A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron

Awww, poor Jose. If he doesn't want to be DH then he can work on his sorry ass defense and not be the worst defensive 1b in the league -
A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
ron883 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
To put it lightly, his defense has been a steaming pile of garbage. His uzr/150 is freaking -14.4. That will only get worse after today. If Jose isn't traded by the deadline, do they make him dh and stick somebody else there? His defense has been pathetic. They might as well try Davidson there. There is absolutely 0 chance he can be worse than Jose. The awful defense at 1B is particularly disappointing because it hurts His trade value to NL teams. -

No futuresox writeup on the 2nd pick yet? C'mon -
Ripping on a guy who tore his Achilles twice and calling him a bad draft pick. He showed promise before then. Real classy greg. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Covey looks good in another start. He may become even better than my prediction above. Sox found another diamond in the rough pitcher.

Hahn being greg would be more surprising than Einhorn being Finkle

It's a joke LuGon hasn't been promoted yet. He is making a mockery of A ball. Promotions needs to be made. Eloy and Jameson to AAA. Booker and Call to AA.

6 ip 6k 2 er for covey today. -
Covey is starting today and I am predicting a very solid start. 6 ip, 2 er. Covey will become a staple in this rotation and will be a 4th starter for years to come with the Sox. Book it. You heard it here first.

It's possible Jose is doping. Putting up numbers similar to his rookie campaign at age 31. Best shape of his life too. You never know.
-
Another aspect I really didn't consider is the comp pick. That is a solid get for the sox. Is his leadership + comp pick worth more than what the sox get in return? They would really have to be blown away by a trade offer.

Come to think of it, HoT FiRe would be a more fitting nickname for Dylan Covey than it was Dayan Viciedo- especially if he is throwing 95 mph gas with wicked movement.

Anybody know much about this guy? http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=milb&player_id=614179#/career/R/pitching/2018/A Stats in A+ and AA as a 23 year old this year. 36 so, 23.1 ip, 13.9 so/ip, 7 bb, .77 whip. He has 23.1 ip in 15 appearances, so he regularly goes more than 1 inning. He is age appropriate for his level. The guy has so simply put up awesome numbers. Did the sox find a great relief prospect?

Yoan is a big boy. He also isn't the GM. This is a business and he would get over it. Hell, I'm sure Jose would be happy to go to a contender while building his free agency value by slugging the hell out of the ball in Colorado. He would talk with the young guys in the clubhouse and let them know it's for the better. The dude will have a job with the Sox when he retires.

I hope you feel like a dirtbag for rooting against Covey now. Poor guy has been through enough.

I would be ecstatic if we could get some of the aforementioned Rockies prospects for Abreu. I know some people couldn't handle it, but there is no reason to half ass a rebuild. Go full burn and destroy, Sam Hinkie style. Anybody with a questionable white sox future 2 seasons from now should be bait. Abreu and Nate Jones are the only ones with value lol. Maybe some other bullpen vets bolster their value pre-deadline.

Did anybody get a chance to watch Covey's previous start? By the numbers, he had a very solid game. The link below shows all his strikeouts. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/video/covey-earns-1st-career-win/c-2076600583 I didn't get to watch the game. However, it appears he was throwing a 2-seamer with a heck of a lot of movement at 95 mph. To be fair, I never watched him pitch much in his previous stints with the sox. Was his fastball always this good? Is it the secondary pitches he struggles with? I wonder if he has figured it out and can become a back of the rotation guy. People were scratching their heads the sox sent him to the AFL and protected him in the rule 5. I guess they really did see something in him.

I never said the next 2 years. The sox have such a low payroll atm. Frontload it because that is simply a more attractive option, then scale back so you can spend more on others during the competitive years.
-
Yes. They slashed their payroll and it will be even more slashed with the Castillo suspension. Sox have the luxury of giving a front loaded contract to Manny if they do desire. Give him 40m a year first year then scale back.
-
Doesn't he have a nasty offspeed breaking ball? I thought his issue was just commanding his pitches.
