Your criteria is flawed honestly. What does it matter whether they stayed on the same team? The A's were a lousy team so they traded Street. Do you expect the White Sox to be lousy? With starters going less deep into games and the way relievers are used in the playoffs, keeping them the extra year is helpful. Saying "the extra year of control doesn't matter" is ridiculous. 6 is more than 5. It is really that simple. If he is a stud, would you want him an extra year?

That makes no sense. Not every reliever implodes after a few years. If he is good, he will get expensive a year earlier and be a free agent a year earlier. It's that simple.

I think it's more like a girl saying no to sex after the first date(s). I understand looking at the White Sox spending history, but using that alone to come to a conclusion is just lazy IMO. People said the same thing about the rebuild, and then it ended up happening. The White Sox have a dirt cheap payroll with many players on rookie deals. They can afford a Machado contract. They also had a top 5 payroll between 2006 and 2008. Jerry will spend if they have a chance to win.

We don't know that though. The risk outweighs the reward. The white sox aren't a top FA destination typically. If Hahn trades big-time prospects for Arenado and then he leaves in FA, Hahn gets grilled like there is no tomorrow.
