  1. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 07:47 PM) Lets say the Sox sign Upton and put him in RF. They can't move LaRoach or Avi. Who would you rather see DH? Am I crazy to give Garcia most of the AB's at DH? Platoon them at DH.
  2. Well the O's very well could be out on the big FA OFs. They just signed Kim
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 07:38 PM) Only if they don't improve RF, DH, SS and possibly add a veteran starter and/or reliever...in other words, no significant additions from here until ST. Whether it's the 2004-2005 or pre-2008 additions (Danks/Ramirez/Quentin/Floyd/Linebrink/Dotel), the White Sox and now the Cubs have shown that it's always going to be an equal combination of smart trades and youth/development/talent evaluation that makes for a winning organization. Obviously being in a position to select Kris Bryant and having the Astros pass on him for Mark Appel helped. Their offensive future wouldn't look nearly so bright without both him and Schwarber, as Baez and Soler have been exposed to some extent. The Arrieta pick up was obviously huge as well. I agree to an extent. I could definitely live with Saladino at SS because we surrounded the infield with guys that can defend and hit. I'm also fine with a platoon of Laroche/Avi at the DH spot ONLY if we get Upton. So really, Sox sign Upton, I'm perfectly content with the offense. In terms of starting pitching, I'd be willing to take some gambles on Brandon Beachy, Tim Lincecum, or Edwin Jackson
  4. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Next offseason the FA SP market is terrible, Quintana might fetch more then if you want to trade him. If Sox are contending or are close, Quintana is not going anywhere.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 06:25 PM) One guy I wouldn't mind them looking at because he would be minimum and worked well with Coop is Edwin Jackson. I definitely agree. He had success here before. I could see Brandon Beachy and Tim Lincecum being good gets as well.
  6. QUOTE (Saufley @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) Back on the high! Half way done! Upton next! Thank you White Sox! Lol I love this. Let's get Upton!
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:56 PM) LOL at please read. I put that because no one would really care about these signings and that it could take them out of the big OF FA guys. lol
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) I always felt like Daniel Murphy would be a great signing for the Angels for their infield. I could see that. For 3B.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) Also, it would be great if the Orioles sign Chris Davis Agreed because I think they would resign Parra then.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) Tigers are a big threat for Cespedes, IMO Ah yes, great call. Forgot about them.
  11. Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 2m2 minutes ago Daniel nava gets $1.375M on 1 yr angels deal
  12. So, the teams at least reported in Upton or Cespedes are the White Sox, Giants, Cardinals, Royals, O's, Nationals?, Angels. Figure the Angels are out now. Cardinals GM said they don't wanna sign a big ticket FA. Giants have spent 220 million on pitching. O's could be waiting on Davis. Nationals could be a threat because they went after Heyward. Royals for Gordon. What you guys think?
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:46 PM) All three may be excessive, but I unno. I meant or lol. My bad. Any one of them 3 is a must.
  14. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:45 PM) I hope so. Teams taking themselves out of these sweepstakes is good for the Sox $$$ wise with one of these OFers. But boy oh boy the Angels love having a load of OFers. They did last year. They have Trout, Calhoun, Gentry, and Nava. Do they still have DeJesus?
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:43 PM) No new oufielder and Saladino at SS means the Frazier deal is essentially for naught... Hopefully Abreu has some sway with Cespedes. Bringing any NL player to the Sox brings some level of trepidation, two (that includes Puig, Ethier and CarGo) just seems like asking for trouble. Gordon and Cespedes al least have both proven they can excel in our division and are more comfortable fits compared to the higher price tag and streakiness of Upton. I agree. That's why signing Upton, Cespedes, and Gordon is a MUST.
  16. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:42 PM) IMHO, the two trades signal a big signing. I agree.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:35 PM) Span and Upton aren't happening with LaRoche still on the roster... At best, you can afford one outfielder at this point. A declining Span coming back to the AL Central doesn't quite make you a legit contender, either. Need one more big bat and possibly Ramirez returning for one year to SS or another bullpen piece. Upton can for sure happen. Backload the deal.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:42 PM) Probably the wrong thread, but Angels might be out of the outfield sweepstakes now: Jeff Fletcher ‏@JeffFletcherOCR 8m8 minutes ago The Angels have signed Daniel Nava to a one year deal. Could be the LF platoon with Gentry. I just saw this. Made a thread about it lol.
  19. Jeff Fletcher ‏@JeffFletcherOCR 8m8 minutes ago The Angels have signed Daniel Nava to a one year deal. Could be the LF platoon with Gentry. This guy suggests that they could be a platoon, so would it take them out of the Cespedes/Upton sweepstakes? If so, one less team to go up against.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:16 PM) So you are saying the White Sox get Puig for Danish and Garcia. That would be highway robbery. Only way the Sox are getting Puig is if they give up a front line starter or give up at least one of Fullmer/Anderson + others as part of a 3 way deal which nets the Dodgers their front line starter. I said I was just spit balling lol. With his recent actions, injury history, risk in the clubhouse, that's what I would offer and if they don't like it then too bad. I know that probably wouldn't get him, but just throwing some ideas out. P.S. I know you don't mean it, but it's been bothering me. It's Fulmer, not Fullmer.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:04 PM) Dodgers fans seem to think is the start of a bigger deal. Makes sense. Would love to get involved in a 3 way again with them and grab Puig. Definitely a bigger deal to acquire Jose Fernandez imo. I wouldn't even know where to begin where we land Puig, Dodgers get Fernandez, and Miami gets prospects. Dodgers get: SP Jose Fernandez White Sox get: RF Yaseil Puig Marlins get: SP Julio Urias SP Jose De Leon OF Trayce Thompson SP Tyler Danish OF Avisail Garcia I'm just spit balling here.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 05:03 PM) Wouldn't signing Span require giving up a draft pick or am I going crazy? You're going crazy. Washington did not extend him a QO.
  23. Where and when did Frank say that he thinks we sign Upton?
  24. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) That's the route I would take. One thing no one has brought up is the difficulty the Sox may have in signing Upton. As a few of us have mentioned, signing a back loaded deal for a FA OF is probably the only way the Sox can bring a high priced player on. As we've seen recently, the bigger names are looking for opt-outs after year 3 or 4, and I'm sure at 26 years old Upton is looking for that. I would be. So not paying a ton in Year 1 is going to create a problem for the Sox. Maybe not the 1st year, but in years 2-5 they definitely can because of the money coming off the books in Danks, LaRoche, Navarro, and Avila.
  25. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:52 PM) The OF available next offseason aren't great either, unless you want a 36-year-old Bautista. If we're going to upgrade there through FA then do it now. Exactly. The FA market next year is extremely thin. Sign Upton and don't use anymore assets to acquire a bat like CarGo. Go out and spend the money on Upton.
