QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 05:44 PM) Good grief. Some of these proposals are alot like the proposals us Sox fans see from Boston and cub fans regarding Sale. Looking to trade what they don't want for something that's good and then turn around and try to justify how the players they are looking trade are worthy, even though they don't want the players. It's an endless circle. Instead of ridiculing our ideas, come up with your own and contribute to the thread then.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) He's a bearded d-bag looking frat boy that stole Sale's Cy Young from underneath him. Lol that's a poor reason. I also have a beard and take offense to this!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) Joel ShermanVerified account @Joelsherman1 Post has learned http://nyp.st/1OvI2wQ #Mets Cespedes agreed to erase term that would force NYM to sign by 5 days after WS or not at all I think he resigns in NY now and play him in CF with Conforto in LF.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 03:59 PM) I don't get the appeal of Jason Heyward. He's going to be so overpaid, and he's not even that good. 25.2 career WAR according to baseball reference over a course of 6 years including this year. If you do the math, that is an average of 4.2 WAR per season. He is worth the money.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) I see no scenario which has us spending $100 million on a free agent. I think our big move will be to send Quintana out for a young stud 3B. Past that, it is all roster filling. What were they planning to do with Samardzija before his carousal of a season? They had all intentions of signing him to a huge contract, why not do it for a guy like Heyward who, theoretically, is entering his prime years. Remember, Joel Sherman had a tweet out earlier this year saying the Sox were 2nd in Heyward sweepstakes before the Cards got him, so there is definitely interest there from the front office. Not to mention, they were in the Tanaka race and reportedly offered 5 years 125 million I believe. Also, Danks, LaRoche, and Alexei (if option is picked up) money is freed up next year, that is 38 million right there. Signing Heyward and moving Q for a stud 3B like Arenado, or Rendon would make this lineup and team defense so much better. A guy like Longoria and Seager in no way I see Q involved in any deal unless they send Cobb, Smyly, Archer back in the deal.

QUOTE (jdupps @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Like you I'm a huge fan of Nolan Arenado. But if I'm the Rockies the Sox will need to include Sale in any trade talks for Arenado. They probably still wouldn't trade him. Like Sale there are only a few players that young and elite at their position. Chris Sale >>>> Nolan Arenado. Sorry, that's not homerism, that's just fact. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) My plan would start with not giving away any draft picks period. I'm not signing a free agent with a QO. I'd rather sign Cespedes and a FA RHP. I think the 3B, C would have to be acquired via trade. I've mentioned before that I'd like to get Alex Guerrero somehow to play 3B. I wouldn't be dealing Quintana unless I got a Puiglike return. Roll with pitching and patch together enough offense. In my scenario, Quintana would net us Arenado who is a free agent in 2020. That is a Puig like return because he is a GG 3B, which are so rare to find. I trust the Sox with their pitching, that's why I could trade Q for this type of player.

