QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) I want to see more of Peter, and there's a chance, but a non-top 30 ranking is appropriate for him. Many, many guys hit the dickens out of the ball at rookie ball only to fall by the wayside. I look at the numbers he put up at Winston-Salem moreso than I do the numbers he put up at Great Falls. Those were not as good: .236/.277/.303, 4.3% BB%, 13.8% K%, 1 SB. He hasn't been written off and he definitely received votes, but we need to see more of him. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) Fry was a T100 draft prospect taken a little behind that status, and he's got the right frame and stuff for a starter. I had him slightly lower than others I think, but teens seems about right for him. Peter killed PIO pitching and was double-promoted, but that was more a function of the lack of talent at Kanny at that time than anything else (so no one to logically promoted one level). A+ looked like more of a challenge for him. Tools-wise he just isn't real exciting. That said, he did show very good contact and the hit tool was more advanced than people thought, plus he's got a cannon arm. He's intriguing, but pretty interchangeable value-wise with the few guys above and below him, to me. I think 31 (which is what he was essentially) is about right. Thank you for the explanation. Makes sense. I think it is recognizable that this farm is deeper than most think. But the end of our list are really young but have the potential to grow further up in the prospect rankings.
-
One thing, why the Fry high ranking? I like him, but not that high because I need to see more of him in the minors. Also, I think it's a little criminal that Peter isn't ranked in the top 30. He might not of been highly regarded, but he proved his worth in half a season to deserve a ranking between at least 20-30.

Sox sign Gordon Beckham, designate Viciedo for Assignment

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) I like Tank more than most and for the reasons you give, but unless someone goes down, there are limited ABs. I can't see Tank flourishing in that situation. It wouldn't surprise me if he went somewhere and became a decent bat. I like Tank more than most as well because I can see the potential there. Like you said before Dick, it would not surprise me if he went to another team and ended up having a decent career. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) In totality, a bench of Beckham, Bonifacio, Soto, and Shuck doesn't look too bad. That's a good VETERAN bench. Veteran being key there, because I think they know their roles by this time in their career, all have seen success and failure as a starter, and now want to win. That's my opinion. -

GGajewski18 replied to flavum's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like the move given he stays on the bench, maybe plays against LHP from time to time, and maybe a defensive replacement for Micah in late innings. I am actually pretty upset about the DFA of Viciedo. My reasoning, he is only 25 who can still hit the ball out of the ballpark. Yes, he's a bad OFer, he costs 4.4 million, but with all of that he still has tons of power that you cannot teach or get easily, I would of taken the financial hit that he brings and designate Wilkins who is older and hasn't shown anything in the MLB. I would of kept Viciedo as the 4th OFer. -

You guys think he would take a minor league deal with an invite to ST? Because if he signs a ML deal, who gets bumped off 40 man? Leury? He might not be good right now but he's still only 23 and I would not give up on him yet because I think he would definitely get claimed. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) It seems like a snippet to me, but please feel free to delete this post if you think it's too much: Very encouraging to see. I think this year can be the year where some of our younger players (Martinez, Guerrero, Rondon, Wendelken,) will take a leap and be much better than average towards the end of our farm.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) Where do you see Jones at? At first I was thinking he'd be nice on the inside (he could be) but looking back at scouting reports there was talk of his as 3-4 OLB. Briggs has said with the new staff he'd like to return, what's everyones thoughts on that. I think he'd fit as an ILB, but only at the right price. Jones probably will go to strong side line backer and rush the passer. -

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 01:56 PM) Its just simply who he is. In other news Bears have named Clint Hurt the OLB coach. Pretty much confirms they'll run a 3-4 IMO. Fox didn't have one in Denver running the 4-3. Christian Jones can absolutely thrive with this. I think putting Bostic in the middle of a 3-4 will help his development as well. -
Hahn stated at SoxFest that he is looking ideally for some bullpen depth and middle infield depth that can hit LHP. Some bullpen names that could be good fits for the Sox are Mike Adams and Chad Billingsley. Mike Adams fits what Hahn likes with the bullpen. Ground ball pitcher with high strike out rates. He has been injured the last couple years, but when healthy, he still has shown to be effective. Chad Billingsley I think can be had on a minor league contract because he hasn't been healthy much of his career. But I think if he moves to the bullpen, cut down on innings, he can be a low risk, high reward type guy. Infield depth: Ricky Weeks. He only plays 2B but still well enough last year before Gennett took over his job. Depending on Sanchez or Micah winning the 2B job, I think he is less likely than the next name I'm about to give because Weeks is limited in the infield. Everth Cabrera. Suspended last year because of steroids and I believe he got a DUI charge earlier this off season but he can play an effective SS and steal bases. And still better than Leury Garcia. If any other names you guys can come up with please provide them. What you guys think of these names?

