  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 10:12 AM) I just think this would be a disaster. An awful signing and bad strategy. I'd prefer we do nothing for 1 more year than this. The only better FA OF option in my eyes would be Heyward. Upton is still in his prime (28), while Gordon (32) and Cespedes (30) contracts will get ugly later because they all will end up getting 5-7 year deals. The only thing that Gordon really provides over Upton is plus defense. Can Gordon play RF? Do you move Melky to RF? Upton and Heyward have at least played RF in their careers.
  2. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) I agree. Never say never but it seems like a long shot. Replace him with anyone it's Avi. Agreed.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) It would depend on what came back for it to be a mistake, but dangling him and trading him for prospects seems pretty silly considering he's a really good player now, and basically not going to break the bank for a long time. The problem with trading Q and guys like Eaton is twofold. Not only do you have to get at least as much talent and productivity back, you also are going to have to get it with reasonable contracts. If suddenly Trace Thompson isn't a major league regular, you can't get a decent CF for what the Sox will have to pay Eaton the next 4 or 5 years. Same with Q. It is mentioned on this board occasionally that the Sox have no financial flexibility. I disagree, but trading cost controlled good players can change that in a hurry. Everyone knows what it costs teams to sign an ace. The Sox have one getting paid like Javy Vazquez. Q is a solid #2 starter even though he is not a sexy one. Replacement cost in dollars would be astronomical. Eaton is in that boat as well. That would be an unbelievable leap of faith in a guy who hit .260 with barely a .300 OBP in AAA to dump your cost controlled catalyst of the offense. Couldn't of said it any better.
  4. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) True, but it's an accepted risk (for me atleast) because if Eaton brings back a SS, suddenly we're not having to pay Ramirez and someone such as Zobrist can be signed. So you've effectively filled two positions by trading Eaton, and anything positive/negative from Thompson is just what we'll have to deal with. What about Anderson? Trading Eaton would be a huge mistake.
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) I wouldn't mind adding a guy like Freese at third or trading for Rockies McMahon prospect or something. Then work from there. Maybe Cabrera at SS as stop gap for Anderson. There's definitely some things we could do. We'll be players for some of the outfielders no doubt. McMahon is no closer to the majors as Trey Michalczewski is.
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 08:08 PM) They actually debuted Breeze pretty perfectly. Hopefully they don't f*** him up too quick. I agree. Good debut.
  7. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) OF options aren't bad Starting pitching and outfield are the real strengths in the FA class this year. Infield is pretty thin and catcher is average i'd say.
  8. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) Yep! But that doesn't mean we couldn't use a second Eaton that's a bit older and more expensive. No reason to give up assets to trade for an older and more expensive version of Eaton. Spend the money, and get one of the top 3 OFs.
  9. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 06:00 PM) Isn't Gardner just a more expensive and older version of Eaton? That's what I see him as. Gardner's power definitely played into that ballpark as well imo. Comparing contracts, Pablo Sandoval (same age as Upton when given big contract) got 5/99 from the Red Sox. However, Pablo is coming off 3 WS titles I believe, I don't know if he was part of the first one though. So, imo, I think that would be the starter for Upton. I'd do 5/100 for Upton. Trade for Frazier and Norris. Then you have a formidable offense. I think those 3 additions, a better start to the year, not trading Q to get these 3 players. I think this team could make some huge noise next year.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) timdierkes ‏@timdierkes 42s42 seconds ago Where will Justin Upton land? Orioles are somewhat reasonable, Yankees if they trade Gardner. Rangers, White Sox, Giants, Tigers, Angels? I would love Upton.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 04:02 PM) After getting into a verbal fight with Gase. Pace, not Gase.
  12. Trading Adam Eaton? Trading Sale and Q for Schwarber and a minor leaguer? Now I've heard it all!
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 05:44 PM) The problem is Chris Sale is still an assumed health risk to many. Expecting Bryant and Russell back in a trade is completely unrealistic. You will get Baez and/or Castro. Other than Baez, Schwarber and Soler, there's just no way you get three guys who can hit 30-40 homers at the mlb level back for Sale. The White Sox can't wait forever on prospects...they need players one year or less away from the majors, or younger players who have begun to establish themselves a bit. It won't happen simply because the Cubs can buy whatever pitching they want and trade some of those players at peak value. Fwiw, Schwarber would seem perfect for the AL and Sox specifically. Which of course means he would end up a total bust. Then you don't trade Chris Sale. Simple as that.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) I don't think that is as far fetched as you think. The guy has some serious power, his problem is he can't stay healthy and doesn't like playing in cold weather Yeah I agree, kid definitely has at least 30 HR potential.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) Thanks for the confirmation. I don't see the White Sox being the team to draft a guy who is having TJS, unless they got some insane discount. They already passed up a chance at Brady Aiken this year, and Jeff Hoffman the year prior. If Hanson were to have TJ and fell to 10 for the Sox, I can definitely see the Sox saving some money there and then go over slot with the comp pick. Because last year, Matuella was a consensus top 10 pick before his injury, he then fell to the 3rd round. So, I think it could happen by drafting a guy like Hanson at 10 with an agreed deal before hand that he would take under slot but still in the 1st round.
  16. New updated mock that I was thinking of last night. Give Samardzija QO, he rejects it. 17. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 11:30 PM) Who has a high priced-over paid D man that we can swap bad contracts with by giving them Bickell? There were talks of swapping Bickell to EDM for Nikita Nikatten (sp?)
  18. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 09:14 AM) It sure does. From Cubs fan's eyes. I lol'd
  19. Now we got all the optimism back today because its officially "Back to the future" day. Cripes.
  20. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) Agreed. And let's be honest about Hockey. It's still kind of a novelty since like 2007. The Cubs thing does kind of boggle me. I continually preach media neutrality. Yeah, that just doesnt happen about the Cubs because when it comes to baseball, everyone wants to hop on the Cubs bandwagon in the media.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 10:37 PM) Cueto is going to be an interesting signing. He has obviously cost himself some money. I wonder how many teams that planned to go after him will bail. That's why he's going back to the NL. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 10:42 PM) What a disaster that whole thing was. Absolutely embarrassing. He cost himself so much money. Glad he is gone. He's going to look horrible in the home run machine that is Yankee Stadium. Agreed. Or in SF if they don't resign Leake.
  22. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 10:45 PM) The local media continues to be compromised by Cubbie blue and the indian head. To me, that's insane, because the Bears and the Bulls face crazy scrutiny in Chicago. Indian head has at least shown they have won championships. I agree with the rest of this post though.
  23. Why did Rondon just take a bat to the water fountain?
  24. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) Wrong side of town. This isn't 35th and Shields we're talking about. That's false as well.
