  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 12:08 PM) Jesus he's a taken a big leap from last year. He's a pretty slight lefty that most scouts assume is destined for the pen. Not sure I would want to use an early pick on that profile alone but I am sure some team thinks they can keep him a starter. But yeah he used to play for a neighboring town and he was a much smaller kid when we were younger. He saw a growth spurt in high school and all of a sudden he was a top player in the area. Yeah I saw a video of him, he kind of pitches like Rodon as he doesn't finish all the way. But I am excited to see that Illinois team this year. Should be pretty good.
  2. Now that all the major players have signed. I think it's now to discuss MLB Playoff Predicitons. AL East 1. Baltimore Orioles 2. Boston Red Sox (Wild Card) 3. Toronto Blue Jays 4. Hope to see the Sox make it in the playoffs. Your thoughts and predictions?
  3. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 10:37 AM) So the Chicago radio scene has the cub coming in second in the James Shields sweepstakes and the cubs getting Hammels for a couple of good not top 100 prospects. Yeah I saw that on the Kap and Haugh show yesterday. Kap thinks the Cubs will trade Castillo, Wood and a couple prospects not named Baez, Almora, Edwards (obviously not Russell or Bryant) for Hamels. Lol what a joke.
  4. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 10:02 PM) Imagine being able to sign a 29 year old free agent 3B with a career 130 wRC+ and 14.9 UZR/150 to a 9 year, $129.5M deal tomorrow. What do you suppose $19.5M owed 8 years from now is worth in present day value? QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 10:37 AM) Have you looked at his production lately? He's had one full season where he was under a 5.5 fWAR player and that was last year. It was by far his worst season and he was still a 3.4 fWAR player. Pablo Sandoval was also a 3.4 fWAR player last year that has dealt with injury and weight concerns his entire career and he signed a 5 year, $90 million contract. Longoria's contract is just $121.5 million guaranteed over the next 8 years. He is still well worth his contract and would get more on the open market. Pretty much proving my point, that yes, I would overpay for Evan Longoria. He would bring so much to the line up and defensively. He would give even more protection to Abreu with Melky and LaRoche. Not saying it will happen, but if the Rays are out of it again by July, I can see him becoming available and the Rays starting young all over again.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 10:35 AM) Missing 2nd and 3rd round picks will make it really hard to go over slot with their top pick. I agree, that's why I think going college arm or bat would be the best choice. Who are your favorites so far?
  6. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) Guys I like for the Sox in the first round: Michael Muetella, who I think will not be drafted in the top 5 of the draft. Kyle Cody, the dude throws really, really hard and he has an ideal frame at 6'7 240lbs. Ashe Russell, a high school Impact arm, the guy hits 95 consistently and has a nasty slider. It would smart to go under slot and over spend in the later rounds. I'm torn on Ashe Russell, although he is from the Indiana, but from Indianpolis. For a HS kid, I think you would have to go at least slot or slightly above slot to get him in. I'm all for a college arm or bat and save some money while picking up some HS talent in rounds 4-7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 11:02 PM) For those high on Bickford...I've heard not so nice things about his makeup and how he handled himself during his year at Fullerton. Stuff is obviously very plus though. Kids could always mature though. It'll be interesting to see how he does in CC.
  7. Padres are going to be fun to watch next season.
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 07:32 AM) The White Sox forfeited their 2nd and 3rd round selections with the David Robertson and Melky Cabrera signings. Hypothetically, if the Sox had $3.4 million for their 1st round pick, $1.8 million for their 2nd round pick and $1 million for their 3rd round pick, they also lose the ability to spend that bonus $ allotted to the slots that were given up. That's why the pool is so low. Thank you.
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 10:05 PM) I am rooting for Tyler Jay from U of I. Probably more of 4th-5th rounder but throws mid 90's with his left hand. He's a cousin of a friend plus I beat him a couple times growing up . That's awesome. You think Jay lasts until then? He's ranked 44th overall on mlb.com
  10. Saw the nudies from Rollins and the next girl hahaha.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 08:31 PM) So Seth Rollins twitter account posted nude pics of a nxt diva. Then his (ex?)fiance posted nude pics of him. Hope that doesn't kill his career/momentum... Has it been deleted?
