QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 09:27 PM) For me, just a few things I'd like them to do, and then I'd feel like they're in the right place. In terms of at least semi-realistic scenarios... --Sign one of Upton, Cespedes or Gordon, in that order of preference --Trade Avisail for prospects - I do think he could get you one good one at this point. I think he's a lost project, but other teams may try to wring something from him. --Re-sign Alexei for 1/7 (I think he takes it, maybe needs an option) That should put the 2016 payroll in the $130-135M range, which I think they are willing to do. Lineup, roster: Eaton 8 Carbera 7 Abreu 3 Frazier 5 New OF 9* (lineup spot and OF slot could vary based on which one) Lawrie 4 LaRoche 0 Ramirez 6 Navarro/Avila 2 Bench: Sanchez, Saladino, Shuck, Navarro/Avila Rotation: Sale, Rodon, Quintana, Danks, EJ/Turner/? Pen (no order): Robertson, Jones, Duke, Petricka, Putnam, Kahnle, Jennings/Phillips Eh? I think I would keep Avi and platoon him at DH and get a start every now and then in place of Melky. Also, would rather keep Saladino starting given his glove his really good and the infield is light years better offensively now. So there is no pressure on him. The 7 million on Alexei I think could be used on another bench piece or a starting pitcher. Overall, good and realistic plan.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 05:20 PM) Bob Nightengale on MLBN just said Sox are perfect landing spot for Justin Upton. Just spent a couple minutes talking about it. This, combined with Bucket's new info. I really hope we can sign Upton soon.

Kyle Murray, QB Texas A&M, is quitting football, transferring to a JuCo, and will play baseball, looking to get drafted next year. I believe he is a MI

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) Expect an outfielder. Bucket has spoken

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) Yeah, it is crazy. Sonny Gray is about the closest comp value wise to Sale. He may be more valuable. Ask yourself, would you be happy with that return for Sale? Hell no! This doesn't even get you remotely close to acquiring Sonny Gray. you're right

Crazy thought here: Sign OF Yoenis Cespedes 5 years/110 million Trade SP Erik Johnson, SS Tim Anderson, SP Spencer Adams and OF Adam Engel to the A's for SP Sonny Gray CF Adam Eaton LF Melky Cabrera 1B Jose Abreu 3B Todd Frazier RF Yoenis Cespedes DH Adam LaRoche 2B Brett Lawrie C Alex Avila/Dioner Navarro SS Tyler Saladino SP Chris Sale SP Sonny Gray SP Jose Quintana SP Carlos Rodon SP John Danks Have 3 picks in top 50 in the next draft.
-
No clue where to put this, but John Smoltz just called Quintana a #3-4 type guy in the rotation.

SoxNet: After Lawrie and Frazier, what's next?

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 02:52 PM) Sign Upton. Sign Austin Jackson. Move Eaton to left. Cabrera to DH. Where does LaRoche go? -
Quick question, if the Mets miss out on a big OF, I wonder if we can somehow pull off a trade for Zack Wheeler. Turning 26 and coming off TJ, not much room for him in that rotation.

Dodgers are in talks with Jake Odorizzi -
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 09:53 AM) Maybe it's me, but it sure sounds like they will get a new RF I agree.
-
Outside of being a joke of an interview, they finally asked some real questions at the end. Saladino is the SS right now in all probability, with Sanchez competing with him. Have to be flexible if sign a big time FA and mentioned that they've done it in the past.
-
This is an embarrassing interview from Goff and Spiegel. ****ing dumb.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) I have faith in the Sox FO not being dumb enough to follow suit. Exactly, that's why I don't think Gordon will be a good fit because of his contract demands.

Sign Upton and possibly resign Alexei -

Is there a link provided where I can listen online?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:49 AM) Five obviously, but most teams prefer 4...and 3 would be ideal. Realistically, four's the shortest....unless they just have insane frontloading or a favorable opt-out after just two seasons. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) 3 I could see but I wouldnt do more than that for an outielder that turns 32 next year. A 35 year old Ben Zobrist just got a 4 year deal. Gordon will definitely get a 5-6 year deal.

QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:48 AM) Eh, Shuck is cheap but isn't good. There's not much behind him, so more depth is better. Not talking about breaking the bank, but like, Victorino or even De Aza would be nice to have. I don't understand how you can say that Shuck didn't have a good season last year. He's the perfect OFer who is cheap. I'd rather have him over De Aza or Victorino.
-
QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:29 AM) OF, OF, OF. A corner bat and, with TNT gone, a viable 4th OF are needed. Possibly SS depth, but not as important. I wonder what Rollins is looking for $$ wise SP depth is needed as well. J.B Shuck says hi. I think he did extremely well last season.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 10:53 PM) It entirely depends on money. If we are talking something like 5 yrs/$110M on Upton, and 6 yrs/$160M on Cespedes, then go Upton. But if it's more like 5 yrs/$130M on Upton and 6 yrs/$150M on Cespedes, then go Cespedes. Cespedes is better, but will cost more. Upton is cheaper, but will cost a draft pick. It's a seriously tough choice, but I'm going Cespedes for his defense/speed AND huge power. Upton is not a good defender. I'm pretty sure Upton grades out better than Cespedes defensively

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 10:25 PM) Dan Hayes: Don't think #WhiteSox will wind up w/ high-profile FA. Won't rule anything out. But they prefer trade or FA w/o draft pick attached. Him and Merkin have been saying that for 2 weeks now
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 08:58 PM) Would the White Sox pay Markakis $31.5 million for three years on the free agency market? That's the main point. And would it be enough of an upgrade to make it worthwhile (same with Fowler, Span, etc.) Probably not. Avi has little to no value right now, and the Braves would certainly not trade Inciarte straight up for Tim Anderson...not to mention the fact we'd suddenly have no SS or C of the future, essentially the two most important positions on the diamond. Markakis is worse than Melky.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 07:50 PM) I doubt it to be honest. Kim's contract is cheap plus Kim can play not LF and 1B so the O's still have a hole to fill either way. If they intend on using Kim at 1B it probably means the O's are even more "in" for one of the FA outfielders. Imo, I think they go after Gordon's left handed bat. Well they also have Trumbo.

Are you upset in the direction the Sox are headed?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 07:48 PM) Medlen and Capuano are the only test cases so far for double TJ surgery...the Beachy situation, right? Buehrle's been mentioned. Gallardo would probably be too expensive, and certainly wouldn't fit with an Upton/Cespedes/Gordon/Davis or even Ian Desmond signing. I could see Buehrle as well. In reference to the bolded, I think we would just be looking at depth guys that maybe had off years/injured that could be had for cheap.
