QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 08:27 PM) Fangraphs has him with the 29th highest WAR among SPs. Sox are 5th in MLB in WAR for entire pitching staff.

Pretty sure Leury just matched Bonifacio's hit total on the season

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 08:09 PM) Anyone see / post this yet? Yeah, posted couple pages back.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) Trade him, then see if he will sign this offseason for less. As for what I'd like from Toronto... (Fangraphs org rankings) C Pentecost (#5 prospect) SP Reid-Foley (#10 prospect) 3B Mitch Nay (#11 prospect) But absolutely try to get at least 1 of Pentecost or Reid-Foley, then fill in the rest. I'd love Reid-Foley. OF Anthony Alford is also blowing up for them.

Pirates close to acquiring a reliever right now according to KR.

That was a great play by Alexei

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:08 PM) That's why he was hitting .330 at the time of the trade. And hit 259 after that. In the minors in 2011 he hit 211, 2012 he hit 269 and in 2013 he hit 202.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) Let's not forget, the Red Sox offered Iglesias, the White Sox declined and swapped Avi for Iglesias. In hindsight, Iglesias is a lot more valuable than Avi so far. I disagree with that. Was there ever a report saying the Sox declined Iglesias? Because the Tigers desperately needed a SS because Peralta was suspended for PEDs. At the time, Garcia looked like a power hitting OFer with a gun for an arm, and Iglesias was an all glove, no bat kind of player.

I'd do Stroman for Shark straight up.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 04:36 PM) He has done a much better job drafting (albeit in much more favorable circumstances in both draft rules and slots), but he certainly struck out on the Eaton/Davidson/Garcia evaluations You can't really say he struck out with the Eaton and Garcia deals..... Eaton had a great year last year offensively and defensively. This year, just like the whole team, a down year. Book doesn't end on this deal. In this deal, we gave up Hector Santiago who was brutal last year but this year is pretty good. Works both ways. First off, the Garcia deal is the Peavy deal in which we were never going to resign. This deal will probably produce 3 MLB players with an outside chance at a 4th. The Davidson/Reed deal. Hasn't worked out for either team.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Who would be an ideal return from the BlueJays? What about Pentecost since they need a C? Hoffman worries me, since he's already had a TJ surgery. If Hoffman worries you, Pentecost should worry you as well because he hasn't played all year because of shoulder surgery.

Set of interesting tweets about Samardzija I posted in the Shark thread.

Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick 10m10 minutes ago The #Astros engaged in talks with #Whitesox about Jeff Samardzija before acquiring Kazmir from #Athletics, sources say. Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick 9m9 minutes ago One source said it came down to #Astros and #Athletics being a "better fit'' more than #Whitesox being indecisive to deal. Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick 9m9 minutes ago I'm also hearing #WhiteSox are active in trade talks even though they haven't thrown up the white flag publicly. Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick 8m8 minutes ago #WhiteSox think they can still get a significant haul for Samardzija at deadline. #BlueJays among several clubs interested.

Eaton 8 Saladino 5 Cabrera 7 Abreu DH LaRoche 3 Garcia 9 Ramirez 6 Soto 2 Sanchez 4 Who thinks Shark should make this start?

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) It should be lower than 31 as guys will give up first rounders to sign guys. You're right, I believe the Rockies got 26 for Michael Cuddyer this last draft.

Jon Morosi @jonmorosi 2m2 minutes ago #BlueJays and #Cubs have scouts in attendance at David Price's start in Detroit today. @FOXSports

Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 4m4 minutes ago Jays have lots of pieces that could be of interest: Jeff Hoffman, Daniel Norris, Dalton Pompey, Anthony Alford and more. Enough to go big. Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 2m2 minutes ago OAK price for Toronto for Kazmir was something built around one of Jays' best pitching prospects -- too steep for Jays in a buyers' market.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:32 PM) Yes, the A's can wait on people...but if Samardzija couldn't draw a package this good and the White Sox are looking for MLB-ready talent, the conclusion one might come to is that the MLB-ready talent will be even weaker. I completely agree unless you can get Norris or Pompey from Toronto (that are MLB ready). If Sox management aren't looking for prospects that need some time to develop, then I think Sox will take the comp pick. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) many thanks and i agree with you.... but the sox really doesn't have depth in the catching dept. i can see a player like him a the next batch of prospect in 3 +yrs. i think may really address a catcher in a starting side sometime this off season. I'd like to go after Wieters.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) that is the point. hamels, cueto, price and then the 2 nd level tiers of sp's now where you one add shark??? Exactly. Hamels, Cueto, Price, Ross, Kennedy, Cashner, Shields, I'm sure I'm forgetting others, but that is a hefty list of good/great pitchers. 1-5 since the break, that should tell Sox management to sell and trade Shark before any of these other guys get traded.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) but he doesn't have to be pegged as the next starting catcher but be added to the prospect pool that may be lacking in that position. I'm not disagreeing with you, but I think Sox management is because they have this "3 year window" set in their heads and Nottingham is at least a few years away. And probably wouldn't feel comfortable putting a rookie catcher in the thick of a playoff race when he is ready, if the Sox were in a playoff race down the road.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) "Samardzija couldn't even draw a package this good" doesn't make me feel particularly happy. Disagree with what you are implying. The A's are a rebuilding team that can wait for a guy like Nottingham to develop while Phegley is the stop gap. The Sox have stated this 3 year window, so if they are trading Jeff, they are probably looking at prospects in AA-AAA in the 22-25 age range that don't have that much more development time left, that they could just plug into their big league line up. It's just a matter if teams are willing to give that up.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) Although Kazmir has more of an injury history, he's outperforming Samardzija this year so far. He's paid a tiny bit more, would translate to about $1 million extra in payroll during the last 2 months for Kazmir over Samardzija, but you get a guy performing better who also happens to be a lefty which is always a nice bonus. Hard to believe Samardzija could gather a much bigger return. As someone else mentioned, this was an inner division trade. If Shark goes, I think it'll be to Toronto or to an NL team where he has shown he has had much more success. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) How many times was Nottingham mentioned on this site before today? Now all of a sudden, this A ball catcher is something the Sox really needed. It's beyond laughable. If the Sox actually made this trade today, and a couple of days later, another rental was traded for a better known prospect, the complaining would have no end. I am sorry, I am not losing my mind because the Sox didn't acquire some A ball catcher that wasn't even a top 20 Astros prospect before this season began. Maybe I should be. But why don't we wait to see what was acquired and how they turn out before deciding the White Sox blew it? And how do we even know this package was available for Samardjiza? I know that when I have created trade packages for Shark, Nottingham was a name I've had my eye on.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:17 PM) I'm almost certain that is the reason. I agree with this. I have a feeling Sox wanted Santana. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:17 PM) you are correct, for me i was talking about the rtn for oak. some may not see them as class A high elite prospects...... but they are everyday players. name me a team that has nothing buy elite players at all positions.... Nottingham can become elite because he plays a position that is so hard to play.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) The only problem is how many players actually reach the ceilings that were given to them in A ball? You're exactly right. No rebuttal here, just stating a tweet that if they do reach their ceilings. I think Nottingham can, less skeptical about the pitcher.