  12. Who do they Sox have one of the lowest INT payrolls in the league? And how do the Yankees have over 8 mil to spend?
  13. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 06:58 PM) I just heard on MLB Network that the Sox could possibly be interested in Francisco "K Rod" Rodriguez. Would you guys be ok with him on a 2 year/$20 million deal? That gives Robertson an elite set-up guy ahead of him, and Petricka/Putnam/Duke would just have the cover the 7th inning. What do you guys think? I would love if the Sox got K-Rod. 7th-8th-9th inning of Duke, K-Rod, and Robertson would be lethal. That moves Jennings , Putnam, and Petricka into lesser roles. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 07:13 PM) Rodriguez would definitely be a luxury, but I think he'd boost that bullpen a ton. A few under the radar players that I'd like to see the Sox get are Chris Young (the pitcher), and Brandon Beachy. Both would probably be cheap, but they'd be nice to have just for rotation depth. I want Brandon Beachy.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 06:51 PM) Hopefully he follows the Yordano Ventura trendline...he didn't come out of nowhere, but it sort of felt like it. Both with explosive stuff and their array of doubters. Where was Ventura the last two years on the Top 100 lists? I don't know if he was. But I hope Montas can have similar success to what Ventura has had.
  15. Doing a little research on potential draft picks. I've always been a Carson Fulmer fan, but his size does scare me a little bit. Phil Bickford is another guy that's growing on me that's now at community college. He's 0-1 3.48 ERA, 10.2 IP, 2 BBs, and 18 Ks so far this season. As far as hitters, I don't know which I would prefer, a college bat, or HS bat. If it's a college bat, Swanson and Happ top that list. Although, it sounds like Happ would move to the OF and that his best position could be left field. Swanson seams destined for 2B. HS bats, I like Daz Cameron who already has a pretty good frame that will only grow into. Another HS bat I like is Nick Plummer. He might have the most raw power and could be a great average hitter. Outside the 1st round, there is one player I hope for. I'm a huge Illinois fan, so I would love to see the Sox nab LHP Kevin Duchene. The kid has dominated his first 2 seasons although he does not strike out a ton of guys. Decent frame at 6'2 210.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 05:06 PM) Hard to say exactly. At this point, that's a definite no, but if Montas shows a more consistent slider and better and more consistent changeup, then he's probably approaching top 30-50 prospect status. They might consider it at that point instead of outright dismissing it. I agree, if Montas can prove it at the AA level and dominate as a starter, I think he would soar through the rankings and become a very valuable trade piece when our rotation could be locked up for a long time (assuming Samardzija resigns)
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) Now that the Padres have re-worked their entire roster, I was looking at it from a White Sox perspective. San Diego has acquired Wil Myers, Justin Upton, and Matt Kemp to revamp their starting OF. They have 5 more OF's on their roster as well. Do any of these players interest anyone as the final piece on the 2015 White Sox roster? Alex Dickerson LH Will Venable LH Cameron Maybin RH Rymer Liriano RH Carlos Quentin RH In order I would be interested in Venable, Liriano, Maybin. Venable at this point in his career is probably a 4th OFer who can hit a little bit and plays pretty good defense. Liriano is young and was once a top 100 prospect I believe. Maybe stash him in AAA, because I think there could be more than a 4th OFer in his future. Maybin steals bases, and plays pretty good defense. He's pretty expensive and can't stay healthy though.
  18. I was just thinking on my home from class today. Say the Sox are in contention and Longoria becomes available. What do you think it would take to get him without giving up Rodon? I think I would give up Davidson, Montas, Anderson and Danish for him. Would that be enough? Once again, I'm just thinking out loud here.
  19. Not Carlos Rodon but positives on Spencer Adams Dan Hayes @CSNHayes · 2h 2 hours ago Don't overlook #WhiteSox prospect Spencer Adams. Athletic RHP potentially has three plus-pitches says @jimcallisMLB. http://bit.ly/192i7y1
  20. Didn't know that about Montas' knees. That's encouraging.
  21. That list is beyond awful. Having Bryant at 5 is criminal. Anderson above Rodon is just not true. And Bundy and Syndgaard above Urias is terrible. That list is poorly thought of.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 8, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) He's probably the third best striker in the BPL right now (after Aguero and Costa). Only 21 years old and just signed a 5 1/2 year extension. He's unreal.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 8, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) and i am extremely glad that he can, that is why i asked originally, if this performance will start to put him on anyone radar. i know i will start watching out for him. I doubt it. Unless he magically figures it out this season. He's going to be 26 this upcoming season and has yet to have success above A+.
  24. Dennis Lin ‏@dennistlin 32m32 minutes ago Sounds like James Shields' decision could now come either today or Mon. Believe he was told early Saturday that Padres had made final offer.
  25. I kind of hope the Sox are in on Shields. I really wanted him at the beginning of the season, and adding Shields will make this the best rotation in the AL. 3 years/65 million would be great.
