White Sox have worked out Eddy Julio Martinez twice or more
ron883 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No issues with the sox not signing him. No brainer for the Cubs, though. Next year, the Sox better spend big. It will be the last year with this system, and there will be a lot of talent, supposedly. -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 05:29 PM) Thompson? Come on, he's a utility outfielder the picture is great, but he just doesn't belong Trayce, a utility outfielder? He showed that he can play a plus CF with a bat that is playable. He is more than a utility outfielder, no doubt.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 17, 2015 -> 08:50 AM) understandable. trying to figure out who else is "sponge-worthy"?... Can you do Robin, Beckham, Danks, and Hawk?

QUOTE (ron883 @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 10:14 PM) LMAO this is really funny actually. I vote this one for the temporary banner. My bad wanne. I completely saw the wrong players on your banner. II thought it was sale, followed by danks, trayce, and Beckham. That's why o thought it was so funny at first. I need my glasses lol

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) Reasonable and worth reading. Well done. To me the Sox have basically three general options and only three short of a radical turnover in either ownership or the front office. And unfortunately because it's the White Sox, none are ideal: 1. Raise payroll 75 million and sign every decent free agent out there. Now folks on this site have said time and time again the free agent crop this year simply isn't that good especially at the positions the Sox are in desperate need of. Throw in the probability of a drop in season ticket holders due to the results after the last off season and I seriously doubt JR is going to be willing to go this route. 2. Bite the bullet and trade players like Sale, Jose, Q and so on. Not because you are 'throwing in the towel" but because IT'S THE BEST WAY TO INCREASE THE TALENT ON THE MAJOR LEAGUE ROSTER. I go back to my interview with Chuck Tanner before he died. When he and Roland Hemond took over the Sox were the worst franchise in baseball even worse than the expansion teams...yet in a single year they went from 56 wins to 79. How? According to Tanner it was because while he and Roland knew that trading the main assets the team had Luis Aparicio and Ken Berry weren't going to be popular, there was a plan. As Tanner told me (paraphrasing) 'we knew Mike Andrews wasn't as good of a player as Aparicio but Andrews AND Alvarado gave us two good players for one very good player. Rick Reichardt and Jay Johnstone weren't as good of outfielders as Berry but we got two good players for one very good one.' They received or traded 18 players in a 24 period and when it was said and done, the big league roster was better overall, the depth was better, the talent was better. It came at a cost but that's how you can quickly turn a team around "overnight." No one wants to trade say Sale but if you are going to get three or four good players for him only an imbecile would say, "no." You at least have to consider it. You say the Sox can't keep wasting their good years and I agree but the problem is they aren't close to winning anything with those guys and sooner or later either they are going to hit free agency and leave because they want to win or they are going to tell their agents to get them the hell out of Chicago by hook or crook. Do you want to trade them when you have the upper hand or wait until you've got no choice and basically are forced to give them away for scraps? 3. Do what I think the Sox WILL DO. Make some smaller moves, try to shore up an area or two and hope for the best. I think despite all the talk Rick Hahn understands the lack of talent still on the big league roster and in the higher reaches of the farm. He's going to shoot for 2017. Of the three options I think this probably works best although to me personally I wish the Sox would simply commit to a philosophy and STAY WITH IT come hell or high water. This 'rebuilding while contending' SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK. History shows it the past nine years. Finally regarding advanced stats. I'll simply say this...they obviously have a part in the game but baseball is played by real life humans with billions of variables in play literally throughout the season...from injuries, to slumps to bad weather to bad calls and fluke bounces. THOSE SIMPLY ARE NOT, CAN NOT AND WILL NEVER BE QUATIFIABLE...period. I think those who think they can are delusional. Plus I like to think I'm a fairly intelligent individual. I want to be able to enjoy baseball and not need a f***ing advanced degree in quantum theory or advanced mechanics to be able to...let alone to be able to even try to understand most of the gobbledygook that is being spewed out by some computer geek in his basement on his laptop. (Not directed towards you or anyone in particular but just as a general comment.) Mark "Advanced degree in quantum theory" lmao. This is why people aren't taking you seriously. You don't even need to understand advanced stats to see zobrists value. He has put up 5+ war seasons in 5 of the last 7. But yeah, he's a "stiff". The inability to adapt to advanced statistics is just lazy. And I think zobrists gets a big contract this off season. He is valuable to any team.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 09:49 PM) There's no reason to be a dick about anything. Just like anyone else in this thread, I'm brainstorming. I don't believe the Sox should try to compete next year, but I'm coming up with ideas for both sides. All of the guys I have listed have been rumored to be available or are FAs. So contribute something or shut the f*** up. Amen. I like your thinking. I think the Sox should acquire arenado from the Rockies. Try to dump laroche in the mike trout trade somehow. Throw danks in the Bryce Harper trade. The Sox are good

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) did anyone see espn this morning with Dr. Ken Jeong medical doctor / actor /comedian, (hangover) , he was funny. they also had Ronda Rousey playing off him. they really did great without a script. excellent post, a very good read. while you bring a good point, one must wonders if skip bayless/stephen aysmith could have added to the segment? either way, a very good read

The hate for Eaton is pretty laughable. If he is traded, it is for a king's ransom. He has tremendous value. He can play a solid CF. He can be above average in left and right most likely. On his contract, he commands a lot in return.
-
If I didn't just move to wrigleyville, I would be more against them winning. I'm indifferent now, if not slightly rooting for them. I want to be in the heart of the party if they win. It will be absolutely wild. I'm assuming I'll be able to find some overjoyed cubs broad to bang. I'm predicting the panties will be awfully wet in wrigleyville the night they win it, if they do.
-
With Eaton having surgery on his throwing shoulder? Do you see him switching to the corner? I think trayce won the cf job for next year. The sox simply need to improve their defense. I can't see this not happening
-
Alpha dog wants our prisons to be even more crowded that's rich
-
Trading Eaton is such a stupid idea. Do some people think we are loaded with outfield depth? The sox would just be creating another big hole.

