QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:59 AM) I still think there's an outside chance Rick Hahn looks at his roster and thinks he has a potentially competitive team in 2015 with a reasonable amount of spending and an absolutely competitive team by 2016 with maybe even a small amount of spending. If that is the case, moving Alexei Ramirez would set that back, meaning that there would need to be a return good enough that by 2016 it would offset the loss of the player and shifting to a kid there. That's my standard. If we don't get that, I'm not interested. A "b" prospect better be a pretty darn sure fire thing to motivate me. Exactly what I think. Get another starter, and a power hitting outfielder and hopefully Rodon is set to be in the rotation by then and we can have something special.

Matt Davidson- how he has overcome his struggles from the beginning of the season and through the thumb injury. JB Wendelken- hows the adjustment coming to a new organization and how he has adjusted through the year.

As expected Alexei has the highest value and Beckham has little value at all.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) Could be, though I'm not entirely convinced he's ready. It would also alleviate some pressure in Kanny on their infield, as someone like Stringer could come up to W-S in a corresponding move. Then one of the rookie infielders, maybe Jake Peter, could head to Kanny. I agree. Those would be the promotions I would make.

Even if Hanley is out, they still can extend him, play Alexei at SS and Dee Gordon at 2B. I'd want Pederson, Lee and Reed for Alexei

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 08:52 AM) Floethe hadn't pitched in a long time, and was released a week or two ago. As for SS at B-Ham, they only have four infielders on their roster now - Ravelo (who plays only 1B), Wagner, Farrell and Curley. Curley can play a competent SS, and Wagner is a 3B, so that means Farrell at 2B. Marrero can play 1B too but is listed as an OF. They're a little thin on skill INF's right now (probably why Ravelo played 3B for a game the other night). Yeah I saw that, I think they still need another infielder up there, and in my opinion, DeMichele has earned a promotion.

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 07:01 AM) If Hanley wrist is broken, dodgers might then be interested in Alexi. Prospects galore in that system Pederson or Urias would have to be included in any deal.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 08:41 AM) Or DL'd, as the Sox are wont to do. Also should note, didn't see this earlier, the Sox released SS Jaime Pedroza. Who's playing SS? Wagner? I really think they need to call up Demichele. Sox also released Jake Floethe (spelling?) from Winston Salem.

27 years old. Finally has earned his way up to the show. Good for him. He was the only one in the Charlotte bullpen having a decent year. 2.81 era on the season with 53 Ks in 48 innings.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) Rienzo went 5 shutout tonight, so he's not available for a few days. They would need to clear a spot on the 40-man to add Taylor Thompson. Veal struck out the side tonight too--and he's a lefty. But also not on the 40-man. Just looked--Veal has been terrible besides tonight. I'd bet Rienzo is coming back, and they just want to get Sanchez back there playing. Rienzo cannot be called back up yet, he has to wait 10 days to be called back up unless there is an injury. So it is unlikely Rienzo. -

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 04:32 PM) I was half joking (or half serious), but I could actually see them trading Cargo. He's coming up on 30, is steeply overpaid, and can't stay healthy. I'm too lazy to look up the stats, but his hitting record away from Coors isn't fantastic. Then again, they might keep all three (Blackmon, Cargo, Dickerson); can't imagine they'd resign Cuddyer. They could definitely trade CarGo I believe. And I forgot who said it, but the team i guess did come out and say they do want to resign Cuddyer.

I'd take him. Could never have enough speed on the team with line drive power. Is he better than Viciedo in the OF so we can move Viciedo to DH?

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) He hasn't thrown a pitch yet, and I'm so glad the Sox got Rodon. Same, the guy I wanted all along.

Official Recruiting Thread II
GGajewski18 replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Bragg has already mentioned Illinois, Kansas, and Kentucky will be 3 of his 5 official visits. I think its really between these 3 as Ohio State has fallen back. But Kentucky has been hot on some others like Doral Moore. Evans and Thomas have said that Illinois will be getting official visits as well. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) Basketball is a sport that depends far more upon athleticism. Football is similar for the "skill" positions, but there is more technique involved in those to some extent. Baseball, on the other hand, involves less athleticism and much more mechanics and hand eye coordination and practice. Those great athletes with well-refined skills will still be the best players, but I can't name you another sport in which Billy Butler would be even remotely considered a good player. But you also put basketball players or football players in the batters box or in the infield, fielding a grounball, they would look incompetent.
