QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 6, 2014 -> 11:12 PM) Should have watched sox instead of hawks. Reading game thread I really want to see the pitch tracker. If zone was that bad it explains the swings at the sliders. The zone really was that bad. Good win! Now lets get 2 more and be 2 games above 500!!

That's not even close to a strike. The strike zone this series has been atrocious

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 6, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) Sure thing. Engel has been tearing it up there after a slow start. Anything from Cleluis Rondon is exciting. Trey Michalczewski is playing like an on base monster. 127 PAs, 13.4% BB% and he's gotten HBP for four times. He was at 10.4% BB% last year in 222 PAs. Really advanced approach from a kid who just turned 19. Between Trey, Engel, and Rondon I really like what I see so far this season. Dykstra and Danish have been impressive as well.

If you would of told me that Kanny had a better record than our other 3 teams, I would of called you crazy. Big start for Beck and Hanson today.
-
No way they can overturn this. I think he's out anyway.

Wendelken and Rondon all playing well so far in the first month + to go along with Montas' encouraging start.

Early vote for Rookie of the Year and AL MVP in my opinion.... -
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 2, 2014 -> 11:40 AM) Just curious, but at what point do you just release Jared Mitchell and move on? Trayce Thompson will probably replace him next year.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 06:52 PM) 2015 $46M 2016 $41M 2017 $30M 2018 $22M 2019 $14M A Scherzer, Shields, or Lester makes a lot of sense if the offense proves to be the best in the division. 2 big time free agents. Like Shields and a lefty bat, and this team is in contention for years.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 02:28 PM) Jim Callis @jimcallisMLB 10m As of now, Rodon. @DSZero: If Rodon and Hoffman are both there at #3, who do @WhiteSox take? #DraftPipeline Interesting Lefty dominated rotation. I wouldn't mind.
-
Jonathan Mayo @JonathanMayoB3 5m Hoffman could be there. One of the HS guys (Aiken/Kolek) @brianm731: Who fits best into #whitesox rotation? Gut feeling at 3? I wouldn't be mad.

Will Sox be buyers, not sellers, at the trade deadline?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) Like I said, outside of Alexei, those guys are cheap fillins who teams can use to cover up holes that appear on their roster during the year. I'm not expecting a lot back for them, but what I do think we could get back is AAA-level relievers who could really do a lot to strengthen our bullpen depth. I wonder if like a Scott Feldman-Pedro Strop deal would be in comparison to a guy like Dunn. -
I think this would be a great get. Doesn't cost a 40 man sport and more depth to the system.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 10:21 AM) part of the plan was hoping to deal some of the older players for younger talent and then spend money if/when they can actually contend. Dunn? Alexei? Downs? Lindstrom all fit under that category? What would they want to spend that money on? -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) I'd be shocked if we werent sellers at the deadline. Adam Dunn could net us some serious value for the future alone. Are you hearing this or just pure speculation? Would Alexei be in the same boat then considering the scarcity of good SS's? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) I still think it's going to be difficult for the White Sox to put together a package for a high-demand player like Grandal because they don't have a lot of high-ceiling prospects at their higher levels right now. Even if their pitchers at AA turn things around in a few weeks that's still true. The guys who really might draw major interest as a centerpiece are guys like Danish, Tim Anderson, and they're at lower levels where they're not going to have the same value they would once they reach AA. Most teams that are on the rebuilding side like the Astros and the Padres aren't going to be after "multiple average middle infield prospects", they're going to be pushing for a top flight guy in return to send cheap, high-demand talent out. And I still am hesitant to say what exactly our needs will be in the offseason. Last week it looked like we were starved for pitching, but things are really changing quickly in terms of needs. If Rienzo can cover a back of the rotation slot and somehow Johnson finds whatever it was he's lost, then the rotation goes right back to looking full. That is true, but if Hahn can manage to get Shields and Davis, then we wouldn't technically need Johnson. Rienzo, Carroll, Surkamp can all fill that #5 void. I think Erik Johnson, Carlos Sanchez, Trayce Thompson can net Grandal. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 08:58 AM) People have said Beckham looks better the past few days, we'll see if it's believable. The Sox actually have a whole lot of potentially moveable guys. Alexei is at the top of the list but frankly should command a king's ransom - affordable, solid defense, veteran shortstops don't grow on trees. Outside of that, there's a number of guys who have potential replacements or are blocked in the system. They're not going to bring studs back on their own, but if we're smart, we might be able to pile up 2-3 young, AAA-level relievers or back of the rotation starting pitchers and really remake the bullpen while still clearing guys out. De Aza Flowers Gillaspie Beckham Dunn All of those guys could be moved during the season to clear space. We also have something of a minor league logjam forming in the middle infield, Semien, Sanchez, Leury, and Micah Johnson, with only 2b and SS between the two. If Sanchez keeps the hot streak he's currently on going, he could readily have solid numbers by the middle part of the season and someone could legitimately look at him as a solid option to fill an infield hole. I definitely agree with this, even though it's obvious. I still would love to sign James Shields in the off season, and use these glut of infield prospects to acquire a catcher like Grandal. Reminder, with all the contracts expiring, I believe Sox will only be around 48 million in payroll next season. If Hahn and the Sox are serious about competing next year and coming off a successful year this year, then I would love to sign Shields and Chris Davis. Protection for Abreu and our line up literally couldn't be stopped. CF Eaton 2B Semien 1B/DH Abreu 1B/DH Davis RF Garcia LF Viciedo C Grandal SS Ramirez 3B Davidson Rotation Sale Shields Quintana Danks Johnson/Rienzo/Carroll Go big or go home. -
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 07:32 AM) 14-13 after no days off playing BOS, TEX, DET, TB. I'll take it This April schedule bass been brutal too. Managing to be around 500 considering last year and losing 3/5 of the rotation to DL or not playing well has been remarkable. Especially against these teams.

QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 05:59 AM) do the sox have room on the 40 squad ??? how is it done, we had him to the protected list. do we need to keep him up on the major league ??? He got outright released I believe. I'd like the Sox sign him to a minor league deal after he's healthy and send him to AAA.
-
Erik Johnson needs to take some notes from Rienzo to show a little fire on the mound. I like it. Pitched real well. Offense is insane in the month of April.

Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 35m Source says #Yankees surprising release of prospect Nik Turley likely the result of a roster crunch. Turley not seriously injured. Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 35m Nik Turley, now a free agent, is a "couple of weeks away" from full health. Expect him to get picked up. Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 33m Turley, a LHP, was #Yankees 14th best prospect after 2012 season. Was 11-8 with a 3.88 ERA in 27 starts at AA Trenton last year. Worth picking up?

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 08:54 PM) Hawk --stfu about Beckham. Beckham is barreling up the ball pretty well, just right at people.

Hope Rienzo should be able to get through the 6th

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 07:53 PM) He's done it all season. Not sure if he did that in the minors or not. Has he? I must have not noticed until the last week or so. I think he needs to get rid of that...

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 07:50 PM) Trayce went yard. He needed that.
