Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 1m1 minute ago Brian Bilek Retweeted Jacob Sampsell Not necessarily, but if they don't, it won't be for the reason of the recent media manipulations.
  2. Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 3m3 minutes ago Brian Bilek Retweeted Josh Nelson The #WhiteSox will get another outfielder. That's a promise. I'm not talking Sands/Fields type either. Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 1m1 minute ago If #WhiteSox don't sign Cespedes/Upton it won't be for lack of willingness to go to a fourth year. They have the upper hand in the market.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:46 PM) Here's a really outside the box idea: sign Desmond to play SS and Alexei to play RF. Alexei is most known as a SS as we all know, but he did play a bit of outfield in '08. As far as I'm concerned, he'd be an upgrade over Avi and his defense would most likely be adequate. No, just no.
  4. Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 2m2 minutes ago .@Ken_Rosenthal just reported to @EliHershkovich that the #WhiteSox are firm on their stance of not going over 3 years with Cespedes/Upton.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:35 PM) Agreed....of course, maybe JR is gun shy after Hahn's horrible FA acquisitions last year. Does JR think Avi can help this team win next year? I don't think so.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/685210889520283653 Well, if true, makes 0 sense.
  7. https://soundcloud.com/mlbtr Pretty interesting comments by Merkin. Talks about the Frazier trade and the big OFers. Mentions Sox have checked in on all 3 Colorado OFers, but Rockies wanted Quintana for CarGo.
  8. Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 6m6 minutes ago Everyone freaking out about the #WhiteSox supposedly not willing to go more than three years should take a step back. Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 5m5 minutes ago The #WhiteSox are never straightforward with anything financial in the media. They never have been and they shouldn't be. Discretion is key. Brian Bilek ‏@ChiSoxraBBit 4m4 minutes ago Why would KC give Gordon four years with a 5th year option if the #WhiteSox were only offering three years? They wouldn't.

  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:54 AM) Yeah the similarities and contrasts between the Pens and Hawks are a good study. Both had a young all world core built around cheap star players. The Pens have slowly eroded from their position at the top of the NHL, while the Hawks have repeated their championship runs. The Hawks also have used their purges to put one of the best farm systems in hockey together, which keeps producing contributing players. There have been moments along that time line where the Hawks haven't been on top, but they have always had the needle pointing up. Even when they were down this year, it was because of injury to a Hall of Fame defenseman. Keith gets back, and the Hawks are rolling again. Looking at the top of the farm system, they have two future top 6 guys at the top in Schmaltz and Dano. This organization is a model of what professional sports teams want to look like. 100% true. Pokka and Firstling are also top 6 D guys. Both have potential to be top 4 as well, and Hartman is easily a top 9 forward that provides what Shaw does now. Not to mention, players not listed were Svedberg, Ross, Baun, Haggerty (Hawks love him), and Kero that can all fill in bottom pair D guys, and bottom 6 guys on offense.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) you are missing the point. the main point is, stan will need to find a miracle to do the next trade...... b/c when the hawks are calling, the price instantly is going to go up, no matter what the conversation is. the success of the hawks will make every trade conversation a difficult one. I disagree. The Hawks success has nothing to made a trade conversation difficult. The Hawks cap space makes it a difficult conversation which could lead to "over pays" from the Hawks
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:26 AM) He has been in a difficult position since 2010, but he still keeps finding a way to build contenders and champions. If it were easy, even the Blues would be doing it. I think a better example would be the Penguins. When they won their first cup with Crosby and Malkin, people thought that team was the next dynasty. Look at what that GM/coaches did to that team. Since then, I don't think they've made it past the 2nd round, and are on the verge of missing the playoffs this year. All because the GM didn't put together a competent team around his stars, instead he added aging veterans like Iginla, Morrow. Look at what Stan has done now. They added Oduya, Handzus, but also had Saad, Leddy, Kruger Smith, Bollig from within the system contributing to the team. Last year they added Timonen, Richards, Versteeg, and Vermette. But the likes of Teuvo, TVR, and Nordstrom from within the system contributing to the team.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) Also for the haters, for as much grief as Stan got for the trades this off season, where is the love for Pannarin? The guy has been all world. Very true. Players want to play for the Hawks now. Panarin has been amazing. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:24 AM) you have a point, but if the hawks can help them, so can many other teams as well so it will goes back to over payment. stan is in a difficult position to continue this run. let me bring up something from last yr, many thought, even after the SC, that the hawks over paid from some players at the close of the trade deadline. one of those players did help, but the cost was a first round pick. To be fair, at trade deadlines, prices are higher because teams are willing to risk more during the season if they are playing well or missing a piece to contend for a championship like the Hawks did last year. Another example, look at the Frazier and Chapman deals. If the Reds would of traded these 2 at the last deadline, they definitely would of gotten higher prices for both these guys. I mean for the longest time, the Reds wanted Anderson or Fulmer in a Frazier deal, they ended up with Peraza who was in talks with the Dodgers in the Chapman deal. In the Chapman deal, Yankees didn't give up anything of value besides 2 "decent pieces", but not top prospects by any means.
