amount of hours every check so I don't know how the tax withholding changed her take-home pay. My paycheck went up 20 dollars or so per check, but as it relates to the tax return mine went up around $1000 total. I think it was we got more out of the $24,000 standard deduction for married couples vs. doing the itemized deductions. Clearly, not being able to deduct all of the local taxes, with the cap on property taxes and such made a change.

Of course. When it isn't announced in an hour we'll hear Bryce took his wife out for some pizza and wasn't able to agree to the contract over the phone, maybe when he reaches an area with better cell service they'll announce!

I'm of the opinion that he's been reporting the same thing he heard once over and over again. Hopefully he is correct of course but, it's not as if he ever expands on his belief of him coming to the Sox. I don't think he is trolling either.

Have you been watching Simonetti on YouTube? His stance the last few days has been that a New York based reporter told him he'd be surprised if the Yankees don't reach out at this point to the camps of both players and see where they stand. I took from his videos and Twitter comments that if the price is in the lower end of where the Yankees want to be they are interested, especially if the players are willing to take shorter term deals. He seems to be of the belief that both players have expressed interest in the Yankees and one might jump at an offer. Time will tell.

Do we think this is new information what he is reporting? Or is Heyman just restating what has been out prior that the Sox have been linked to him prior?

I assume Dave is speaking on it because Rosenthal tweeted about it being possible. Not sure he is coming in with more information about the trade.

There was an article about this on the Sun Times website this morning. The comments seemed to indicate it could be a team or teams not from Chicago. The article pointed out how the YES Network has MLS and one of the premier league teams. The article went on to mention at one point there was a rumor of Ricketts buying a team.

Rabbit, the tweet you had about if the Yankees are truly out. You mentioned you would be surprised if it doesn't happen by Wednesday. If it draws on past that point, does it signal the Sox are maybe being used to raise an offer elsewhere? Or that the Sox have a good enough offer and he wants to wait as long as possible for a higher offer?

How delicious if he turns out to be wrong. For now, him trolling people seems unprofessional.
