  1. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:14 AM) While it's a small factor IMO, I think having a rookie coach and GM plays into their decisions too. I think older players want a chance to win right now, and maybe they don't see that in Chicago with inexperienced management. Sucks for the Hawks, though. I think this is going to be one crazy ass NHL season. I think this season at least is gonna be like the NFL, where due to the season off, you have no clue who is going to be good.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) From a Media blog "Vacation" time.
  3. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) On the stroke around the "center fielder" text, make it black. Throwing out the photoshop lingo... awesome.
  4. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) The whole Modano fiasco was something else. I KNOW he had a better offer from Chicago and Boston both then Dallas gave him. And his f***ing wonderboy agent had to step in and be an asshole, trying to get the Stars to pay more. The deal Modano signed is front end loaded and he will make less, much less, years 4 and 5. Also, he got a signing bonus for signing today payable years 4 and 5 that won't count against the cap should he retire. Having said all this, the Hawks have to land someone bigger tomorrow, the market is starting to thin out. There's a couple of sniper wingers left, but they really needed a top flight centre, IMO. Yep, looks like the Hawks got played here. Thought they we're gonna land Modano and let some good players go by.
  5. Stars official site says they've re-inked Modano to a 5 yr deal.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) You hear they are probably landing Forsberg Kap? They did get him. Check tsn.ca for hockey news.
  7. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) They would need one more standup defenseman, IMO. Kap, TSN in Canada is the one reporting that the Hawks are in the derby for Modano, have you heard anything with that? If they can land both him and the Wall, I'm not sure how much more of a "splash" money wise they'd be able to make.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) Would the Hawks have enough for Modano and Havi? For sure.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) So we traded for Griffey? Sorta. Had a deal, but the Reds owner killed it.
  10. QUOTE(slick03 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) There is also a rumor that has Madano turning down the dallas offer, and the front runners are boston, and the hawks. Boston signed Leech. Talk is the Hawks and Boston have 4 year deals on the table worth 20 million.
  11. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) You got that right... "Watch out!!!!... Oh s***.. I think I just hit the car... " I've seen Mr. Gage in action...
  12. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 01:17 PM) Aw damnit. Prepare for two weeks of: Griffey to the White Sox? Whatever happened to the Griffey deal? Did the Sox claim Griffey? I have an old buddy at Skyline Chili that said a Reds scout was working the Sox minor leagues. Damnit. Damnit. Damnit. I'd rather have this then our world series winning managers, b****ing about Cotts only facing two batters.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) he has to go through thr AL first, am I wrong??? You could be correct, but I could've sworn you start out in whatever league you are in first.
  14. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) yanks arent going to go after him, i think their lineup is already pretty packed and there arent many open spots on their roster to put him, im not even sure where we would put him quite frankly, i like carl and id hate to bench him They'd make a spot for Griffey, but Griff has said he doesn't want a part of NY.
  15. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) You think the Cards might take a chance on Griffey? They need another OF and Walker is probably going to retire after the year. They might try, but no way he ends up there. Reds would pull him, not gonna let him go to a divison rival. The Cards aren't cheap, but I can't see them taking that contract.
  16. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) Weren't the Cards the best team in the NL? They would have been the last team in that league to make a move. Yes, but since Walker was playing for Col, he only had to get through the NL. The AL wasn't a factor. He had a no trade clause as well, so my guess would be his contract and that stopped some rivals from trying to get him. It's a weird thing.
  17. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) Waivers is a 2 day process or a 3 day process? Steve Phillips was saying during the Sunday Night game, that's it's only done during the week, no Saturday or Sunday's. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe due to the league office.
  18. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) Agreed. I know we're using boston as an example earlier in this thread, but they're not the team we'd have to worry about claiming him. The only two teams I can see putting a claim on Griffey is Us and NY. I agree. Boston doesn't have room for him on the field right now, nor do they lux tax wise. They've made it clear that they don't want much to do with that. Yanks would have first crack at him due to their record being worse than Boston, they can afford him, but I don't know what they could offer in the way of a trade.
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) How is it known that a player is placed on waivers? Is there a formal letter sent to team offices around the league? is it a wire that the public can access? No. Wire made available to all teams.
  20. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) Do you think another team would block it before it reached the White Sox, or do you think it wont go down for another reason. I was in utter disbelief that Larry Walker ended up on the Cardinals last year, Im wondering if a similar situation could arise. I don't think anyone in the NL would do it. Boston or NY in the AL could. That contract is going to scare people off. Had they traded Manny, I could see it, but not right now. See with Walker, he only had to go through the NL, not many teams had a chance to grab him.
  21. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) Im still kinda confused. So Boston can claim him and then if a trade doesn't get worked out...they can say forget it and then nobody gets him??? or is it if a trade doesn't get worked out either way Boston gets griffey and has to take on his whole contract? If Boston claims him, they can work out a trade with the Reds. If they cannot agree to a trade, and the Reds choose they can pay the waiver fee which is $100,000 or whatever it is, and just take Griffey. If neither of the above we're to happen then it's dead. He's stuck in Cin, till the end of the season.
  22. Lets try to bring people up to speed on how waivers work. Lets say the Reds put Griffey on waivers. It goes in order from worst record to best record. However, since he plays in the NL, he's gotta clear the whole NL , then worst to best in the AL. For the sake of discussion, lets just say he made it past the NL, and Boston put in a claim on him. At this point the Reds have 3 options. 1) They can bluff and pull him back 2) Flat out sell him to Boston for a fee 3) Attempt to work out a trade Now, lets say they decline 1 and 2, and try to work out a trade and they can't. Then it's all over. Once he's been claimed, the only teams he could play for are Reds or Red Sox.
  23. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) rowand called this? if you've ever seen him in gamethreads, he can't even call the fact that konerko sucks LOL!!!