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:19 AM) ahhh that is wrong, but then again it is how one will look at it... i see the salary fixing itself by key contracts coming off the books in the next 2 yrs. danks and laroche contract - 28 mil coming off, mekly contract coming off the following yr. i think. beside if there is a temp signing on the SS positions. frazier and someone else, contract comging off the yr after. the salary has a nice stagger attrition to correct itself. the biggest problem is, will the sox have the prospects to step in??? Farzier, Melky, and Duke's contracts all coming off in the same year.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:11 AM) to put it mildly or just to hear me write this out, but this is the inequality of the hawks past success. that success to attributed to great drafting, great coaching and have a great main core of players to add or to plugin players with a specific talent to continue the success. i still think of 2 things. 1. the team of players or really underestimated by most hawks fan. b/c of being blinded by that success and 3 SC. 2. i still don't see the hawks gm doing anything ...... b/c again, what team will really want to help the hawks, unless it is by over payments. This is simply not true. If a trade helps the other team in the long run or now, they will make a trade with the Hawks. The theory of teams wanting to not help the Hawks is just wrong. It's a business, you do what's best for your team.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) In all fairness to Cy, it's only a back-up option probably #15-20. Mainly, if we could get rid of Danks' salary and or get salary and prospects (someone that came over from Arizona or Olivera, etc.) back. It's obviously easier to say Gardner, Span, Parra, Fowler, Inciarte, any one of the Rockies, Ozuna, Ethier...but at what cost? Honestly, JR probably doesn't have the appetite for two marginal upgrades that simultaneously boost payroll to $140 million plus. Marlins asking for Chi Chi Gonzalez and another player for Ozuna from the Rangers. That seems like an average price as Gonzalez is nothing special.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 07:09 AM) 5 in a row for the Hawks. 2nd best point total in the west, 3rd best in all of hockey. Crazy that they're playing this well, and people don't think of them as cup contenders still. With as much turnover as the Hawks had, and have the 3rd best record in hockey right now, great job from the coaching staff. For the Bowman haters, does he credit for assembling the roster that is playing so well, also?
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 12:55 PM) Man I just don't trust Cespedes to continue anything like last season, would much prefer the Span/RHSP combo to him. Don't trust Cespedes, but wants older, injury plagued, below average center fielder in Denard Span. Makes sense.
  19. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 11:50 AM) Why? The Giants payroll is sitting at about 165M. I see nothing to be worried about. Imo, that's 165M reasons the Giants have been linked to Parra and Fowler. They've been around 189 in the past. They need an OFer, they got Samardzija and Cueto. Why go 2/3 of the way there when you can spend a little more and be a complete team, much like the Sox are doing.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 11:47 AM) You just have to worry about the Giants lurking. Giants are the team I'm most worried about. Sox need to act quickly.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) A read on some of the Hawks top prospects. http://www.secondcityhockey.com/2016/1/6/1...hampionship-wjc Pretty good prospect list. 4 of the top 5 should be on the team within the next couple years, Forsling is the exception. I'm excited for all of these guys to contribute, especially Dano, Pokka, Schmaltz and Hartman.
  22. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) Personally if we dont sign the other two guys they should admit they screwed up and try again during the trade deadline. Seriously for the money the upgrade on some of those guys is marginal if at all. I agree with this. I wouldn't bother going after Parra or Jackson.
  23. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) I bet Denver resigns Wolfe and Miller. They are going to have a ton of cap room with Manning leaving. They also have to resign Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan as well then. My money is Bears will get one of Jackson, Wolfe, Trevathan.
