Dexter Fowler as a secondary option

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) What is J2? July 2nd International signing period is what was meant. -

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) I'd really like to see Lincecum, personally. Fister, Latos, etc would be nice as more expensive options on a 1 year deal. The thing about Latos though is his age (only 28). If he does well, maybe hopes to resign him, or slap a pick on him and let him walk. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) It's pretty simple to me...makes more sense to pay Fowler 3/45 instead of Cespedes 4/100 when Cespedes isn't exactly a consistent superstar. Say that contract you mention is what Fowler gets, I wonder if the Sox would take a look at Latos or other decent RH starters with no draft pick attached to them, then make EJ available. -

Say we do sign Fowler, does he bat 1 or 2? -
QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) I doubt that he would come back. Doesn't have a choice if he's traded here. That's fathom's point.

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Just as comparison: Player A: 2014- .273/.305, 35 doubles, 15hr, 74rbi, 81ko's, 24bb 2015- .249/.285, 33 doubles, 10hr, 62rbis, 68ko's, 31bb Player B: 2014- .276/.375, 21 doubles, 8hr, 35rbi, 108ko's, 66bb 2015- .250/.346, 29 doubles, 17hr, 46rbi, 154ko's, 84bb Player is A is Alexei, B is obviously Fowler. I don't know. When I hear both may be close to signing, one for probably 2 years and maybe 16mm and the other is probably going to get like 3 years 42mm? Also, one would be replacing Saladino, in what I think is pretty obviously our biggest hole in the offense (though solid D) and the other would be replacing our 3rd biggest hole in our offense (2nd being Catcher) I just think if this is my pocketbook I am going with Alexei. Also doesn't cost a pick. Fowler to me is such a Sox move though. If you are going to breakout the checkbook Jerry, break it out. Don't spend $45mm on Fowler. Spend $85mm on Cespedes. There's a reason he's worth more. Also haven't watched a ton of Fowler but he doesn't really rate out as the best OF by dWar Fowler was a 3 win players and actually graded out as his best defensive year last year on fangraphs -
All of this could be Roc Nation planting this to the media to get their offers up.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) Did you watch the playoffs? More like did the Mets see first hand how Cespedes did in CF.

NCAA basketball 2015-16 thread

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 06:52 AM) My two favorite violations: "One assistant coach even had the audacity to help a player find some rental housing: A former associate head men’s basketball coach assisted in the relocation of a prospective student-athlete by providing the phone number of the prospect’s mother to a donor (Representative #2) to arrange for rental housing. The family paid a market rate for the rental. However, the actions of the former associate head coach are in violation of NCAA bylaws." And the absolute best: "A Missouri men’s basketball student-manager also provided transportation for multiple student-athletes to the hotel from the Missouri campus, all in violation of NCAA bylaws." Further proof that the NCAA is a complete joke. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) The Browns are hiring Hue Jackson. That's an excellent hire. Bye bye Johnny Football. I can't wait to see him fail in Dallas under Jerry Jones.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 11:13 AM) All I know is cut the turnovers. My lord the Bulls have so many awful turnovers. IF they just minimized their turnovers, they'd have a handful of more wins. But what a terrible week...4 in 5 days (which should never happen in the NBA given the physicality of the sport) and we have the walking wounded after last nights game (and we aren't even that deep into the 4 in 5 days). And Rose was looking pretty good offensively over past couple weeks. The amount of times I see that they make that stupid jump pass and turn it over, it has to be at least 6-8 times per game that this team does it.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) Seriously, do these guys only work on Wednesdays in the offseason? Wonder if this is our only move for the day

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 08:33 AM) White Sox to name Jason Benetti as Hawk Harrelson's half-season replacement There is a couple audio clips in this article of Jason calling some home runs. I like his calls. Thanks for that.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 06:38 AM) For Illinois fans, he did the Mich St game with Calhoun last week I turned that game off real fast lol. However, not because of the announcing. Great hire, I like his voice. Like others have said, a local kid, grew up a Sox fan, and has national and local experience. Great hire.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:41 PM) I really want to believe Teravainen is the real deal. He has looked pretty good so far. His 2 way game has gotten so much better, and he's finally shooting the puck. He has a sneaky wrister. Love me some TT, and meshed pretty well with Kane and Panarin tonight.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 08:27 PM) I'd pull the trigger on that trade. Gotta give up something, Adams should interest Rockies. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 08:27 PM) Absolutely, in a heartbeat I would too. Resign Alexei to a 1 year deal, move Saladino to utility role, and you have 3 picks in the top 50.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 07:36 PM) The market could not be setting itself up better for the Sox. I completely agree.
