Terrible call #2

Terrible start for the officials. We didn’t even have to wait very long

KC 21-19 Their win is overshadowed by several terrible, late 4th quarter officiating calls which is the final push for the NFL to expand instant reply and change what is allowed to be challenged. I’m not even thinking of the “NFL is rigged for KC” conspiracy. It’s a very difficult sport to officiate, and during a close game on the big stage everything will be magnified. All anyone wants (unless on the winning side of the call) is the right decision. Maybe the NFL needs a national embarrassment to get it right in the long run

If Commanders make it to the Super Bowl, Poles has to be fired. Daniels already has two road playoff wins as a rookie. You cannot survive all the blunders (failed coaches, terrible roster construction, questionable drafts), then pass on the only rookie QB in league history to bring his team to a superbowl. Fair or not, it’s just one too many screw ups to endure. But hey….:maybe he’ll get the next HC right??

Everything is working for Washington. Wide open throw after wide open throw.

What bothers me is everything is set up to have some oversight in the coaching search. Great, now what about the actual football operations? We don’t trust Poles to select a coach, but we trust him to build a team? If all these steps have to be put in place, there’s no point in keeping him.

It really puts the whole coaching search in perspective for me, too. Maybe they really had no choice but to interview everyone. Whose opinion in the organization would you trust to limit the field to 3-5 names?

Great article. That agent connection has been getting a lot of play on local sports radio stations recently. Especially while this coaching search is underway. It’s good to see national exposure on this issue It makes me wonder whether Warren is one of the good guys in all of this. Someone who is overseeing the search to make sure the best candidate is selected, and agent representation is not a factor.

There’s bound to be a very interesting article written on this whole experience in a couple weeks/months. I really wonder if the Bears have received back channel news that Johnson will select the Raiders. Even with their organizational dysfunction, and equally tough division, Johnson will be given patience (for atleast a couple years). Expectations will be low and he can have a lot more input in roster construction than Chicago. It’s still a huge indictment on the Bears. I’d be willing to bet the number one issue is salary. LV will guarantee him more. Then everything else listed above adds to the decision.

If I was Johnson, and really wanted to screw with the Bears on the way out of Detroit, I’d string them along as long as possible before selecting another team. How long can the Bears wait? Especially the further along Detroit moves in the playoffs. Raiders may be the choice by default.

It was definitely easier to overlook passing on Stroud because of The Haul. Even after his playoff success and great rookie season, we had the #1 pick and a supposed generational talent to look forward to. On top of Moore, Wright, Stevenson and the 2025 2nd round Carolina pick. But, if Williams doesn’t work out, and Daniels/Stroud continue on their path, it is a generational fuckup to miss out on two great QBs with the #1 pick.

I should have said, I’m jealous of their success (Jayden/Kliff) because Daniel’s is schemed to perfection. Washington made all the right moves. Every successful moment of Daniel’s is another realization we may have again selected the wrong QB. I know all the responses in play here (ie, “Daniels would not have succeeded here,” “QB development is not linear, look at Stroud and Young!,” “Let’s wait a couple years.” But you guys feel it too. I know you do, we’re watching the same games. You’re trying to suppress it, give all the excuses - but it’s a very real possibility. Where I feel negatively towards Washington as a team is they have been extremely lucky. So now we have to endure the Jayden Daniels magical run stories, all the while looking inward at our mess of an organization.

I said it last week against Philly, and it’s true again with Tampa — there is no team luckier than Washington. I’m definitely rooting for Detroit to stomp on their throats next week.

I think what annoys me so much watching Daniels is he literally being schemed to perfection. Kings bury is taking a mid tier QB and creating a situation where it very easy to succeed. Wide open targets alllll game. It’s unreal. A play breaks down, oh here’s Mclaurin sitting there. Quick throw, wide open receiver. Brown sitting by himself in the end zone, TD. Not to mention the offensive holds which are ignored nearly half the plays. He is already getting Mahomes treatment.

The classic Bears response is to over correct. “We were criticized for not expanding the search when selecting a HC. So here’s 17 names. No one can say we didn’t try!” I wonder how much the “Tomlin to Bears” rumors will start heating up now. He should be in the same hot seat as McCarthy

This has to be Warren’s idea. Ask all the candidates to prepare a PowerPoint presentation for their specific plan. The more graphs, the better. Is there any way this won’t be screwed up?

It will be one of those open secrets that we figure is true, but won’t know until Dan Wiederer of the Tribune confirms it after Poles is fired next season. If the cards fall that way, it’s Carroll or bust.

Another coward decision from Brown. Go for the 2 point conversion (the correct call), then after a penalty on GB that brings them to the 1yard line…..kick the extra point. He is playing like Flus, not to lose

It makes me think the #1 problem is Williams. Yes, the scheming and blocking plays a part - but how can you not create anything with the weapons he has?

So why can’t the Bears have any downfield offense? They can’t even attempt anything beyond the line of scrimmage? This just looks atrocious. It’s the final game of the season. And if you’re a coach on the Bears sideline, you have to know you’re gone. Why not try something aside from quick passes to Moore behind the line of scrimmage?

This is about the worst case scenario. Winning 14-3 and Caleb looks like garbage

Washington is like the bizarro Bears, so damn lucky.

We know how this is going to go down. Atlanta quickly scores a TD to tie, then Daniels gets to march back down the field making wide open throw after wide open throw. Then there will be an obvious penalty ignored to benefit Daniels.
