These 18k games used to be the 24k games before the season ticket holders dropped. Visually, the stadium looks slightly less full than usual but not as drastic as those #s seem to suggest.

This has absolutely been the best golf investment I've made so far. If you have a backyard - get it. http://theropeit.com/

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) Sounds strange, but I am more likely to go on a whim if I know it will be empty. Me too. If it's an important game (playoff/blackout, etc), then I want a full house. However, if it's an average regular season game I know I'll enjoy myself alot more if its not as crowded. Less lines, less traffic and less drunken idiots yelling the whole game. I'm not a patient man.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 8, 2014 -> 09:53 AM) edit: this is a Chicago infrastructure problem and there's not really anything the Sox could do about it. They do have the Pace shuttles, but those all leave Bolingbrook at 4:15 or Burr Ridge at 4:45. Yep. For a stadium that's next to a highway, it's really hard to drive to unless you're coming from the south due to the eisenhower/circle/55 merge.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 8, 2014 -> 09:48 AM) Can't you just take the Metra to downtown then walk a few blocks to the Red or Green Line? That's what I do coming from near O'Hare and it's pretty simple. Or just switch to the Rock Island Metra? That's like a 2 hour process. For a weekday game, that's just not feasible.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 8, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) I don't want to see it, but I really think a suburban stadium would have the team drawing 35,000 a game. Perhaps somewhere in Schaumburg close to all the trains and expressways, is there land near Arlington Park? I've been saying this for awhile. It's about time for the sox to concede the city/tourists to the Cubs and focus hard on families in the suburbs. They'd kill out there.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 8, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) They can say 'tickets start at $7' all they want, but if I am going to the game, I want to SEE and enjoy the game, not get nosebleeds and a workout hiking up to my seat. I haven't had to buy tickets for a few years, so imagine my shock when we went to buy tickets for this Saturday against the Diamondbacks. They want $72 for lower bowl between 3rd and outfield wall. Go a little closer to the wall and it drops to $52. Bleachers $35. Still going, but to my cheap-ass it is pretty steep. The upper deck is not bad, if you were that cheap - you'd deal with it. Upper Deck behind the plate are some of the best seats in the house.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ May 8, 2014 -> 01:44 AM) Honestly, I'd rather see us play Arizona than to see us play the Cubs. Better opponent and more importantly, less obnoxious fans around you. I'm at this point as well w/ the Crosstown series. It's more expensive and you have to deal with way more idiots, no thanks.

I was an xbox 360 owner and was dying to play the show, it was my main reason for picking up a ps4 this time around. I absolutely cannot wait to get off work and fire this bad boy up. I haven't played a quality MLB game since MVP.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 03:04 PM) I would leave this place for Texas, Missouri, Arizona, Tennessee or Montana, but wife won't go. She MIGHT accept Missouri, but not at this moment. Missouri?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 12:28 PM) Parks and Rec, is that for real? As we really seeing a time jump for the future seasons? That was awfully sudden and left me saying "What, what??". I'm not sure how I feel about this. That was the best episode of the series and I would have been completely satisfied if that was the series finale. Now I'm concerned they won't top it next year. I think the main driver of the time skip was to get out of having another pregnancy/baby story line which they just did w/ Ann.

2014-2015 NCAA football thread
SnB replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
For shortening game length, just take out the dumb rule that stops the clock on first downs and you're there. I'd be fine if you wanted to keep that rule as the halves end, but having it for the entire game can really make the games drag. -
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 16, 2014 -> 11:34 AM) That appears true and, to me, that's ridiculous. The guy is sharp and funny. Someone they should make room for. Goff and Bernstein were the best combo. I thought for sure Goff was waiting for Boers to leave.

If this team can keep my interest until July, I'll call the "rebuilding" season a success for sure.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 01:25 AM) Where to begin looking for a big TV for a basement? What to look for? Will be used 99% of the time to watch sports. Online? In store? Brand? LED vs Plasma? Any help appreciated, there seems to be a million options. I didn't even know they made plasmas anymore. LED's look fantastic and are dirt cheap compared to a few years ago - they should work for you. I'd start w/ Amazon as a price point and then check the stores, most will price match.

I'll be in town for a work trip this week and will be catching Tuesday's game. Any recommendations for food/drink/where to sit/etc. I believe I have parking all set up, so no worries there. And yes, I totally did schedule this trip around catching a game.
-
The 2nd game is ALWAYS horrific. And it's the same for many other teams. MOST of the folks that are interested in going to the games are going to go on opening day. Most people don't go to baseball games on back to back days. The fact that it's a day game and 30 degrees didn't help.

I'll be there w/ my 5 month old and wife - good chance this is a disaster.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) You can't stream it instead? I think you're out of luck with CBS downtown. I know for a long time getting it downtown was basically impossible. That's obviously plan B, but those streams aren't exactly all that reliable.
-
Are there any tricks to get CBS on a digital antenna? We have a glorious tv at work w/ one of these, but it doesn't get CBS. Obviously this is march madness related.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 10:01 PM) Planes that have assigned seating should board back to front. At least in the normal cabin. Takes so long to board the plane because the family in row 15 has to unload all their crap up top, into the seats, then finally get in, while everyone else behind them waits. Repeat over and over and over. It's the most inefficient process. All for 5-10 minutes of boarding earlier? What's the rush? You know you have a seat, and rarely, if ever, have I seen them not be able to take everyone's carry on in the bins or in the closet. Are you guys really seeing that happen a lot? It's the funniest damn thing, every time. People rush to line up way ahead of their group being called, then bull rush to get in...all to sit there and wait some more. Things would be so much more efficient if they just boarded a few rows at a time, back to front. I've never given a s*** if I'm in group A, B, C, D, whatever...we're all going to the same place, I have to wait on the plane a shorter amount of time, and I have a seat waiting for me. All about the carry ons. I rarely check a bag and have been on countless flights where they run out of carry-on space if you're the last group to board.

I went through a bit of an airline free-agent experience this past spring, where I traveled the 4 major airlines in the same month for my business trips. American, Delta and United all seemed to be the exact same experience, while Southwest was very different. The seating process just beats everyone else by a mile. You don't have the herd of people all trying to board in one group. Southwest wins, but if I don't want to travel through Midway - it doesn't really matter.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) When does the free shuttle begin and also how far is Crossroads from Millennium Park? We are honestly looking for the safest and easiest way to get there and back. We aren't big city people so whatever is the easiest. I trust you guys. lol Taxi. Seriously, it can't be more than $15 bucks from downtown.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 03:39 PM) $280 for a 4-day car rental in Phoenix because I'm 24. That sucks. If you haven't gone yet, PM me and I'll shoot you some info.

Anyone play "Outlast" for the ps4? Holy hell is it terrifying.
