The Sox can severely limit his options by offering him the qualifying offer. That way it is a 1 year deal. If he is great, you sign him the next year. He declines it and his stock is very limited.

We can just offer Jose the QO. It'll be what, 18mil? He declines the QO and he won't get ANY good offer due to the loss of a pick attached to him. He wouldn't get 2/30mil, unless he waits it out like Kimbrel and Keuchel. Overpaying for only 1 year isn't that bad with Jose. Hamstring him with the QO.

Happ just put up an .898 OPS last year. Given it was in limited at bats. I don't see why the Cubs would "sell low" on him right now. Plus, plenty of people here think he is dogshit (I am not one of them). The Cubs aren't trading him at a discount. Don't think what we would have to give up for him would be worth it.

Gurriel made multiple picks that Jose Abreu misses, 100%. The White Sox want to start contending next year. There is absolutely no reason to play a horrible fielder at 1st base when you can DH him. Having a guy who can't make a pick to save his life is demoralizing for the pitchers and infielders. Sox need to say screw it to the loyalty BS and stick Jose's ass in the DH spot. Ideally he goes to DH next season. If he is still the 1st baseman after next season, then we have HUGE issues.
