QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) 7 finals for 6 classes, welcome to college! I submitted my written final for my "Computers in Business" class already and Saturday is the computer practical. Next week I have Psychology, Accounting, Micro, Finite, and Philosophy. At this point I'm more worried about the IU-Kentucky basketball game and the fantasy football playoffs starting this week. 2 finals for 5 classes. it gets way easier as you go.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) Well I think it means that just because you went to a better school does not mean that you will get a better job. It increases your chances, your opportunities, but you can go to a lesser ranked school and still get to the places you want to be in life. I don't think anyone would disagree with this, but saying where you go to college really doesn't matter is definitely false.

QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) to be real though, unless you are getting an ivy league education, where you got your undergrad really doesn't matter unless you are going real bottom of the barrel. yeah, i really don't think so. The name on your diploma means a ton, a ton.

I really only have 2 real finals for my 5 classes this year. The other 3 are just another exam/paper. Really not gonna be a tough one this year.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) Wait a minute, am I missing a massive tuition increase at Illinois? I know out of state has to be nuts, but if you can qualify under in-state it was about 8k a semester when I graduated including room and board, which is coming up on 3 years ago. Granted it was about 6k a semester when I started, but s***, that's almost an extra 10 grand a year... tuition is around 7 or 8, but with room and board and everything else it's probably fair to come out to around 20k, everything included.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:09 PM) When did Illinois start locking in their rates? When I went it was around $4k a semester, by the time I left (2 years) it was pushin $5k. yeah, my tuition has been increasing as well. I believe the "locking in" is false.

QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:45 PM) First question that pops into my head is it super competitive in the business school? I love competition, but I've heard stories at other schools students check out all the books at the library so that the other students cant get to them. I know it sounds rediculous, but its happened at schools like U Mich (major reason why I didnt apply, plus my bro goes there and I didnt like the school at all, just a weird feeling there). Second, how are the teachers? Im guessing you start with alot of assistants teaching classes, but in general are the teachers approachable? I know the school says they are, but as a student do you find this to be true? Third, is Urbana boring? I ahve heard that from a couple of people, but I dont believe that really, but would like to know from a recent student (the people I heard it from were grads from like forever ago, and a friend saying stuff he took from being in a rural area) 1) competitive? not super ultra competitive. Econ majors (like myself) are kind of on the outside, looking in on the business school, but take all business classes, it's kind of weird. I wouldn't say it's really competitive, if you do the work in a class, you'll get a good grade. And for most classes, they're really not that difficult. But then again, I'm not a real competitive student and am usually more than happy with a B. 2) Teachers are usually very approachable. Your first couple years you'll have huge lectures twice a week, then a smaller discussion section with your TA one day a week. In those big classes, the proffesors will be harder to get to, but in all honesty, you really don't need to talk to them often. Your TA's will help you out with most of the smaller questions you'll have. 3) Well, the actual campus side of things are in champaign. That's where most of the dorms, apartments and bars are. It's a pretty normal college atmosphere, which is enjoyable. Urbana is more of the quiet, older side. Many seniors (including myself) live out here, it's cheaper and quieter. There is also a differente scene of bars in Urbana. Wow, I remember asking these same exact questions on here 4 years ago, whoops.

I'm a senior at U of I right now and I love it. The beginning of freshmen year is a little overwhelming, but if you just stay open and get involved in your dorm and stuff, you'll be fine. As said above, after the first couple years, you make your friends, move out of the dorms, get an apartment, and the lifestyle changes completely. I love the big school mentality. There's so many different things, people, etc. I'm an economics major and have taken a ton of business classes, PM me if you have any questions on that stuff.
  16. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 10:35 PM) 29 and a 4.1. Our scale grants a whole extra point for honors classes, but technically it's still out of 4.0. I'm an economics major so I know all about the business stuff. My little brother applied to U of I as well, engineering, I hope he gets in.
  17. wanted a trip to the rose bowl, but that's not happening. Probably a new ipod (mine is 4 years old) and blackhawk jersey

  23. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) Hey! I drink bourbon. Not as much as I'd like, though. Vodka is good because it mixes with anything and you can't taste it, really. I'm surprised more of the college crowd hasn't mentioned anything with Red Bull. jaegerbombs are my love.
  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) Metra has released their 2008 Program and Budget, including capital program projections. There is a little over $1M set aside in 2008 and a similar number in 2009 for the 35th Street station on the Rock Island line, which is an already-promised Congressional earmark. So the money is still there, and it looks like the station should open for 2009, as far as Metra is concerned. I don't understand why this has taken like 4 years to accomplish. The train already goes right past it, all it would have to do is stop during baseball season.
  25. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 10:47 PM) Hawk Harrelson, for when he runs to the bathroom in the 7th inning for old man poos. :lolhitting :lolhitting
