I was gonna say something similar the other day. I love it when people say things like: "I'd kill to get Colon, but only if it doesn't involve, Borchard, Honel, Crede, Almonte, Ring, Webster, Malone......." How can you get anything done that way? You can't.

I agree Mario. Something is very odd about this. For a team that loves to cry poor, they sure seem to be able to dish out money in these trades.

That's kind of why this Ortiz deal doesn't make sense. They'd be adding 2 million in salary in Konerko. At least Lee would even up with Ortiz's salary.

I don't remember him being in that Johnson deal. Because that deal happened in July of 2000, and in 2001 Williams sent him to LA for Osuna. So the O's would've had to cut him. Which I'm not so sure happened.

No. Minaya didn't mention any teams or any players. What Jason meant by the "negotiating tactics" line is, by Minaya saying he is closer to a trade, or by him saying he may not make a trade this weekend, other teams will up the ante.

He said he is closer to a deal today than he was yesterday, and that he still may not make a deal at the meetings.