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal

Rosenthal suggests that Samardzija will be in the range of a James Shields contract. 4 years 70-75 million -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) if there is a settlement, it opens up the door for the NHL to suspend Kane. Why's that? If that does happen, can Kane sue the NHL because he wasn't charged/arrested to a crime?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 12:21 PM) My Spanish is a bit rusty, but I think Noesi is coming back to the White Sox. https://instagram.com/p/7YIDvjQ9MNwIWgthgq7...7CCo-QQyepkTg0/ Wonder why exactly? Does anyone know what is up with Beck's injury? -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 11:49 AM) You'd have to empty the farm for any of those guys, except maybe Seager. Though not great themselves, we also have better in house options at 3rd (Saladino, Alexei, Sanchez) than what we have in the OF and particulary Catcher. On top of that, the free agent pool for 3Bs is terrible. It's pretty good for outdielders. For carchers there's not a lot either unless Wieters excites you. I think depending on the deal, I definitely would give up quite a bit for Arenado, Longoria, and Frazier. Seager would be cheaper because of his contract. However, all 4 of these guys would be difference makers defensively and offensively on this team. I also wonder if the Nationals will make Rendon available. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) I'd look to acquire some sort of 3B. I'd look into the possibility of getting Alex Guerrero from the Dodgers somehow. He has a contract clause though that would have to be taken care of. Cespedes makes sense because he wouldn't cost a draft pick. Ideally, they could upgrade catcher and keep Flowers as the backup. I also wouldn't be opposed to moving Danks and signing a guy like Doug Fister/Ian Kennedy for the rotation. The thing that I wouldn't do is trade Quintana. I'd roll with a rotation of Sale/Q/Rodon/Johnson/Free Agent/Fulmer at some point. Back end of the bullpen with Robertson/Jones/Montas. I'd be fine with Saladino at SS but not 3B. I agree that Saladino would be fine at SS rather than 3B but, I think Sox will pick up Alexei's option and put Saladino in the utility role where I think he could excel at. However, your Guerrero mention, no thanks on him. 5 walks in about 200 at bats. Has 11 HRs in 200 at bats, yet still has an OPS under 700 with a batting average of 228. Not to mention, going to be 29 starting next year. Give me a more proven guy that will cost a little bit more but has a track record of success.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) I'm fine with it as long as we would also somehow improve upon both catcher and 1 outfielder as well. I think 3B is a bigger need than any of those imo. Get one of Longoria, Frazier, Arenado, Seager, and that can off set the OF and C position.

2015 Recruiting thread

Xavier Simpson picking his school Wednesday at 130 CT. Probably between Illinois & Wisconsin. -
If he doesn't get traded, he'll be the Sox everyday 3B in a few years.

QUOTE (harkness @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 07:01 PM) He can get away with his fast ball up and away... but when he tries to throw it inside too much. They get him. Did you see how many strikeouts he had today with the inside fastball? /thread.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) back to back sub par starts for Sale. anyway i can blame this on him being pushed back a day? It's the 4th inning, if he goes 7 with giving up 2 runs, that's a good start. Relax.

Great catch by Melky. Sale with another clean inning.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 12:47 PM) Rodon was at Charlotte by this time last year. Their paths have already diverged. Could that be that even though Fulmer might of been behind in terms of development than Rodon, that they were thinking about bringing up Rodon last September? Just because it has differed, doesn't mean that he won't start in AAA next year, so he can come up around the same time as Rodon did this year.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 12:38 PM) Fulmer was thought to be maybe a tiny step behind where Rodon was. I could totally see him in the bigs next year and I could totally see him taking Danks's spot at some point during the year. I'd also agree with "not rushing him" but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him starting at AAA next year and moving up rapidly. Yeah, it sounds like Fulmer is working on the change up down in Winston Salem just how Rodon was, so, if he keeps improving that into next year, I could see him up around the same time as Rodon was this year. Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Johnson, Fulmer is really really good.

This was a fantastic read. The pitching in this system amazes me and part of that credit goes to Perdew. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 12:16 PM) This would make total sense. No downside, if he can't play, see you, but upside exists. Nix profiles as a prototypical NT and a change of scenery might do him wonders. This is all presuming he has a clean bill of health. Yeah I agree, Bears want to get young anyway and this helps. If he is healthy, (I believe it was his knee issue coming out of college), then Goldman and Nix would be a great rotation once Ratliff is gone.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 11:59 AM) @AaronWilson_NFL Louis Nix released by Texans, according to sources. Former third-round draft pick from Notre Dame Kind of a surprise. Bears should be all over him and see if he can take on NT spot since Ratliff is suspended and Goldman has a concussion.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 11:50 AM) I think he starts right where he is now. No way, I can see them with the same path as Rodon next year. Rodon started the year in AAA and bypassed AA.
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 06:56 AM) Hoping he starts out in AA next season as he will be 26 when the season starts I think he starts out in AA as well, does well and works his way up as a September call up next year if everything goes right.