Marshawn Lynch is so annoying with the media. It's not funny anymore, just immature and unprofessional. Today at media day, he answered almost every question with "i'm just here so I won't get fined" -
FutureSox Top Prospects, Preseason 2015
GGajewski18 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My thoughts on the list: I LOVE that Andre Wheeler is getting some love. He was dominant in Kannapolis last year, but I don't know why he wasn't getting promoted. With him entering the season at 23, and hopefully in Winston Salem, if he does well, I want him flying through the system if he performs. Real high on Wheeler. Another guy I'm high on is Luis Martinez, love that you guys have him ranked in the top 25, although 19, him starting at Kanny would be best for his development. Also very high on Andrew Mitchell, this kid has late inning/closer potential with 2 plus pitches already. Just needs to figure out his command. Players that I have different opinions about: I think you guys bought into the media attention David Trexler got. Yes his numbers were good, but that was at Rookie Ball when he was 23 years old. Another guy similar to him but left handed, so could be more valuable is Ben Brewster, he flew through the system and ended up in WS before injury ended his season. He was doing very well too. So I wonder if he got some consideration from you guys. If Peter or Fry isn't in the top 30, I think that's a mistake. Because I would definitely put them ahead of Recchia, Alvarez, and Wilkins on the list. Overall, I don't have a problem with this list and think the depth is getting stronger as the years go on within the system. I can't wait for the season to come and both with the big club and to see how our prospects perform! Thoughts on my thoughts? lol -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) Powell's POV: An embarrassing night for Vince McMahon. It's bad enough that he was so stubborn about Batista winning at this time last year, but now he's done it two years in a row. This is damaging to Reigns, The Rock, and WWE overall. Keep in mind that this is a man who claims to listen to the fans. Damn near everyone assumed the crowd would turn on Reigns if they went with him winning the match, yet Vince stuck with it rather than go with Daniel Bryan. Sure, he can turn Reigns heel if things get bad, but that doesn't justify this move. The Rumble match was more deflated than a New England Patriots football (finally got to work that one in) once Bryan was eliminated. It wasn't just the Bryan elimination, though, the booking of the match was really bad and some of those eliminations were just asinine and lazy. PWnet review I pretty much agree with this. -

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 10:19 PM) Pretty much everyone expected Reigns to win anyway so I don't quite see why the outrage. It was awful yes, but not sure why we're all surprised by the outcome. I agree, but as I mentioned before, eliminating Bryan so early, and Dolph lasting all of 2 minutes was awful. Not to mention Titus O'Neil was #26 too. Having Kane and Big Show be 2 out of the last 3 was also bad. At least make it interesting. Everyone knew they weren't going to win it. -

That was incredibly bad paper view outside of the Championship match. How can they eliminate Bryan so early? Ziggler lasted what, 2 minutes? Rusev just chilling on the ground for 15 minutes. Then, the last 3 were Reigns, Big Show, and Kane? Come on. Pitiful. One positive from the Rumble. Love Bubba Ray, it was amazing he pulled off the 3D. Hope he sticks. Awful, awful rumble -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) Prediction time who is you RR winner guys? I predict Reigns throws Bryan out to win RR and fans will have a very mixed reaction. There are some reports that a city hosting RAW at a later date has begin marketing Cena as the new champ but that could be wrong. As far as the rumble, I would love to see Bryan or Ambrose win it. Also, there are rumors that the Rock will make an appearance tonight. -
Roch Kubatko @masnRoch · 2h 2 hours ago Told latest report has Jays ending negotiations for Duquette, an Os official said "That's what, the 4th time they've said that?" If things do stall, do you guys think that KW becomes an option again? The O's were asking for Jeff Hoffman, Max Pentecost, and Mitch Nay for Duquette. I don't think KW would require that compensation but what about something like Aaron Sanchez and D.J Davis?