Who will have the better career when it's all said and done?

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 05:57 PM) Yes. That's why I'm not a huge fan of sabermetric statistics. They're so subjective. Stats like wins, losses, walks, strikeouts, ERA, K/BB ratio, etc are concrete and will always be the same no matter that website you're on. Sabermetric stats aren't. I guess I'm more of a traditionalist myself, but I just can't get behind supporting sabermetric stats until there is a clear way to make and evaluate them without there being a gray area. Grouping all sabermetric stats together and calling them all "subjective" just shows that you probably haven't done much research on them and you have no desire to understand them. Why do you think every single team uses these stats? Because it is a good way to evaluate talent. It's as simple as that. They wouldnt put resources towards sabermetrics if it was a sham. I never understood the anti saber crowd. -
If the Sox believe Trayce is the better defensive CFer next season, he should play in CF. Eaton has the bat to play in the corner. Defense is greatly improved this way. Trayce has the tools to be better in CF. I am happy with Eaton in CF, but I'd be happier with the above scenario. It can really shore up the defense IMO. Melky-Eaton-Avi is plain awful.

Greg, we get it. You are sexist. Give it a rest.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 11:11 PM) To any Soxtalker who has time to answer this question ... Let's say I quit my job tomorrow and decided to be a consultant and work for myself and needed coverage. How do I get Obamacare or would Blue Cross individual coverage be cheaper? Anyhow, what is the protocol to get Obamacare? How would I do it? What are the procedures, the step by step instructions to take? Thank u! Have you ever bothered looking something up yourself? Or do you just ask your wife or kids to get answers for you?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 07:44 AM) One thing people forget with Ozzie, the White Sox don't want to deal with Oney Guillen tweets anymore. That is part of hiring Ozzie. You get that crap. It gets picked up by websites and suddenly, if everything isn't perfect, your manager's son is constantly ripping your team, and it is everywhere, for everyone to see. This. Ozzie will never get a managerial job again because of it. What kind of idiot lets his kids publicly slander their company and bosses CONSTANTLY? The man is a piece of garbage.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) So did Tyler Flowers. Once you get to higher levels, it's a new game. Trace has been great, but his defense has been shaky. Several curious routes, a huge error, and also seems to be thinking about that error at present. Avi is a bad defender without a doubt, but also leads the league in assists, and at least 2 home run saving catches. If you want to say Avi is horrible without a chance to be any good, saying Thompson is a guy who is going to be good is a long reach. Fangraphs isn't the way to identify prospects. ^DA's all time favorite game. I think it is clear why some people like Trayce so much. He has the ability to be plus in the OF defensively. Scouting reports rave about his defense. He can turn into a plus CF defensively IMO. Avi is just awful on defense. Avi needs to hit like a stud to be more valuable than Trayce.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 09:43 PM) Fixing the defense (as well as finding a power bat) would be my first priority, but I'd much rather have Trayce in CF (or RF) depending on what you think of Eaton's D. I'd have Eaton in LF and Trayce's athleticism in CF and get a defensive RF who isn't terrible with the bat. If not.. stick Trayce I'm RF, leave Eaton in CF and get someone to replace Melky. This is why I was so adamant on why they're not playing Trayce everyday the rest of this year now to see what we've got. I'm all for moving Trayce to CF and Eaton to LF. I think their bats can both play at those positions. I also think they can both be above average at both positions. This greatly improves the outfield defense. Gotta try to do something with Melky or Avi. The Sox can't trot this same awful outfield defense out there next year. It's flat out embarrassing.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 07:51 PM) I'm falling for Dr. Ben. He needs to be our next president, folks. He is not a politician and simply cares about what's best for our country. At some point we have to let the lifetime politicians know (Hillary, Bush, et. all) that we don't care for do-nothing rhetoric. We want the successful surgeon. Or should want the successful surgeon. He isn't a politician? I beg to differ. Here is why. 1. He is a world renouned brain surgeon. He is a master about everything regarding the brain. If that's the case, why does he hold completely archaic views on marijuana? He thinks marijuana has a detrimental effect on the brain if you use it in your mid 20's or earlier. He thinks it decreases your IQ. Those claims have been proven to be false for a long time now. That is stuff you'd see in 1960's American anti-weed propaganda. Marijuana has been proven to be beneficial to the brain in many situations. Being an expert on the brain, he should know of the numerous benefits marijuana can have on the brain. There is no way he actually believes that. He is lying for the lobbyists and for the votes on that issues. 2. He is a creationist. There is absolutely no excuse for being a creationist if you are as educated as him. Plain and simple. You don't get my vote if you a creationist. Maybe he actually believes this. His history shows he always had this view, so maybe he isn't putting on a facade for the votes. I still struggle to believe that any of these politicians are actually creationists.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) If that is a sign of future success, explain to us the hate for the younger Avi Garcia. I don't think that is very hard to figure out.

That's enough now trayce. Two games on the bench for you.
-
Trayce's approach really impresses me... He has a better eye than his minor league stats suggest.

Hawk really needs to stop saying Kansas City Special.
