2016 Fantasy Baseball Official Thread
GGajewski18 replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 07:05 PM) Would anyone else care to share an opinion as to how I can improve my team? Maybe sell off on of your aces for a stud OFer. -
At this point, something still has to be done. If we are truly in this 3 year plan, Hahn and company need to at least upgrade another position this year. I believe there is great value in Ian Desmond now and maybe even CarGo. I would sign Desmond and trade Avi and Adams for Cargo and 7 million cash.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) Can someone please post his incredible goal holy crap Deadspin @Deadspin 18m18 minutes ago VIDEO: Dele Alli puts Spurs up 2-1 with incredible wondergoal http://screengrabber.deadspin.com/dele-all...alac-1754710667 … True beauty. -
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:26 PM) He got a 3 year deal, exactly what the Sox were said to be offering. Did you not see the 1 year opt out worth 27.5 million?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:24 PM) They just gave him the largest single season outfield contract ever. It's not like Mets got a hometown discount. Did you see that projected lineup of our dream lineup of Desmond and CarGo lol. Woof.
-
QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:15 PM) What is Desmond going to cost? Realistically? He turned DOWN a $107M offer already... But let's here the thoughts. This oughtta be interesting. I think he'll take a 1 year prove it deal. Or a 3 year deal worth around 40-45 million. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:16 PM) For a $150 million payroll, which would be about $5 million above KC and well behind Detroit. No doubt that's the most fearsome line-up if you can keep Cargo healthy. True. Danks and LaRoche are coming off the books next year so I think it could happen.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:10 PM) That would be beautiful. Eaton CF Cabrera LF Abreu 1B Gonzalez RF Frazier 3B Desmond SS LaRoche DH Lawrie 2B Avila C
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:07 PM) Yep, I'm on board with that. I don't think Jackson or Fowler is happening. Signing Desmond and trading Avi and Adams for CarGo. I think that would work.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:02 PM) 27.5 pretty much has to assure everyone that he opts out (cause the remaining money on that deal would be way less than a deal a year from now...unless he is hurt or totally tanks). That is a real hefty price to pay for 1 year (that said I don't blame the Mets). Clearly Cespedes wanted to stay in New York and leveraged everyone else and unless someone offered him a legit longer term deal with a lot of guaranteed money, he was going to go to the Mets. Now things are finally going to get interesting. Lets see how the Sox pivot. Maybe Desmond and Jackson or Desmond and a trade. The clear answer is Desmond & Jackson, but I wouldn't be opposed to a Desmond & trade for one of the Colorado OFers.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:02 PM) God knows I have too many posts in this thread that were anti-Cespedes, but for those that wanted him....would you have been ok with paying him 27.5? I wanted Cespedes, and want nothing to do with that 1 year 27.5 million contract (that's what it essentially is)
-
QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:47 PM) Where is this $27.5M first year that I keep seeing? Anyone have a link to contract details? Makes no sense to pay him A-ROD $, with a 1-year opt out, and an NTC....all over 3 years and $75M. That first year $ has to be BS. It's 25 million a year if he does not opt out. If he opt outs after year 1, his salary that first year will be 27.5 million. Heyman and Rosenthal tweeted it I believe.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:40 PM) ...while giving up 2 draft picks in the process. Hell no to that idea. I was just proving a point for what we could get for that 27.5 million.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:34 PM) Still just hope that if they were in on Cespedes that they use that money elsewhere in the next few weeks. If the Sox really wanted to, I think they can get Desmond & Fowler for under 27.5 million for 2016.
-
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:33 PM) I've been pretty irrational through this process with Cespedes. Both raBBit & Y2Jimmy both know that. But, how can anyone be pissed at the Sox for how this all came together? Gordon wanted to go back to KC, same with Cespedes in NYM, & Upton didn't want to be here & got 6 years. What exactly was Hahn supposed to do? Let's cool off & think rationally before blurting out some insult at the Sox organization or Hahn in general. This x100
-
If the Sox really wanted to, they can probably get Fowler and Desmond for under 27.5 million this year.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:20 PM) Hahn said the Sox had to get creative. No way they could afford 25 million for 2016 27.5 million if he opts out in year 1.
-
To people complaining and blaming the FO, he clearly wanted to go back to the Mets, and just waited it out until the right deal came along.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:14 PM) I think the team we have is pretty much going to be it on opening day. Disagree. Still think they do some type of upgrade.
-
Rosenthal said Cespedes had higher offers from multiple clubs.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:06 PM) This is disappointing. Very disappointing. Why? I definitely think that he wanted to stay in NY the whole time.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 09:53 PM) But the Nats gave him 5 years.. Looks like Roc Nation had it's bluff called, and the Mets offer was a bit lighter than they hoped. That 5 year deal was definitely a bluff. The agents are really playing the media
-
This is comical now. Me and my buddy have been texting everyday for the last month discussing possibilities. He wants to pull his hair out lol.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) Given how the last month has gone, we will surely see a tweet soon by Nightengale saying Sox won't give up draft pick to sign FA. This is a guarantee. And then Merkin will say the same thing.
-
Do the Mariners have money? King Felix, Seager, Cano, Cruz contracts eat up quite a bit.
